Don’t Push God Away

Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers” David knew how to obtain God’s blessings. King David understood the path we need to take in order to be blessed by God. The very first thing he mentions when he writes this compilation of praises to God is for us to know how we can achieve happiness. Whether we think is important or not, we all desire to be happy. Different things make us happy. Different things make us smile, but the happiness described by King David is a happiness that is not given to us by things. A comedy can make us laugh for a couple of hours, and a good dessert can put a smile to our face. If what you want is perpetual happiness, that is not found in the things you do, but in the things you abstain from. God’s blessings come when We DO NOT eat of the fruit in the middle of the Garden. We abstain from the activities that push God away from us. We stay away from the things that make God move away from us. You see, God is wanting our presence. God wants to be near us, but the things that we do either pull him closer or push him away. Don ’t do the things that push God away! - David

God’s Masterpiece

Scott Pruitt We are almost two weeks into the New Year. How is everyone doing with your resolutions? Sometimes we succeed. Sometimes we get knocked down and fail. In the words of Rocky Balboa in Rocky V, “when things get hard, don’t look for someone to blame. Nobody is going to hit as hard as life, but life is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That’s how WINNING is done. You ’ve got to be willing to take the hits without pointing fingers at someone to blame. Cowards do that and that ain’t you!!! Until you start believing in yourself, you aren’t going to have a life.” So often, we start out strong, but give up at the early signs of life’s attacks. I was greatly challenged this past week at my youth ministry conference, and I have been thinking about this thought multiple times a day. Know this. I love you no matter what. My love and pride for you does not come from what you accomplish, but who you are. For your successes, I am very happy, but I am always proud of you, because you are exactly what God created.
