Creating excitement and interest

• Relevance of the topic is crucial to grab the attention of the students

• This works as a motivating factor and thereby ensures that the student is completely Involved

• Relevance can be established either by discussing its application in business scenario or by linking it to current events involved in the lecture

• operant conditioning concept can be used to generate interest

Creating excitement and interest

• Case study approach - vicarious learning Since a case study method is like story telling it

plays an important role in increasing their participation

Creating excitement and interest

Games - positive reinforcement • Conducting a small game or activity would

help to avoid monotony during the lecture• Small goodies or chocolates can be offered as

gifts for these activities • Thus the concept of positive reinforcement

can be used to involve the students and avoid boredom.

Creating excitement and interest

Popular business leaders – role model• The interest and excitement of the students

can be built by inviting popular business leaders a for guest lectures

• The people who have made it big in business would certainly capture the attention of the students

Instilling discipline and decorum in the auditorium

Imposing Fine – Punishment• A complaint can be filed and fine could be

imposed on students who weren’t disciplined during the lecture

• This will ensure disciplined behavior in the subsequent lectures.

• sets an example to other students

Monitoring - Negative reinforcement• Some students show undesired behavior

during the lecture as they feel there is no one to monitor them

• can be avoided by monitoring through set of students or by monitoring with the help of cameras

Instilling discipline and decorum in the auditorium

• Restrict students from attending further lectures (negative reinforcement)

The students who spoil the decorum can be punished by denying permission to attend further guest lectures

• Conveying the importance of maintaining good behavior (Self-Control)

The importance of maintaining the decorum and discipline can be explained to the students which provide an impetus for Self-Control

Role Modeling - Vicarious Learning• The members of beyond management who

organize the lecture could be the role models in maintaining discipline and decorum

• when one person learns how to behave by watching another person, students can learn being disciplined through the role models.

Improve listening skills & understanding

Reduce Distractions - Extinction The seating arrangements can be done in a way

that seniors and juniors are arranged alternatively so as to avoid disturbances

Prevent students from carrying things like mobile phones, magazines, newspapers, books which could possibly distract the students from listening

Creating interest:An interest check can be done among the

students to select the topics for the guest lecture series (self-control )

Improve listening by giving the profile of the speaker, his achievements, the importance of the content and its future benefits (operant conditioning )

Conduct workshops – L• The guest lectures series should consist of

more workshops which could involve the students

• It may induce the listeners to listen more effectively as there is a task to complete after the listening is done

Use audio visual media

Learning through observation

It grabs the attention of the learner

Higher chances of retention and reproduction of lessons

Page 16: learning intervention techniques

Learning by association

Chunking &picture visualization

Effective for learning complex concepts

Used in study strategy

Character Building

An influencing speaker• people get influenced by some great

personalities and follow their way of doing things which ultimately changes their own character

• The student thinks whatever the speaker says is right and gets influenced by it.

Character Building

social learning theory • By knowing the purpose of learning, the listener

tends to pay attention, remember the lecture given by the speaker and then follow those words of the speaker.

• A lot of ideas may be generated by the speaker. It’s important that students grab those ideas. How does one know if the student has learnt something from the speech or has undergone some transformation?

Enable Longer Retention of Key Learning

Page 20: learning intervention techniques

Brief summary of

the key points

•Students to submit a summary of the key points from the lecture•Facilitates repetition & retention

Appreciation

•Reward the best summary submitted•Can be published in magazines of respective specializations or blogs.

Examples from daily

lives

•Use examples and scenarios which students can relate to their daily lives•This would enable learning through classical conditioning.

Page 21: learning intervention techniques

Use effective

visual aids

•Use PPTs which are less verbose & attractive•Supplement it with audio & video clips

Debate or Discussion

•Conduct a debate or discussion related to the topic in class after 2-3 weeks•Helps in refreshing the memory & testing the effectiveness of the lecture
