PORTFOLIO OF EVIDENCE
Purpose:
The Portfolio of Evidence (POE) to be submitted is a collection of all the activities and work to be
completed including Workbook & formative assessment tests, the Workplace guide (practical
tasks), supervisor feedback and the summative assessment activities.
The evidence collected and judged will allow the assessor to make a final competence
decision.
From the evidence the assessor will decide whether a learner is:
➢ Competent
➢ Not yet competent and need to present more evidence
➢ Not yet competent and need more training.
Instructions to the Assessor
Ensure that the learners complete and compile the Portfolio of Evidence according to the
instructions to the Learner.

Instructions to the Learner
Your PoE is your responsibility. It is up to you to make sure the evidence required is filed. It is
important that the evidence in your PoE is presented: MGTMGT
Systematically (so that the assessor can find all the evidence linked to each Specific
Outcome easily) MGTMGT
Neatly (so that it can be read!)
Your PoE is also a tool for you to use. Remember—standard based assessment means that your
performance, and the evidence you present will be assessed against the requirements of each
standard. The assessor will not compare your evidence to evidence presented by other
learners. Instead, your evidence will be evaluated to see how it measures up against what the
unit standard says you have to know and do before you can be assessed as competent. You
need to accept responsibility for your own progress and evaluate your own evidence. If you are
not satisfied with your response to a particular activity, then rework it. You must be absolutely
sure that the evidence you present is of the standard required.
To meet the requirements of the unit standards you will need to do some work on your own. This
may require that you do some extra reading and research. Any extra work you do will add to
your personal development and will help you when you plan your career path and future
learning.
Take pride in this document—it belongs to you and is a reflection of what you can do.
Any evidence you present must be:
❖ Current (it must not be too old)
❖ Valid (it must match the outcomes listed in the unit standard)
❖ Authentic (it must be your own work)
❖ Sufficient (there must be enough evidence available to proof competence)
Responsibility of the witness / evidence gatherer:
If you present evidence that requires a witness to assist you in gathering evidence, the witness
must sign the evidence. The witness must understand that they are signing a declaration that
they have seen or heard you, or have read your evidence and that you have met the required
standards. The declaration is legal. If an assessor or moderator feels that it is an invalid or
Learner guide version 2016-10 © MGT Training Solutions

insufficient declaration, the witness may be required to support their declaration in a Court of
Law.
Content of the POE
These documents should be filed in the following order. Use file dividers to separate the different
sections and clearly write the Section Number. All of the documents should be placed in a file
with your name and ID clearly indicated on the front cover of the file.
1. Registration guide
2. Learner guide with formative assessment results and log reports.
3. Assessment guide: Summative Assessment Admin & Results
4. Annexure A: Written Knowledge Questionnaires
5. Annexure B: Workplace Guide
6. Annexure C: Workbook & SA Overview tests
7. Annexure D: Supervisor Reports
LEARNER’S STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT
I, the undersigned, agree and give my full assurance that I will be proactively involved in the
gathering of evidence for my Portfolio. I will abide by the both formative and summative
assessment requirements and fulfil them to the best of my ability. I will ensure that I follow the
process for the gathering of evidence and assessment according to the agreed upon learning
and assessment plans and will present all the evidence identified as necessary for me to achieve
competence. I will only submit evidence that has been completed by myself.
I will, at all times, abide by the legislation governing standards-based assessment and thereby
protect the integrity of the National Qualifications Framework.
I will communicate effectively with my facilitators, coaches and assessors, informing them when
I do not understand an issue. I will ask the questions required for clarity.
