1 LEADERSHIP INTRO B e The Change – Leadership (BTC) is a unique, deep immersion frontline leadership program, drawing on the frontline experience of Linda Cruse in critically disadvantaged communities around the world. The program has been strategically designed to fast- track leadership skills in a real-world setting and to provide a profound experience that will impact individuals and organisations. BTC is also available as a stand-alone frontline experience. BTC differentiators: It enables participants to fully immerse themselves in and contribute to disadvantaged communities by working on the frontline – which means participants are part of the community, working with the people. Takes business leaders out of their familiar leadership environment, creating a deeper understanding of themselves and their personal and professional purpose. BTC utilises the business acumen and experience of business leaders to solve real-life problems. These solutions provide sustainable and economically viable uplift to these communities. The program inspires participants to affect positive change within their own corporate frontline. It places individuals in an environment where they are required to understand a new culture through curiosity, trust and compassion. BTC provides an extraordinary opportunity for both participants and the organisation to leave a meaningful legacy. Develops emotionally aware and purpose-driven leaders who focus not only on the ‘what’ but also the ‘how’. Strips away typical responses and behaviours because there are no familiar points of reference. Led by experienced Frontline Leaders, participants are immediately engaged in the frontline community very different to the one in which they normally live. Here they are given the responsibility to apply their business skills and experience to solve significant real-life problems. Critical analysis, problem solving, innovation, negotiation and entrepreneurial skills are among the competencies required to bring about real and long-lasting economic and social uplift for the community. Facing these challenges enables participants to build awareness of their typical responses and behaviours and adapt to create meaningful relationships and outcomes. To prepare for their frontline immersion experience, participants engage via an online multi-media leadership course. Post-experience, participants complete a series of focused modules that facilitate the design and embedding of new leadership practices. “I would never have imagined that my professional expertise could have been so useful…a must-experience for anyone who wants to feel that depth of sustainable contribution and far better than any traditional development training experience.” KAREN EMANUEL CEO of Key Production and Think Tank

LEADERSHIP INTRO

B e The Change – Leadership (BTC) is a unique, deep immersion frontline leadership program, drawing on the frontline experience of Linda Cruse in critically disadvantaged communities around the world. The program has been strategically designed to fast-

track leadership skills in a real-world setting and to provide a profound experience that will impact individuals and organisations. BTC is also available as a stand-alone frontline experience.

BTC differentiators:

• Takes business leaders out of their familiar leadership environment, creating a deeper understanding of themselves and their personal and professional purpose.

• BTC utilises the business acumen and experience of business leaders to solve real-life problems. These solutions provide sustainable and economically viable uplift to these communities.

• The program inspires participants to affect positive change within their own corporate frontline.

• It places individuals in an environment where they are required to understand a new culture through curiosity, trust and compassion.

• BTC provides an extraordinary opportunity for both participants and the organisation to leave a meaningful legacy.

• Develops emotionally aware and purpose-driven leaders who focus not only on the ‘what’ but also the ‘how’.

• Strips away typical responses and behaviours because there are no familiar points of reference.

FIVE STAGES OF THE BTC EXPERIENCEBTC’s structure is a progressive, personal learning experience. To create the best possible learning, it is important that participants are engaged with all stages. These stages span an agreed period of time, and are structured in a way that learning can be embedded as a permanent leadership skill, not just an experience that is soon forgotten when participants return to their familiar environments. The following describes each stage that form the foundation for learning to take place.

Nominating yourself to take part in a Be The Change leadership experience is a decision you will never regret, or forget. We can also help you identify the best method for choosing participants.

Once identified, participants are given access to a multi-module online leadership course developed by Linda Cruse. By working through this course, participants will unearth, develop and embed enhanced leadership skills through high-impact, experiential learning, leadership lessons, situational leadership challenges and progressive feedback. The programme has been designed to stretch and challenge participants to prepare them for their immersion in an unfamiliar environment. In addition, participants are given information about the country, culture and customs of their BTC destination. Key BTC facilitators are available to provide individual support, feedback, coaching and mentoring.

Participants receive limited information about the community in advance, enough to get them engaged and curious about the experience ahead. This is intentional as a key BTC leadership lesson is for participants to deal with uncertainty and work outside their comfort zone. There are also administrative and personal tasks to perform—flights, visas, paperwork, clothes, and vaccinations to organise. Participants are supported through this stage by the BTC operations team.

BTC participants fly out to their destination and meet the community. They learn how to communicate, collaborate and cope in a challenging and unfamiliar environment. Plans

are developed which will bring long-lasting, community-wide change. The community is fully involved in discussions and final adjustments are made before the plans are implemented. Unforgettable!

During this final yet critical phase, learning is reinforced through formal group sessions and coaching (group and 1:1), so that each participant’s experience can be integrated into their personal and professional lives. In addition, there is follow up communication including feedback, sharing of further information, photos and general conversations as the bond formed by participants is reinforced. Take-away materials are provided to enable participants to keep track of key actions and for use as a toolkit after their frontline leadership experience.

LEARNING OUTCOMESAt the end of the BTC program, participants will:

• Be aware of the impact they have on those around them and what it means to trust and be trusted.

• Understand the importance of observation, listening and intuition as key relational skills.

• Have developed a deeper sense of purpose and responsibility to those around them.

• Have a sense of fulfilment by contributing to the welfare and uplift of other people.

• Embody their understanding of resilience – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

• Be aware of what they want to bring into their leadership after their frontline experience.

• Have a deeper understanding of what courage means in the context of their leadership.

• Recognise and implement leadership strategies that will create more engaged, caring and meaningful places to work.

• Become more innovative through the creation of sustainable solutions for the frontline community.

• Draw on their frontline experience to foster engaging storytelling as an important leadership skill.

THE FOUNDER Described as one-part pioneer, one-part entrepreneur and one-part magician, Linda Cruse is an international frontline humanitarian leader, leadership expert, innovative thinker, author and inspirational speaker. Linda has worked alongside some of the

world’s most influential figures including HH The Dalai Lama, HRH The Prince of Wales, and Sir Richard Branson, and with companies and foundations including GSK, Nestlé, Cadbury, Thai Beverage, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, UNHCR, Virgin Unite and the World Bank. Linda is author of ‘Marmalade and Machine Guns’, an autobiography documenting a life lived on the edge, and is a guest TED-talk speaker.

Twenty years ago, Linda Cruse was in a job which left her unfulfilled and without purpose. After experiencing temporary loss of sight through stress, Linda was determined to make serious life changes. Within two years, she had sold everything she owned, and for the past 18 years has worked with the best and brightest brains to solve the world’s most critical social and environmental problems.

To achieve this mission, Linda’s strategy has always been to engage the corporate world, drawing on their innovation, creativity, entrepreneurial skills, business acumen and determination to achieve successful and sustainable outcomes.

Linda’s experiential leadership skills have been gained not by books or in classrooms, but by living and working on the global disaster frontline for nearly two decades. In her pursuit, Linda has learned from many teachers along the way: survivors devastated by disaster, eastern gurus, inspirational business leaders, nomadic tribesmen, Amazonian shamans and world visionaries.
