Philanthropy, and specifically, strategic philanthropy, is a topic finding its way into increasing numbers of disciplines in universities around the world. The purpose of this workshop is to inspire and prepare instructors worldwide to teach an experiential undergraduate class in strategic philanthropy, and to provide resources and a professional network to support their course development. Presented at the July 2012 annual conference of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR).

with the nonprofit, government and corporate sectors.• To explore the role of foundations and nonprofit organizations in creating social

change.• To increase awareness of the Washington, D.C. community; its social and

economic conditions; and the response of foundations and nonprofits to the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

• To provide students with a “hands on” experience in grant writing and grant making that will further their understanding of strategic giving for social impact.
