FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT OF BATANGAS

Maureen Casa De Claro

[email protected] Taal National High School

Every educational institution is very responsive to changes and challenges. Many programs are being presented and ready for implementation phase. It is the administrators who ensure that excellent teaching and learning are part of every successful school year. Gender and Development is one of the tasks in 21st Century learning worldwide. Determining how leadership performance are related to male and female principals’ attitudes in the First Congressional District of Batangas in deciding what type of leader is best suited for academe. There are few studies related to administrators’ leadership behaviors and their attitudes toward inclusion in any form. The results of this study provide an opportunity to examine the male and female principals’ leadership performance as well as their attitudes toward comprehensive practices. The results also prove beneficial to administrators and other professionals who are working to better their currently existing inclusive programs or to generate new ones. The point is how administrators answer the quest for leading or performing tasks considering the real scenario of gender equality. It is high time to analyze the perceptions of other people towards gender and administrator in order to remove what has to be and to enhance what has to be enhanced. INSTRUCTION IN MULTIGRADE SCHOOL AT SAN PEDRO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: AN

ACTION RESEARCH

Ruth C. Cuesta [email protected]

West Prosperidad Central Elementary School Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur,Mindanao,

Philippines

Every teacher wants to produce effective readers, those readers who can use reading to learn and can develop in themselves a permanent love for reading. This may seem unattainable in just a short time, but this can somehow be manifested if tried with carefully planned approach and strategies. The Parent-Teacher Partnership in Reading Instruction has been design to answer a need for many teachers in the initial teaching reading stage. It has been planned to involve the many significant people, e.g. parents, community officials, school administrators and other members of the community who can touch the lives of children to make them learn and realize the importance of reading. The main purpose of this approach is to let the children in a multigrade class learn to read effectively by the help of the parents as partners in the teaching of reading. A participatory action research method was used in the study. This study was composed of three important components: the Input, the Process and the Outputs. This approach has enhanced the pupil’s reading ability and changes parents’ attitudes and perceptions on their role in educating their children. PROPOSED INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

PLAN FOR PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS OF THE DIVISION OF BATANGAS

Wilson Tordecilla Ojales

[email protected] Taal National High School

Batangas, Philippines

The key person in the school enterprise is the school principal. His capability to manage the resources of the school determines whether the problem of low academic achievement of students can be properly addressed or not. Considering that the principal has the direct influence on teachers and students, the concerned authorities need to train these academic leaders on effective school management. Leadership and supervision are considered critical variables in the solution of the problem particularly to delivery of instruction because the quality of education is dependent on the kind of instructional supervision and management skills of the principals. Their personal integrity, professional competence, efficiency and credibility matter so much in turning out knowledgeable, skilful and productive citizens. This study described the principals’ personal and professional characteristics, leadership behavior, emotional maturity, and management skills. Likewise, this pointed out the strengths and weaknesses in the teaching and learning process as observed by the principals, master teachers and subject area coordinators with reference to faculty qualifications, mastery of learning content, formulation of objectives, use of appropriate teaching strategies, utilization of learning resources and technology integration, and evaluation of learning outcome. Taking all of these things in capsule form, the researcher came up with a proposed instructional management plan. Key Words: Management, instructional, principals, plan

EHANCING STUDENTS LEADERSHIP SKILLS,

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS THROUGH LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Jose E. Evicner

West Visayas State University Iloilo City, Philippines

This descriptive research aimed to determine the leadership skills, attitudes, and behaviors before and after the leadership training of fifty (50) student-leaders of the Leganes National High School. The study used the one-group pretest-posttest experimental research design that will undergo both pretest and posttest to measure their leadership skills, behaviors and attitudes after they were exposed to leadership training. Means was used in the descriptive data analysis, while the Wilcoxon signed rank test was used in the inferential data analysis. Results of the study revealed that students were regarded with a “high” leadership skills and “very satisfactory” leadership attitudes and behaviors before the leadership training. However, after they were exposed to leadership training, it was turned out into very high leadership skills and outstanding leadership attitudes and behaviors. A significant difference was noted in the leadership skills, attitudes and behaviors before and after they were exposed into leadership training. The concept of leadership training has been in existence for a long period of time but it has been nurtured and helped to grow by narrow-minded leaders. It would mean diversion of activities and other leadership training and thereby result in enhancement skills, attitudes and behaviors. Leader is being guided more and more and taking the form of better communion between leaders itself and its internal members which is driven to serve the common interest not so much by the grinding force of competition but rather as an outgrowth of a sense responsibility. Such service is not compelled; rather, it is rendered voluntarily.

EXPLORING UNWANTED CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR AT GUINTAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-

IMPLICATIONS FOR BETTER MANAGEMENT

Paul Ramsey C. Belencion [email protected]

Guintas Elementary School Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo

The various factors that can possibly influence a grade school student to display unwanted classroom behaviors such as making noises, annoying others, and disrespecting teachers was explored. Eighteen (18) students, identified to display problematic behaviors were purposively selected to participate in this study that focuses on the 8 relevant factors that may affect them namely, school facilities, peers, learning materials, community, subject concerns, personal, teacher factor, and parents. Friedman’s Two-Way Analysis of Variance showed that there are significant differences (p<0.05) in the self-ratings of students on each of the 8 factors considered. The school facilities (mean=80.22), peers (mean=71.3), and learning materials (mean=68.17) were the highest among the self ratings and were considered to be the primary areas for intervention. Personal issues, teacher factor, and parents were the least important indicators implying that the underlying cause of their unwanted behavior is not influenced by relatively sensitive social-cognitive interactions involving their homes, their minds, and their mentors. A dialogue between the school’s stakeholders was carried out to discuss the implications of this study and to elicit useful strategies. Also, brand new chairs, and a water pump were donated by anonymous benefactors. This somehow supported the findings on the need for better facilities. Eva G. Guanzon [email protected]

Northwestern Visayan Colleges Kalibo, Aklan

The study is focused on the status of the K-12 program and the preparation of the country on the ASEAN Economic Integration in terms of preferences and interests, and the misconceptions of the students, parents and teachers in the local setting, so that graduates could benchmark with the graduates of the other ASEAN member countries. The misconceptions of students, parents and teachers added two more years in the program is adding financial burden and longer years of schooling, which may not increase access to technological advancements and increasing job opportunities locally and internationally. A need to significantly improve Philippine education system is called for, ensuring quality assurance and improvement in all aspects of the educational plan. It is important that we view our students, not only because they are in school, rather on the skills and competencies learned beyond textbooks and school grounds. The preparation is on global opportunities for decent jobs, poverty alleviation and economic stability even if they do not obtain a college degree. The local scenario has to make the much needed preparation not only on the Academics Tracks but also on Vocational-Technology Tracks, Sports and Arts relevant to the demand of the industry and competitive to the global market. It is therefore recommended that educational policy be integral part of the educational plan, clear dissemination of information and formulating policies for the best interest or our people. West Visayas State University – Lambunao Campus

Abstract -This study sought to determine the relationship between adversity quotient and teaching performance of thirty (30) faculty members at West Visayas State University–Lambunao Campus during the first semester of the school year 2008-2009. The researcher utilized the respondent’s profile, adversity quotient profile, and the performance evaluation sheet. The study revealed that the faculty members had “high” adversity quotient mean scores and a “very satisfactory” teaching performance. Likewise, it identified personal variables which influence the adversity quotient of faculty members. Further, faculty members who were classified according to their age and academic rank had “high” adversity quotient. However, when they were classified according to length of service, those who served the school for more than 20 years have “high” adversity quotient while those who served less than 20 years have “average” adversity quotient. SPSS Computer Software was utilized in the computation of the research data. Results of the t-test showed that there is a significant difference in the adversity quotient of faculty members when they were classified according to their academic rank and length of service. Results of Pearson’s r showed that there is a significant relationship between adversity quotient and teaching performance of faculty members at WVSU-LC.

Outcomes-based education (OBE) focuses mainly on student attainment of higher-order learning and mastery instead of accumulation of course credits. It becomes a requirement of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as well as to qualify to the Washington Accord. Its principal aim is to facilitate desired changes within the learners. OBE embodies the idea that in order to learn best, the needs to be achieved should be determined first. This study aims to assess the implementation of OBE in the university particularly in the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) of ISAT University. Specifically, it determines how faculty and students of the college accommodate and adapt the OBE standards. All the faculty members of CEA undergo a three-day seminar on OBE. As an output of the seminar, each of the courses needs to have an OBE syllabus. Classroom observations were conducted to determine the extent of implementation of OBE syllabi. Interviews were arranged among respondents chosen from classes of faculty implementing OBE syllabi. Several faculty members were receptive with OBE while a significant number of students were resistant in its implementation because of the added course work.

This paper attempts to develop a model that would predict the productivity level of an employee (public and private) based on the given number of assumptions grounded on literatures and random data. The study used an experimental design using simulation modeling. Assumptions were formulated as basis for the simulation. Findings showed that employment status (tenure) and management leadership styles have the most substantial influence on productivity levels in both public and private higher education institutions. Keywords: simulation model, productivity, tenure, transactional and transformational leadership
