This work is an examination of photography with the woodcut and inlcudes the night as a fundamental role. The long exposures allow the feeble light in the forest to engrave slowly into the sheet film, what refers with this act to the time duration of producing a matrix. The silver fir stands with his superior measure of 265x200 cm in the center of the serie that was created for the exhibition Promenons-nous dans les bois, Une rétrospective de Pierre Aubert avec Nicole Hametner & Vincent Kohler shown in 2010 in the Espace Arlaud in Lausanne. There is a homonymous exhibition catalogue published. As a mysterious appearance surrounded by the dark forest the surreal shiny fir refers to the world of the fairytales. The scene looks like a theater decor framed by the silence of the night and evokes an absence. Aside, there is a large scene of a still live showing a composition of dead beetles. The time seems to be petrified – a feeling provoqued by the long exposure of the nightshots and the changelessness of the forest. However the peaceful appearance of the trees is only a facade, a screen on wich the audience then starts to imagine what could be behind this vegetation. The fir painted with silver and placed in the clearance underline the enchanted dimension of the location. A self-portrait in a three-quarter profile is opposed to a portrait of an old tree. You would think that it is about a quest for resemblance to finally end up in a statement of The Uncanny.
