What do we offer? A learning programme to support the KS2 Geography and History National Curriculum and the National Exemplar Framework for Religious Education.  

Guided visitsAt Ynyslas: Biodiversity, coastal change and management of sand dunes & saltmarshes At Cors Fochno:Peat bog biodiversity and conservation.

Exploring habitats (wetland and grassland)Land managementHas photographs, role play, diamond ranking activity and school visit opportunities.

Food and farming in the Biosphere: can we feed ourselves? Mapping local food sources, studying land use, collecting oral histories and recipes, learning from the past and visioning the future.

Where are you on the aerial jig-saw? Where’s your special place? Why is it special?Link to road maps/globe.Biodiversity on site, e.g. birds, invertebrates, plants.

Exploring a ‘woodland’ over a 6 week programme. Focus on Past>Present>Futures.OrA programme of 2 days taster sessions which schools could ‘buy’.A package of support materials. 

Exploring sustainable futures, careers and job opportunities within the Biosphere and beyond.

How is it linked to the Dyfi Biosphere?

Geography: What kind of place is...?How can I prove that I live in a Biosphere?History: How have people affected this area? How sustainable was our community in the past?RE: Are you a transformer or a conservationist? (focus on Trees)

The special site values underpin the Dyfi BR designation. Priority BR concerns of biodiversity conservation & climate change issues well very wellillustrated

BiodiversityChanging land useDemolished bank to deliberately flood the land, cut trees: should we have done it? Drowned cow v. lapwingEmotional response.

We will treat the Dyfi Valley as a geographical unit looking at how land use changes down the length of the river, and from lowland to mountain.

Why has this place been designated a Biosphere? Link to the Year of Biodiversity 2010.

It immerses groups in decision making about the management of a woodland which demonstrates the challenges of making sustainable development useful for all.

KS2KS3 ‘pilot’ working with Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn – science based project

KS2 planned with Ysg Gyn Mach and Llwyn-yr-Eos, Aber. KS3/4/WBac for Penglais and Bro Ddyfi I hope.  Also breakfast clubs and community groups via ContinYou.
