Moral Compass
“Leadership is a scary thing...that’s why few people want to
stand up to the plate......There are many people who want to be
matadors, only to find themselves in the ring with a 2,000 pound
bull bearing down on them, and then discover that what they
really wanted was to wear tight pants and hear the crowd roar.”

National Standards Learning and Teaching
Objective: To understand how to monitor and improve the Quality of Teaching Look at the National Standards for Learning and Teaching Using a 1-10 scale, where 10 is entirely confident and 1 is “ I have no clue...” please mark down a score next to each one. To avoid being socially exposed, only mark those that you would give 6+ to and make a mental note of those that need some work.
OFSTED- evidence
In your current schools, imagine that you are taking the Lead Inspector on a Learning Walk around your school. You want to showcase the best practice in your school. Where would you take them? Why would you take them there- link this to the Evaluation Schedule Grade Descriptors? Question- would your middle leaders know where to take a Lead Inspector and why.....do all staff understand the OFSTED judgements and what they need to do?

Quality Assurance
• Do we get what we expect? Or do we get what we inspect?
• Quality Assurance in Learning and Teaching-
a. Outcomes and progress

d. Student engagement and behaviour

Student and Staff Entitlement
“Best Coat” Lesson observation
“Anxious colleague” Lesson judgement
How is brilliance shared in your schools? How is it identified? How is underperformance challenged? Is the process clear? Is the process fair? Do you give your team leaders sufficient training and support to manage both?
Learning and Teaching Strategy
What do we mean by “Strategy”?
• What is Strategy and Why is it Important? • It is important in schools to have an agreed understanding of what
is meant by strategy to facilitate discussion and debate about the strategic direction and development of the school.
• The dimensions of strategy to build that common understanding: • A. Strategy is about direction setting. • B. Strategy is about the medium to longer term. • C. Strategy is about whole school broader trends or actions. • D. Strategy is about strategic thinking and taking a strategic
perspective. • E. Strategy acts as a template for current actions. • F. Strategy is about providing for the long-term sustainability of the
school.
What questions should a Teaching and Learning Strategy answer?
Think about the sub sections a school’s Teaching and Learning Strategy should have. Who? How? What? When? Why?
