Supporting the Journey of theAboriginal childwhen travelling between healthcarefacilities and away from home 18. What we set out to doTo improve the quality of information available for Aboriginalchildren and their families when children are transferred, present to Emergency Department and/or are admitted tohospital. 19. Why did we do this? Local community consultations identified a need for culturallyappropriate information for families to improve theirunderstanding of what happens when their children transferfrom a small to a larger healthcare facility, away from theirimmediate community environment. Consultations with Hospital and Emergency staff identifiedsimilar issues. 20. How did we do this? We developed culturally appropriate resources for the youngpatient and their families to support transition across andentry into healthcare facilities. We created culturally appropriate environments within thehospital setting for Aboriginal children and their families tosupport care and recovery. 21. The Environment 22. The Resources 23. The DVD 24.
