Val d’IsèreThe legendary resort of Val d’Isère sits at an altitude of 1850 metres and features one of the longest winter seasons in Europe, stretching from the end of November right through to the beginning of May.

The consistent and unrivalled early snowfall is one of the main reasons why Val d’Isère hosts the ‘criterium de la premiere neige’ in early December, traditionally the start of the European leg of the skiing World Cup tour. However, this sophisticated and “must ski” resort’s dependable snow record is just one of the many reasons why Val d’Isère was chosen to host the prestigious FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in February 2009.

The diverse terrain of this internationally renowned resort is combined with that of the neighbouring resort Tignes to complete the Espace Killy, affectionately known by the title ‘le plus bel espace de ski du monde’ – translating literally as ‘the most beautiful ski area in the world’. Val d’Isère is also perfect for non skiers, who can meet up with the rest of their party and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings by taking the short gondola or chairlift up to one of the many celebrated alpine lunch spots.

With its mixture of modern and traditional architecture, the village of Val d’Isère mixes Savoyarde charm with world-class amenities. Shops, bars and restaurants abound on the main street, whist a short walk into the heart of the village takes you back into the old world of the village’s three hundred year old history.

Alternatively, they may choose to explore their home for the week with a game of hide and seek or play with the numerous board games, giving you peace of mind to enjoy the mountain air from one of our outdoor hot tubs.

On entrance into the beautiful property you are drawn into an exquisite winter retreat on which the emphasis is on luxurious comfort and sumptuous homeliness. Travertino marble steps take you up from the ski fitting room to the main entrance hall of the chalet, elegantly finished with warm Italian tiles and reclaimed wood over 200 years old.

The private terrace and hot tub are accessed from the main entrance hall, as well as from all three ensuite bedrooms on this floor. The second floor is dominated by a huge, open plan living area, its grandeur encapsulated by the high vaulted ceiling and large beams. Yet for all its size it loses nothing of the warmth and homeliness created by deep sofas, a roaring fire and soft textured furnishings. To the right of this fabulous room is the fourth double bedroom and ensuite shower room.

With an understated elegance throughout the chalet you would be hard pushed to find a more luxurious alpine retreat.

Resting elegantly on the side of the Solaise Mountain is our flagship chalet Le Chardon, accommodating twenty guests. With ten en-suite bedrooms, two hot tubs, an 18ft swim spa and several different entertainment areas Le Chardon is the ideal location for both larger groups and corporate guests to soak up the magical atmosphere of the Alps.

Guests may dine together in one of two light and airy dining rooms, whilst taking in the spectacular views from the floor to ceiling windows that adorn the entire chalet. Le Chardon is undoubtedly one of the largest chalets in Val d’Isère, spread over four floors and with an impressive private terrace, a great spot to relax in the mountain sun with a well deserved drink before dinner.

However, despite its impressive size, Le Chardon feels like a combination of boutique hotel and large family home, bringing the best from each to create an exceptional holiday location.

Sleeping fourteen people, each luxury en-suite bedroom has character and individuality, evoking a sense of tranquillity and serenity through the use of rustic Savoyarde wood, Italian marble and magnificent picturesque windows predominant throughout.

Whether you are watching the sun set over the Roche de Charvet from your steaming hot tub or reading your daily international newspapers on one of the secluded balconies, the views from Mistral are unbeatable, stretching down the Manchet valley and beyond as far as the eye can see.

It is no surprise that Lafitenia is a firm favourite amongst returning guests, with its wonderful features and feelings of homeliness. Enjoy time relaxing in the cinema room or keep in touch with home using the computer and wireless broadband facilities.

With its warm and inviting living room, Lafitenia, like all our chalets, is an ideal place to return after a day exploring the Espace Killy. Chalet La Bergerie is located on the site of an old “Bergerie” or shepherd’s shelter dating back to the 17th century. This unique chalet has been renovated with many of the original features blending the old with the new.

La Bergerie sleeps ten guests in five delightful bedrooms, with the addition of a small interconnecting room, ideal for a child or nanny. Every room has an individual sense of style and character which makes them all an equally attractive retreat after an active day on the slopes. The modern interiors of La Bergerie and the state of the art cinema room complete with a Nintendo Wii makes La Bergerie a haven for people of all ages

There are many different ways to reach Le Chardon Mountain Lodges. Scheduled flights will take you to numerous airports with Geneva, Lyon and Chambery being the closest, or you may prefer the expediency of a private flight which can be arranged through our specialist aviation partner.

The moment your plane lands your experience at Le Chardon Mountain Lodges begins; whether you decide to take the private transfer with a champagne picnic or travel in extraordinary style with a helicopter journey over the Alps, you will be sure to arrive refreshed and ready to go.

Even before your plane takes off Le Chardon Mountain Lodges can arrange a meet and greet parking service or a chauffeur service to and from your UK airport of choice.

Flying is not the only way to reach Val d’Isère; if you prefer to drive, cruising along the peages and taking in the mountain views then this could be the option for you. We can provide you with fully comprehensive driving directions and when you arrive will park your vehicle and return it ready for your journey home.

With two beautiful beaches only a walk away, including the World famous Lafitenia Bay, La Maison Tamarin carries on the tradition of Le Chardon Mountain Lodges. There are many bars and restaurants within walking distance and the beautiful town of St Jean de Luz is only a bike ride away where you can take in the architecture, shopping or cuisine of this famous old fishing port. The cosmopolitan town of Biarritz is just a short drive away with its boutiques, renowned surfing beaches, casino, thalassotherapy, golf courses and international airport.

With a panoramic view from east to west and mountain to coast, La Maison Tamarin is truly special. Add to this the beautiful landscaped gardens and large salt water pool and you will understand why the cares of the world disappear when you stay here.
