Overview• LEAPS-eligible pupils who intend to apply through UCAS will

receive a LEAPS interview.• Interviews take place from August – October each year.• Purpose of the interviews:

– To help make students aware of the range of opportunities open to them.

– To give help and advice to assist with the decision-making process.– To give students pointers on how to make a successful application.– To raise Pre-Application Enquiries (as appropriate) to help students

make best use of their UCAS choices.• LEAPS typically interview 2000+ students across 59 schools.

The New System• The interview form is now online.• Teachers have access for monitoring purposes.• Pre-Application Enquiries (PAEs) will be submitted to

universities and returned to pupils electronically.• The whole process should be quicker and (hopefully) easier

for everybody.

Preparing for LEAPS Interviews - Logistics

• You can gather your cohort together or just supply the link and ask them to complete the form in their own time.

• Ideally this should be done 7-10 days in advance of the interviews.• Keep in touch – please email LEAPS when your cohort is complete.• LEAPS HQ will print out the completed forms and get them to your

school in advance of the interviews.• Stragglers can be added at any time.

₋ LEAPS will monitor this and endeavour to print these forms and give them to the interviewer to take along to your school.

₋ For very last-minute people, we will email a PDF version of the completed form to you to print.

• The more pupils you can compel to complete the online form in advance, the smoother the process should be.

Using the Schools Screen• Interview status pre-interview

– Awaiting interview – Record incomplete

• There’s only a problem if a student’s name doesn’t appear on the list. In the case of ‘Record incomplete’ we will gather the extra info at interview.

• Interview status post-interview– Interview complete– Not eligible– Absent

• This list will help you to determine which pupils should have the LEAPS eligibility tag on their UCAS reference.

Pre-Application Enquiries (PAEs)• We will raise PAEs for students where appropriate.

– If the student is borderline– To help raise confidence– To help them make best use of their 5 UCAS choices

• Key focus is getting PAE responses back to students quickly.• PAEs look quite different, but contain all the same info as before. • PAE responses will be sent back to students by email to their

personal email account. The LEAPS Link Teacher will be copied in.• LEAPS will also keep a record of PAE responses – please contact us

with any queries.
