Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program
Purpose: Program dedicated to developing professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today's complex health care environment, with special attention to unique challenges facing women in leadership positions.
Intended Audience: Senior women faculty at the associate or full professor level in academic medicine, dentistry and public health who demonstrate greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years.
Time Commitment and Cost: A year-long part-time fellowship for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry and public health. Program fee is $12,900, plus travel and lodging.
UAB Medicine Quality and Safety Academy Purpose: to disseminate knowledge of the why and the how of
process management and performance improvement.
Intended Audience: Physicians, nurses, clinicians and administrators, and students and trainees with an interest in quality and safety
Time Commitment and Cost: Academy uses a blended format that meets on campus each semester for 4 weekend-long intensive sessions plus outside readings. No cost.
The UAB Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Safety is an online, four course program designed to extend knowledge and skills in the areas of quality improvement and patient safety. Certificate course credits can be applied to the Master’s in Healthcare Quality and Safety program.
UAB Healthcare Leadership Academy
Purpose: to identify and develop future leaders of the UAB academic health center.
Intended Audience: Division directors, section chiefs, vice chairs, medical directors, assistant/associate deans, and others who have been in demanding positions for 2-4 years. 24 participants per year.
Time Commitment and Cost: Begins each year in October with 1.5 day retreat as well as a one day per month commitment. No charge
Nominations are sought from deans and center directors from the health profession schools.

Harvard-Macy Program
Purpose: to enhance professional development of physicians, basic scientists and other healthcare professionals as educators.
Intended Audience: Faculty at all levels with an interest in: learning and teaching, curriculum, evaluation, leadership, and information technology.
Time Commitment and Cost: Program requires a total of three weeks of training. $5,900 registration, approximately $7,900, travel and lodging expenses.

AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar
Purpose: to enhance professional development of physicians, basic scientists and other healthcare professionals as educators.
Intended Audience: Designed for women physicians and scientists holding medical school appointments in early stages of leadership positions within their discipline, department or institution, ideally with at least 1-2 years in academic medicine.
Time Commitment and Cost: Three and a half-day seminar. Registration fee is $1,796 plus travel and lodging.
Focus on career building skills: communication, conflict management, financial acumen, employ strategic thinking about career and leadership development.
AAMC Minority Faculty Seminar
Purpose: Addresses specific needs of mid-career faculty from a culturally responsive approach offering skill building and strategies for pursuing career advancement in academic medicine. This professional development seminar
Provides networking opportunities, Executive coaching sessions, CV review for career development planning, observational learning opportunities where participants matched with a senior faculty member outside their institution.
Intended Audience: Individuals at associate professor level who aspire to leadership positions in academic medicine.
Time Commitment and Cost: Seminar delivered through blended learning model that consists of: virtual learning sessions/webinars; a “brick and mortar” one and a half-day in-person meeting; post-seminar activities.
Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar Purpose: Covers a variety of leadership topics, emphasizes the skills
needed to advance to senior roles within academic medicine, and provides time for participants to strategically reinvigorate and realign their career with their goals.
Provides networking opportunities, Executive coaching sessions, CV review for career development planning, observational learning opportunities where participants matched with a senior faculty member outside their institution.
Intended Audience: Women physicians and scientists holding medical school appointments at the associate professor level and holding leadership positions within their discipline, department or institution.
Time Commitment and Cost: Three and a half day curriculum designed to provide mid-career faculty with the knowledge and skills required to continue advancing to leadership roles in academic medicine. Registration $1817 plus travel and lodging.
