Our 10th anniversary continues into the fall season. Traditionally, fall has been one of our busiest times of the year with hockey, figure

skating, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, and soccer all starting new seasons. As the kids are getting ready to go back to school, our After School Program kicks back into gear. Just like our summer camp, the After School Program is totally revamped for the new school year. See page 24 for more information and the early registration discounts.

We have a few weeks left with our pools, so if you’re looking for a great party idea for the early fall, our private pools are the way to go.

Because we all like to hold onto summer our Summer Music Series forges on in to the fall with Unforgettable Fire and Shilelagh Law.

Did you attend our Murder Mystery Dinner in May? If not, you really missed out! The turnout was great and because of the demand, we have one scheduled for October 22nd, right in time for Halloween. Spooky!

We had a great summer, welcoming so many new families into our summer camp programs.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RED BUTTON !When on a page for any class on aviatorsports.com, look for red REGISTER buttons. This will lead you to the specific class page on our online registration system, DASH. Aviator Gymnastics’ newest class, parkour has brought an influx of new students to the Aviator Gymnastics Center. Parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation. Parkour practitioners aim to get from one point to another in an area without assistive equipment and in the fastest way possible. Quite literally, the definition in Merriam Webster is: the sport of traversing environmental obstacles by running, climbing, or leaping rapidly and efficiently. It’s beautiful to watch, and the athleticism of athletes is incredible. Participation in parkour at Aviator has skyrocketed, and new equipment has been purchased to provide students a better experience. In February 2016 Aviator Gymnastics purchased a modular parkour setup. The

structure has over 25 parts and is entirely customizable. Aviator coaches alter the set up weekly to work on different techniques and keep class fun.At Aviator parkour classes are coached by three experienced coaches, two of which have been training together for eight years. Thomas and Jose are passionate about their training and their students and have been pleased with the program’s growth.“Right off the bat, I would say that the fact it is open to boys and girls of all ages is great,” said Thomas. “Siblings and friends can take the class together. It’s great all-around exercise, and our set-up is different, which is very appealing,” said Jose. “It’s also all about fun; it’s not competitive, and students move to their own ability. That resonates with kids and parents.The popularity of the NBC tv show American Ninja Warrior helps as well. The show features some

of the elite athletes attempting to complete a series of obstacle courses of increasing difficulty trying to make it to the national finals. Athletes on the show utilize many of the skills developed in parkour classes.

• Stage 1 consists of obstacles that test the competitors’ agility and speed.

• Stage 2 consists of obstacles that test the competitors’ strength and speed.

• Stage 3 consists of obstacles that test the competitors’ upper body and grip strength.

For Thomas and Jose as coaches it’s important to address the fundamentals in their teaching. “We encourage students to use their creativity in getting around the challenges,” said Thomas. “Jose and I like teaching parkour because we get to change the way students see challenges and obstacles. Through parkour, we can turn those two things that could be negatives into something they enjoy through fun classes.”

For Jose, it’s knowing that children are in a controlled environment with supervision and safe equipment that satisfies parents who may be concerned about the difficult tricks and stunts that they see online. “Our students are taught that parkour is a discipline for self-improvement just like martial arts,” said Jose. “They learn not to be reckless with what they have learned and that the classes are all about strengthening their body, not hurting it,” added Thomas.To see what parkour at Aviator is all about watch the phenomenal video that they put together.Fall classes are open for registration now, but the gymnastics staff recognizes that there may be more questions about this new addition to the curriculum and they are happy to answer questions or show you the studio.

AVIATOR CLUB VOLLEYBALLAviator Sports and Events Center, New York’s largest sports and events venue, has partnered with Max Auguste, Executive Director of Fundamental Private Volleyball Training LLC. This collaborative mission will unveil a professional coaching staff charged with the responsibility to provide the top-notch technical and tactical training needed for players’ enjoyment, while taking their game to the next level.

Max Auguste is a former player and captain of the St. Lucia National Team and was named National Volleyball Player of the Year in 1995. Prior to starting his own organization, Max offered his expertise to St. John’s University’s women’s volleyball program as Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator for two seasons. Known as an exemplary teacher of the game, Max has served as director and volleyball instructor at a myriad of volleyball clinics and related programs in the New York Metropolitan area. Max is also a CAP I Certified USA Volleyball Instructor and Beach IMPACT USA Volleyball Coach. According to Max, teaching the sport of volleyball as a disciplinary tool to foster positive choices continues to be the hallmark of his organization’s success, and is very elated that Aviator Sports have embraced that philosophy through a partnership arrangement

Aviator Sports Volleyball Club (ASVC) is a girl’s Junior Club Team that plays in the Garden Empire Volleyball Association region of USA Volleyball (GEVA). We are dedicated to the development of volleyball and the life skills of our young athletes. Our club season begins with a parents information meeting in October. Tryouts are in November and the club season runs from December to May.

Pickleball is the newest sport to come to Aviator, and wen couldn’t be more excited. With so few programs in the area, as well as limited court locations, Aviator Pickleball is a unique and inexpensive opportunity to learn the game, have some fun, and exercise while improving your skills. Combining court dimensions similar to badminton, paddles similar to table tennis and a light ball similar to wiffleball, Pickleball is a unique experience. Unlike tennis, the ball is served underhand to begin the volley, and a point is scored when a team allows two bounces without a return. Casual games are customarily played to 11 while tournament play ends with a score of 15 or 21.

DIVISIONSJunior CampThis camp is designed especially for our youngest campers. At this level, campers will still benefit from a wide variety of activities for the older children, but it’s scaled to be suited for their developmental stage. Among the activities that your children will enjoy include tumbling, turf activities, fun team sports, as well as appropriate educational programming. There are two scheduled downtimes during the day, as well as two snack times and lunch. This group does not go on outside trips.

Younger DivisionChildren in this division are at the translational level and will be introduced to new activities, including ice skating. These campers will have an outside trip every week, expanding their horizons, and can look forward to a higher level of gymnastics, team sports, and science projects. Children will have fun socially with sports, educational activities, and one field trip per week to an age appropriate destination that reinforces what is learned in camp.

Older DivisionIn the Older Division, kids are participating in in-house sports leagues, pedal karts, ice skating, theater, drama and will take one field trip per week. Children in the Older Division will feel like they have earned all the new activities they have available to them. Campers will be having fun with their friends while learning and staying active.

Teen DivisionAt the Teen Division level, our counselors help empower campers to explore their bigger interests while engaging in social activities with friends. It’s all about your child feeling confident, excited, and engaged. Teens are actively participating at the highest level of our activities in swimming, sports, science, and everything else we have to offer.

The room contains an in-house sound system, wireless microphone, wireless internet, bathrooms and two private meeting rooms. The capacity of the entire 20,000 sq. ft. Field House is 3,000 people.

COMPASS ROSEThe expansive grassy area located in front of Aviator Sports & Events Center is known to guests as the “Compass Rose.” We host unique festivals, fairs, and circuses that take place on the Compass Rose throughout the year. The field is 300 ft. wide by approximately 700 ft. long with easy access to the main building, outside bar and outdoor playing fields. One of the largest open spaces in the area, it can be used for sporting events, festivals, group outings, and picnics. You can also book this area for your own group event!

OUTDOOR BAR The outdoor bar is open to the public on the weekends from May through the Fall. It is a full-service bar with TVs, music, picnic tables and food available. Aces Patio is alsoavailable to rent for events, gatherings, etc.

Have a fun night as you follow along the instructor guides you step-by-step through the featured painting in about two hours. Went to Aviator Sports after getting tips and recommendation from some Brooklyn friends, who used Groupon deals. First of the deals were awesome. 35 bucks for family of four that incl: 3hrs of ice time, w rentals, w lunch! Sometimes there’s even addl discounts on top. Been there twice now with groupon buys. There’s two ice rinks open year round in the massive facility. There’s also a challenging rock climbing wall, full arcade, basket courts, gymnastics, crossfit gym, etc. Only con is the location. It’s on an old obsolete air field and is a 40min drive for us. We end up spending a good half day there. It’s worth every penny, though We keep buying the Groupon deals after going there. So, we’ll just keep going…

Amazing facility! A wide variety of activities and ample space for multiple events going on at once. I ran the Rugged Maniac obstacle run here and was blown away by this place. Rock climbing to swimming and ice skating. Great for large groups or parties.
