BandatSt.PatrickHighSchoolBandatSt.Pat’sfeaturesthreeensemblesthatparticipateinmanyvibrantandexcitingperformancesaroundthecityofYellowknife.There’snodoubtthatthetalentofourmusicstudentsenablesustobeinhighdemand!
ThePrideoftheIrishConcertBandisagradeninethroughtwelvewindensemblethatspecializesinpiecesthatrequirelargerscaleinstrumentationinordertoaccuratelyproducemusicinawidevarietyofstyles,whichincludeclassicrock,blues,folkandclassical.Thestudentsinthisgrouptaketheirperformancesveryseriously,butalsohavesomeseriousfun!
TheKillarneyJazzBandisa16‐piecegradeninethroughtwelveensemblethatperformspiecesscoredforsmallermore“pop”oriented
settings.Asaresultoftheband’smusicalstyle,theyhavebeeninhighdemandthroughoutthecity.Instrumentationincludesarhythmsection(drums,bass,piano,guitar),trombones,trumpetsandsaxophones.
TheFourLeafCloverJazzComboisafivetoeightpiecegroupthatperformsjazzstandardsandpoptunes.Sinceitsinception,thisgrouphasbeenthebusiestofthethree.Thisislargelyduetoitssmallersize,whichenablesittoworkinmoreintimateenvironments.Asaresult,thisgrouphasperformedatLeFrolic,TheExplorerHotel,SombaK’ePark,andhasbeenafeatureperformerforthePeterGsozkiConcert,FolkontheRocksandtheNWTLegislature,tonameafew.
BandatWeledehandEcoleSt.JosephSchoolsStudentsatbothWeledehandSt.Joe’sareintroducedtoBandinGrade6,whereeverystudenthastheopportunitytolearnaninstrumenttraditionallyfoundintheconcertband.StudentsinGrades7and8havetheoptionofparticipatingintheBandProgramaspartoftheirFineArtsExploratory.ThosestudentswhoparticipateintheBandProgrammayalsojointheextra‐curricularConcertBandorJazzBand.StudentswhochoosetocontinuestudyingtheirinstrumentthroughtheBandProgramfindittobeachallengingandrewardingexperience,whichpreparesthemtoparticipateintheSt.PatrickHighSchoolBandProgram.
