DOUBLETREE by HILTON SITE OF A TRULY ELEGANT AFFAIRE CELEBRATING VALENTINE’S DAY

The Grand Ballroom of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Newark was again the site of this – the 27th annual An Elegant Affaire bene-fiting LOV’s Arts in Schools Program which provided 14,302 children with 38 assemblies in 11 schools in Fremont, Newark and Union City last school year. It was a beautiful evening, with delicious food and fantastic prizes.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, our silent, live and on-line auction donors, the fantastic food, dedicated volunteers and generous din-ner guests, we netted over $16,000 for the “Arts in Schools” program, Guests were seated at tables with a beautiful centerpiece thanks to Dirk Lorenz of Fremont Flowers. White Crane Winery champagne flowed at the reception. Always popular was beer tasting thanks to Das Brew of Fremont. The guests enjoyed an array of delicious hors d’oeuvres from Gael Stewart of Mission Coffee, while listening to the beautiful Mexican harp music of Salvador Vazquez. Again this year, the guests were mystified by the slight of hand of magician Jerry Li during the cocktail hour. The four course gourmet meal placed before the guests was 5-star – thanks to the talents of Executive Chef Rico and wine poured all night during each course.

Our super MC, Rick Geha, kept the evening lively and fun and auctioned off some great prizes that were donated to us. Without a lot of pressure, Rick was able to get some generous bids during the live auction and for pledges for what we call ‘Funding a Need” which raised additional support for our Arts in Schools program .Some of the fantastic auction prizes were: a deluxe box for 18 people at an A’s game and 4 tickets in a Mezzanine Suite to watch the Warriors at their first post season game donated by Supervisor Richard Valle. There was a Golden State Warriors autographed ball by all the 2016 Championship Team , an autographed jersey by Warrior’s Kevin Durant, a week in a luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas– thanks to LOV’s Executive Director, Shirley Sisk and a terrific tamale party wagon for 12 – donated by Mayor Al Nagy – just to name a few.

RE-GIFTING AN EASY WAY TO SUPPORT

We all have received gift cards to restaurants and stores that are well-intentioned but something we will probably never use. Why not donate them to LOV? We will use them to raise money through our events that help support our programs, such as: Arts in Schools, Summer Recre-ation, Thanksgiving Day Meal, Holiday Toy Drive and Adopt-a-Family. You will receive a donation letter and know that your re-gifting has become a gift to make a difference in the community. Just send them to us at 8440 Central Ave. Suite A/B, Newark, CA. 94560

THANK YOU

THE S.H.A.R.E.S. PROGRAM It has changed. The cards so many of you took to help support LOV at the Lucky’s, Save Mart, Food Maxx, Smart Foods stores as you shopped were discontinued in April last year. The corporate office of these food chains have switched over to another method – which still will support non profits and schools when you shop. Here is what you have to do as a Lucky shopper:

1. Sign up for Lucky Rewards – go to www.luckysupermarkets.com/rewards ** by filling out the sign up now and fill out form

2. Once you are logged on – click on GIVING BACK

3. Then click on SHARES Card

4. Then click on ENROLL TODAY

5. Then Click NEW TO eSCRIPT

6. Fill out form – Besure to select NON PROFIT THE

LEAGUE OF VOLUNTEERS Once you start typing, it will auto fill – just click on

7. You can enter multiple phone numbers on sign up.

That way 2 family members can log in at the Lucky’s Store at the cash register – use the credit card pad and log in with a phone number.

** NOTE** You can do the same with Save Mart, Food Maxx and Smart Food

We know this takes a little time. However once it’s done – it is no problem when you been fortunate to receive on the average every quarter – a $300 plus check from SHARES.

Thank you for your support

TINY TICKETS – These are what we call left over BART tickets. They are slowly going away – with the issuance of the “Clipper Card”. However, if you have any, you can help LOV and our many programs with this way to raise funds. BART will give us the value of every card we turn in. Please send them to LOV at 8440 Central Ave. Ste A/B, Newark 94560 or drop them off at our center. BART has made it possible for nonprofits to turn these in for the cash value on the tickets. So – don’t throw those “tiny tickets” away – donate them to us for as long as they are still in circulation. Thank You

Other ways to give to lovEmployer Matching Gift/Contributions Program. If your

company has such a program, ask them for details.

Planned Giving • Bequest in Your Will. Leave a legacy through your will. You can give a specific dollar amount, or you can assign a percentage of your estate. Your gift can be unrestricted or it can be designated for a specific LOV program. • Life Insurance Gift. A large gift with little cost to you. Give a policy with LOV as the owner and beneficiary.

• Living Trust. Make a revocable gift during your lifetime. Name LOV as beneficiary of assets in the living trust.

For details, talk with your attorney or estate planner.

Your support to keep LOV’s programs continuing to service the community is very much appreciated.
