Why choose English as a foreign language?

Almost everybody have this question on their minds. There are a few that are interested in the

answer but the other ones just don't care about it. It's true that learning a nonnative language is

essential but there are so many and we can be uncertain when to choose. Let's see how English is

the certain choice.

English is a Lingua Franca and also the most widely spread language in the world, then many

countries that we may visit communicate in this language. Furthermore, the language of science,

international organizations, tourism, technology, government, diplomacy, entertainment, sports,

news, and international trades, is, of course, English. Besides this, with this language, you can know

new people, new places, new cultures, new experiences; briefly, a new world.

This language (spoken or written) is really important in our lives, don't be ignorant about this.

English is the world!

The importance of learning English

English is a lingua Franca, which means it is a language used by a large number of countries to

communicate.

Learning English as a foreign language is very useful. For instance, if you travel to a foreign country

and you need to ask someone where the museum is you will probably have to ask it in English.

English is also important at your work since it’s much easier to communicate with the costumers

and clients and exchange information with companies from other countries. This language is the

language of diplomacy, due to the fact you can ensure national security and promote world peace.

It is also the language of tourism.

Nowadays, being multilingual is so important! It helps you at your work, it makes you feel more

complete, you can meet people from all over the world, learn other cultures... It is always good to

improve our knowledge.

So, don’t forget: English is the language of business, tourism, diplomacy and more. English is one of

the most important languages in the world!

Why learn English?

We learn English because it’s necessary to our lives.

Besides this, we use English as a form of communication and it’s used to understand other cultures.

Who knows English can work successfully with many more people and in many more places than

someone who knows only one language.

Therefore, learning English is not just learning grammar and vocabulary; it is learning new sounds,

expressions, and ways of seeing the world; it is learning how to act in another culture, how to know

a new community from the inside.

Furthermore, knowing English enhances opportunities in government, business, law, medicine and

health care, teaching, technology, the military, communications, industry, social service and

marketing.

In conclusion, the world is full of languages but English is the most used by many people.

As a result, with English we can not only know many more places and people but also read

newspapers and books. So learning English will make a difference in how you see the world and in

how the world sees you.

English in our lives

Nowadays we are always facing a world where English is the basis of everything. It is like a dominator that controls the world and we can’t just walk away from it because it is really important. English is one of the biggest responsible for the world development and that says a lot about the importance of this language.

Now to get a job we need English (it is really rare or impossible to see a job where we don’t need that language). So, knowing this language brings us much more jobs opportunities and makes it easier for us to help people. English is the main language for people to communicate what is happening in the world like on radio, on TV and on the newspapers. If it was close to happen an earthquake and the only way to communicate was in English, we would be prepared for that.

Knowing English can make us meet new cultures, new people, new customs, new ways of living, exchange our abilities to talk to each other, tell how we feel about someone or something, ask for help and help other people and to ask for something we need.

To see how important learning English is, we have to think: if everyone just talk in English apart from you, what would you do to understand them? You would probably have to learn their language too.

English, the must-know foreign language!

Many times have I been told by ignorant people:”I only need to know one language” and “English is

a waste of time”. To those people I dedicate this article about why we need English.

English is a world language, the official language of many countries, the second language of many

more. It’s needed all over the world, for every type of situation, from business to communication,

from tourism to entertainment, everybody should learn English!

Imagine you go to a country and you don’t know the language, instead of acting like a mentally

challenged person, if you know English there is a good chance you will get around that country

easily. Not to talk about the barriers it breaks, if you know English you will get easy access and

understanding to the world’s information, to your favourite programs (if they’ve been dubbed), to

the world’s music and basically anything else you can think of. The Romans had a Latin expression

that characterized a language such as English and that expression is “Lingua franca” which is a

language systematically used to communicate between people not sharing a mother tongue.

Learning English isn’t a duty it’s a right, the right to understand the world, to speak freely across the

globe and to connect the chain that links every single human being in this world.

Once you know English you’ll realize the sky is the limit and you’re on a cloud. It may not solve

every communication problem but it will change your vision on the world and the world’s vision on

you.

Michael Gonçalves Luis, 10º8

The Importance of English in our Lives

English is the chief language of Britain, the USA, Australia, and a number of other countries. More

than 200 million people speak it as their first or their only language. Some parts of the world learn

it as a foreign language to use in communication with people from other nations. It is the official

language used between airline pilots and the air traffic controllers in all countries and the main

language of international business, science, and medicine and computing.

It brings several amounts of advantages in the world of economy. It may give you promotions,

you’ll be seen as a bridge to new clients or customers and the best of it all, and you’ll likely to win

trust and friendship of people from other cultures.

Nowadays, travelling is not the only way in which people acquire words from other languages. Films

made in one country are shown in many other countries as well as television programmes from all

over the world. It starts to become a familiar language.

To sum up, without English it would be very difficult to communicate with all the nations.
