Our new VISION changes boating holidays forever!

Our new Vision - A knock-out success!Vision is the new name for our boats in the luxury 1500 Series. Already a huge success with our customers in 2011, we’re delighted to introduce more to the fl eet this year so more of our customers can enjoy luxury cruising in Europe.

Not only is the Vision the most stylish and luxurious cruiser of any fl eet, she’s also the easiest and smoothest boat to drive. With an extra joystick for manoeuvring in locks and under bridges, driving her is just like child’s play!

The Vision is part of the 1500 Series and unique to the Le Boat fl eet. These luxury cruisers are built by Groupe Bénéteau in partnership with some of the world’s leading marine manufacturers. Featuring the very latest in green and marine technology, including a solar panel for free green energy, our Vision is set to change the way boating holidays are perceived and enjoyed forever.

More details about our new Vision can be found on pages 60-61.

Something for everyone - no experience necessary!Every year we help hundreds of people discover the easy pleasures of a boating holiday; so why not make 2012 the year you join them! Boating holidays are relaxing, fun and easy – it’s as simple as that!

Don’t worry if you’ve never been on a boating holiday before – our boats are so easy to handle that no previous experience is necessary. With just forward and reverse gears to master, they’re very simple to manoeuvre too. We give everyone a hands-on demonstration before they set off as well as an in-depth briefi ng which covers everything from tying knots to how the oven works. We want you to set off feeling confi dent and relaxed – and our experienced teams will make sure they do everything they can to help you.

Plus, our extensive network of bases means you are never very far from our teams of mechanics who will be able to assist you should you experience any problems or diffi culties while you are cruising.

Discover a whole new way to holiday…. Stopping whenever and wherever you want, and for as long as you want, is all part of the fun of a boating holiday. Against a backdrop of ever-changing scenery, you’ll soon discover there’s plenty to see and do both on and off the water.

Enjoy impromptu stops at medieval villages to visit ancient castles or plan an afternoon of fun at an outdoor swimming pool, playing golf or simply having a picnic beside the water. Along your journey make the most of colourful markets for shopping and join in with summer festivals that celebrate a more traditional way of life.

Hire bikes to explore beyond the waterways. With fl at towpaths alongside most of the canals, it’s an ideal way of keeping fi t, having fun and collecting your morning baguette!

Going through locks is a fun part of the holiday and gives everyone a chance to be involved. Once you’ve been through your fi rst lock you’ll soon see they are easy to do. Most locks are automatic and operated by a lock-keeper who will be happy to help you. The locks become great places to swap stories of your travels with your fellow holidaymakers where you can often buy home-made honey, jams, bread and cheese, as well as local wines.

At the end of the day, watch the sun set over reed beds, fi elds and vineyards, mooring up under the stars, along the quayside or in a marina – the choice is yours.

Fantastic for fi shingEurope’s well-stocked rivers are a haven for both rod and line anglers! You can hire an angling dinghy and outboard motor at some of our river destinations to help you reach the most secluded spots of the river. Our base teams will be happy to advise on fi shing licences you might need. See page 77 for more details on our Angling Pack.

Great cruising areas for fi shing include: Rivers Seille & Saône, Burgundy; Rivers Lot, Charente and Baïse, South West France; River Shannon & Lough Derg & Lower Lough Erne, Ireland; Mecklenburg & Brandenburg, Germany; River Thames & Norfolk Broads, England; Caledonian Canal, Scotland.

The fast way to slow down!Don’t forget your binocularsThe waterways of Europe are surrounded by beautiful scenery and gentle scenes of nature; each region has its own special charm. From rare orchids to rare butterfl ies; eagles to hoopoes and otters to swans, the wildlife and birdlife that surround you are stunning. Wherever you cruise, you’ll have close-up views of the local wildlife in their daily habitats.

For stunning wildlife and scenery, we recommend: River Lot, Canal du Midi, Aquitaine & Alsace, France; Saarland, Mecklenburg & Brandenburg, Germany; Italy’s Friuli & Po-Delta regions; River Thames & Norfolk Broads, England; Caledonian Canal, Scotland.

Cruise through the agesYou’re reminded of history at almost every bend in the river, every stop on the canal. From medieval châteaux to splendid gothic cathedrals and ancient castle ruins, to cruise Europe’s waterways is to cruise back in time.

Some of our favourite historical cruises include: Medieval Carcassonne, Canal du Midi; Châteaux Josselin and Blain, Brittany; Windsor Castle, River Thames; St. Mark’s Square, Venice; Crusader ports of Agde and Aigues Mortes, Camargue; the canals and rivers of Burgundy Nivernais Loire.

A gastronomic delightEnjoying the delicious cuisine of a new country, or a new region, has to be the highlight of your holiday! Wherever you cruise, we guarantee you will dine like kings and queens and love the chance to try delicious regional produce, local speciality dishes and of course, regional wines and beers, often sampling them in their place of origin, where of course they taste so much better!

Cruising areas especially renowned for their food and drink include: Burgundy Nivernais Loire (Sancerre, Chablis); Burgundy Franche-Comté (Bourgignon cuisine; Côte d’Or vineyards); Aquitaine & Lot (foie gras, Bordeaux & Cahors wines); Charente (Cognac); Alsace (Riesling wines, tarte fl ambée); Italy (Prosecco, antipasti, seafood); Ireland (Guinness, Irish whiskey; Scotland (wild salmon, haggis, Scottish malt whisky).

Canal du MidiBathed in warm sunshine for most of the year, a cruise along the Canal du Midi is a perfect holiday choice for friends and family looking to enjoy the wonderfully relaxed ambience of life along this beautiful, historic waterway. Cited by many as a journey of a lifetime, a cruise along the Canal du Midi – itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site, takes you on a truly memorable journey through sun-drenched vineyards, old trading ports and the medieval towns and villages of the Languedoc Roussillon – France’s most prolifi c wine-producing region. You’ll fi nd plenty of places to moor up for sightseeing, wine tasting and much more. Enjoy lazy lunches at waterside restaurants and shop at colourful markets for delicious regional specialities and local wines to enjoy back on deck.

CamargueThe Camargue is a perfect choice if you want to combine fun on the beach with historic cruising. Follow the Canal du Rhône à Sète along the edge of the Mediterranean to the walled Crusader towns and old fi shing ports of the Camargue. En route, enjoy delicious seafood and crisp rosé wines at bustling seaside harbours and spend time relaxing on sandy beaches and swimming in the clear waters of the Mediterranean. Enjoy the region’s vibrant, colourful traditions at summer festivals watching gardian cowboys round up herds of black bulls on their beautiful white horses. And, renown for its rich fl ora and fauna, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of wildlife from the unique perspective of your sundeck, so don’t forget your binoculars!

Burgundy Franche-ComtéFrom dense forests, craggy cliffs and mountain scenery to rolling pastures, vineyards and peaceful landscapes, Burgundy’s network of gentle rivers and canals makes this a delightful cruising region and a haven for all who appreciate unhurried lifestyles, fi ne wines, gourmet cuisine and stunning scenery.

Quaint medieval villages and old Roman towns with their bustling weekly markets and old-world charm provide a glimpse into a way of life that is largely unspoilt by tourism. By contrast, larger riverside towns and cities such as Dijon, St Jean-de-Losne and Auxonne offer excellent restaurants and historical buildings resplendent of Burgundy’s richly royal heritage. For many, the chance to cruise in Burgundy and sample some of the world’s fi nest wines in their place of origin is nothing less than a dream come true.

For nature lovers and fi shermen, the clear and calm waters of the rivers Saône, Seille and Doubs and their tributaries are a pleasure to cruise and offer many peaceful mooring places for bird-watching, walking, fi shing and picnics ashore.

Burgundy Nivernais LoireThe charming Canal du Nivernais, reputed to be one of the prettiest in France, and its surrounding network of equally pretty waterways – the Canal de Bourgogne and the River Yonne – give access to some of the most beautiful and varied cruising areas of France. Winding south of Paris through medieval villages and cathedral towns, through green pastures and leafy countryside, this former important trading route is a delight to explore

On the edge of the Nivernais Loire region, the gently sloping Canal latéral à la Loire follows the course of the River Loire. Climb to the top of ancient hill top villages for the best views over this famous Sancerre wine-producing region and the beautiful River Loire itself.

Wherever you choose to cruise, picture postcard scenery and pretty waterside villages dotted with magnifi cent châteaux and ancient churches line your route and the slow pace of life on land mirrors your gentle cruise on the water. This ‘green land of running waters’ is a delight to cruise whatever the time of year.

With nine perfectly placed bases on the principal waterways of the region, and many different cruising suggestions to choose from, Le Boat is proud to offer the widest choice of cruising in Burgundy.

Come and discover all this wonderful region has to offer.

We loved the lakeside concert at Rheinsberg Castle and spent a leisurely time with the

Page 33: Le Boat Brochure Outdoor Travel

Mecklenburg & Brandenburg Situated in the north east of Germany, the beautiful network of crystal clear lakes and rivers of Mecklenburg form an idyllic cruising area that is as popular with boating and watersports enthusiasts as it is with birdwatchers and fi shermen.

Medieval timber-framed villages border the waterways – visit their traditional smokehouses for a taste of the catch of the day! The magnifi cent lakeside castles at Schwerin, Rheinsberg, Fürstenberg and Neustrelitz punctuate the landscape and provide a glimpse into the aristocratic lifestyles of bygone eras. From our main base at Marina Wolfsbruch, hire dinghies, kayaks and canoes on Lake Müritz or simply drop anchor for a splash in the water before settling back to admire the scenery from your sundeck.

From our base in Potsdam in the Brandenburg region visit the quirky Dutch Quarter and enjoy open-air summer concerts in the beautiful Sanssouci castle or why not head to the bright lights of Berlin for a city break with a difference. Today its futuristic architecture and pavement cafés sit comfortably alongside the iconic Brandenburg Gate. Or head further east to the open waters of the Spreewald for an aquatic safari through this vast protected nature reserve lined with pretty villages and pine forests.

Saarland & French Alsace The tiny French region of Alsace and neighbouring Saarland in Germany is as wonderful as the art and architecture of its cities. This culturally unique region has a distinctly cosmopolitan feel and offers superb cruising to suit all tastes.

From our main base at Hesse, follow the graceful network of rivers and canals through the Sarre and Moselle valleys to the delightful cities of Strasbourg, Metz, Nancy and Saarbrücken with their gilded Baroque castles and beautiful Gothic cathedrals. Colourful half-timbered villages, windmills and lakes make a delightful contrast in between. You’ll fi nd ample opportunities for swimming, walking, watersports and cycling. Beautiful nature reserves, forests, the famous Arzviller boat lift and friendly waterside restaurants means there’s something for everyone. A second base in Boofzheim allows one-way cruising through Alsace and the Rhine plains, loved for its wildlife, particularly fl ocks of migrating wading birds.

For truly international cruising, and for experienced, licensed skippers, the big Moselle and Sarre rivers take you on a wonderful journey through French, Luxembourg and German waters, taking the thrill of self-drive river cruising to a new level. Saarland’s beautiful forests and landscapes provide a relaxing backdrop to your cruise.

These picturesque waterways are a haven for nature...

Its many surrounding islands - Murano, Burano, Torcello - provide glimpses into Venetian culture, art and history and are also not to be missed. From lace-making to glass-blowing, pizza throwing to fi shing, Venice is a melting pot of arts, crafts, skills and traditional lifestyles which are a delight to discover.

Nieuwpoort, Bruges & Gent

BelgiumFamous for its chocolates and lace, Belgium extends a warm and friendly welcome wherever you go. Peaceful countryside and ancient towns are connected by pretty Flemish waterways which weave their way through this tiny country’s historic landscapes. From markets and museums to monuments, masterpieces and memorials – you’ll fi nd there is always something to see and do, wherever you cruise.

The long sandy beaches at Nieuwpoort provide a great day’s escape, while for many, a holiday in this tiny country would not be complete without a visit to some of the many memorials of the World Wars, particularly those at Ieper.

The beautiful city of Bruges is perfect for shopping and eating out. Its many hump-backed bridges criss-cross a seemingly endless network of pretty canals edged with tempting restaurants, art galleries and boutiques. The imposing Gothic facades of Gent’s many grand buildings and churches signify its prestigious past as the country’s former capital city.

Following the canals through smaller towns such as Diksmuide, Veurne, Ooudenarde, Oudenburg, Bossuit and Deinze, you’ll discover each has their own story to tell - from tapestry weaving and cloth dying to farmers’ markets, baking and book-binding. But wherever you cruise you’re sure to enjoy a warm welcome and because no one ever seems in a hurry, you don’t have to either!

Friesland & Amsterdam,

HollandBoating is a way of life in Holland, so come on board and discover the best way to see this beautiful country! Make friends with the friendly Dutch nation on the waterways, admire the traditional windmills that border your cruising routes, head off on the waterside cycle routes or moor up in smart new marinas where modern facilities are plentiful and good.

The Friesland region in northern Holland glistens with hundreds of lakes and is perfect for watersports of all kinds. Locks are left open throughout the summer and lift bridges become a great meeting point for fellow cruisers. For a glimpse of a more traditional way of life, cruise to some of Holland’s many nearby villages which host a variety of summer art exhibitions and festivals and are a delight to visit and join in the fun. If you’re looking for more cosmopolitan cruising, then cruise to Amsterdam, passing colourful fi elds of tulips and slender 17th century townhouses en-route.

You’ll love these friendly waterways!

Easy anchor grading systemThe more anchors a boat has, the more it has to offer, it’s as simple as that!

Use our anchor grading system to match a boat to your budget and expectations in terms of overall age, style, and comfort. Of course, excellent standards of customer service and support come with all boats - whatever the anchor rating!

Ultimate cruising experienceOutstanding boats offering latest marine technology for superior cruising. Superb onboard comforts with modern designer fi xtures and fi ttings. Air-conditioning, Flat screen TV/DVDs, 220V electrical appliances, shore power, en-suite bathrooms to all cabins. Designed for environmentally conscious cruising.

Excellent and luxuriousBoats fi tted and equipped to a very high standard including modern en-suite cabins, heating and cooling. Easy-cruising features include bow thrusters and shore power.

Good quality and stylishGood quality boats with high standards of onboard comfort and facilities. All boats equipped with shore power.

Well-presented and comfortableWell-presented boats with good standards of onboard comfort and facilities.

Affordable and basicBasic boats with acceptable standards of onboard comfort and facilities.

Comfortably sleeps…Sleeps 12 (10+2) 5 cabins + saloon

All our boats are classifi ed according to how many people they comfortably sleep. If a boat is listed as 6+2 it means that it sleeps six people comfortably in cabins, with the option to sleep two further people on a convertible bed/settee in the saloon area.

Boat layouts

Single beds convert to double bed

Seating converts to double or single bed

Double bed

Single bed

Bunk bed

Every boat has a layout which shows the internal arrangement of the cabins, bathrooms, saloon and kitchen galley. Use the layout to see if there will be double, single or bunk beds; whether there are internal steps and how many bathrooms are on board. Many people also like the option of having a spare cabin to store belongings and goods bought during their holiday.

Upgrade programme 2012We have an ongoing upgrade and refurbishment programme to ensure we continue to offer the high standards of onboard comfort and facilities you expect. This year we will carry out complete upgrades on the Grand Classique and Classique Star (see page 63). From new upholstery and fl ooring to complete new kitchen galleys and bathrooms with electric toilets, we are determined to operate the best fl eet on the waterways. 2012 also sees the continuation of our bathroom upgrade programme across all our 4-anchor boats, and all our 6, 5 and 4 anchor boats now offer shore power as standard.

Checking-inYou can expect a warm welcome from our friendly base teams - most of whom speak several languages – when you arrive. Our receptionist will complete any outstanding paperwork and if you haven’t already done so, help you choose which itinerary would best suit you and your party. The cabins will be made up according to the number of people in your party and any pre-ordered groceries and extras will be on board ready for you (see pages 78-79 for more information on holiday planning and extras).

Boat handling demonstrationYou’ll be taken out onto the water for a hands-on cruising demonstration by one of our base team. It’s a good idea to appoint one member of your party as Captain so that he or she can be shown how to drive and manoeuvre the boat. Don’t forget, a boat needs a skipper and a crew – so teamwork is very important! Depending on your cruising area, you will be shown how to manoeuvre your boat for mooring in marinas or at the side of the quay; how to drive your boat safely and responsibly and where possible, how to go through a lock. It is important that you feel confi dent before setting off, so rest assured you will be given all the help and advice you need beforehand.

Help & supportWe have been helping people discover the pleasures of inland waterway cruising for more than 40 years and our teams are all very experienced and knowledgeable.

Plus, our extensive network of bases means you are never very far from our teams of mechanics who will be able to assist you should you experience any problems or diffi culties while you are cruising.

Our experienced sales teams are always happy to help. Contact details are on the back cover

Return-to-base cruising On a return cruise you can visit villages and towns on both sides of the waterway and spend longer in the places you love most. As captain you decide how far you travel in a day – all you need to plan is to be back at the base to hand over your boat at the correct time on the correct date. If you’ve travelled there by car, you can leave it safely at the base too.

In our cruising areas where there is only one base – the Lot and the Charente regions in France and the Caledonian Canal in Scotland, you will be able to explore the waterways in either direction from the base using our suggested cruising itineraries which have been designed to enable you to visit the places most enjoyed by our customers over the years.

One-way cruisingOur extensive network of bases means Le Boat can offer more one-way cruises than any other operator, giving you the best opportunity to see more of your cruising region without retracing your steps. All you have to ensure is that you arrive at your end destination on the correct date and by the specified time. At the end of your holiday we can arrange for you to be transferred back to your start base by taxi or alternatively we can drive your car to be ready and waiting for you*. Taxi transfers to take you back to the airport or train station can also be arranged. There is an additional supplement for all one-way cruises, payable at the time of booking. *See page 79 for more details. This service is not available in all countries. Please also note that for operational reasons, the direction of your one-way cruise may need to be changed at short notice, or switched to a return-to-base cruise. Please ask the sales teams/agents for more details.

Short breaksAll our return-to-base cruises are suitable for short breaks, or you can choose one of the specific itineraries outlined in the brochure.Short breaks can be booked in advance during low and mid season to be completed by 15th June or to depart after 20th August 2012. In high season, short breaks can only be booked within four weeks of departure. Boats are available for short breaks from 16:00 on the day of departure and must be returned by 09:00 on the last day.

We’ve put together lots of useful information to help you plan, prepare for and enjoy your holiday. We also have a range of great extras to help you make the most of your time on the water.

Longer breaksLonger cruises of 10-11 days or more can also be booked subject to the boat’s availability. Many people like to use their boat as a longer term alternative to hotels and villas to allow them to spend more time in their cruising region.

Cruising distance & timeWe base our cruising distance estimates on the experience of our teams, working on an average speed of no more than 6km/hr on canals and 10km/hr on rivers. The time taken to go through a lock will vary according to the time of year and how busy the waterway is. We allow an average of 15mins, but this does not take into account waiting times which may also be necessary.

Planning your cruising itineraryOur cruising itineraries are suggestions only. You can also create your own itinerary as long as it only includes waterways listed in this brochure. We recommend that you buy a detailed Waterways Guide for France or other cruising map to help you plan your

holiday – visit our website or speak to our sales teams for further information on maps and guides. Our online Cruising Companion also gives lots of detailed information about your cruising area; it has been developed on the back of the extensive local knowledge of our base teams and feedback from our customers.

Captain’s HandbookOur Captain’s Handbook gives boat handling advice and rules of the waterways. Taking time to familiarise yourself with the signals and signs you’ll see on the waterways as well as procedures for going through locks will ensure you have a safe and happy holiday. But don’t forget – everyone is given a hands-on demonstration before they set off, so don’t worry!

LicencesYou don’t need a special boat licence to hire or drive any of our boats unless you cruise in some areas in Germany. Where licences are required, they need to be obtained in your country before arriving on holiday. Even for cruises in Germany where no licence is required, customers are still required to attend a special 2hr training course prior to departure. For more information, please see the map and details on page 34 - 35, or alternatively ask our sales teams/agents for advice.

Travel & parkingIf you are driving to the base you’ll find maps, GPS co-ordinates and address details on our website – or alternatively ask our sales teams. If you are arriving by train or plane we can arrange for a taxi to transfer you to and from the base. Parking facilities vary according to the base you are visiting. Some bases have secure/locked parking and/or garages on site or nearby which can be used for a small charge when booked in advance. Our sales team will be happy to advise you on parking options and costs for each base.

Swimming

Swimming is not permitted in the canals and is only possible in rivers and lakes where you are advised that it is possible to do so. Check our online Cruising Companion or ask the base where swimming is possible, including the locations of open-air swimming pools. You can enjoy seaside fun by cruising from our base in Nieuwpoort, Belgium where the white sandy beaches of the northern coastline are great for families, and the Camargue, where the warmer Mediterranean promises a perfect blend of sun, sand and sea!

What to packSoft bags are much better than suitcases! Remember to bring rubber-soled shoes and leather or gardening gloves are useful when holding the ropes in the locks. Binoculars and a torch are also a good idea.

TVs, mobile phones & WiFiIn some cruising areas you may find it is not possible to get a good TV, mobile phone or internet signal. Coverage is usually better nearer the towns and villages, where there is also often WiFi access too. Please remember that roaming charges can make it very expensive to send and receive information abroad via digital telecom networks.

InsuranceWe strongly recommend that you take out our personal travel insurance or make suitable alternative arrangements.

Pets & VetsA maximum of two well-behaved pets are welcome on board but a pet cleaning supplement is payable. Check our online Cruising Companion or ask our sales teams for details of local vets if ‘Pet Passport’ vaccinations are required before travelling home.

FishingEurope’s waterways are stocked with an abundance of fish and are a delight for fisherman. For advice on fishing permits, which may be needed in your cruising area, please check out our website or speak to our sales team for more information. Keen anglers will love our Angler’s pack (see page 79) for details.

Locks

You will find various different styles of locks on the canals and rivers in this brochure. Most of the locks are automatic and manned by lock-keepers. Opening hours will be advised by your base, as they vary from country to country, and in different cruising regions. Locks are generally open every day but some are closed on Public Holidays. More details on the different types of locks and how to pass through a lock can be found in our Captain’s Handbook.

Lock-free cruisingIf you’re looking for lock-free cruising, then a return-to-base cruise from our base in St. Gilles in the Camargue is a perfect choice. The Camargue area has few locks to navigate overall.

Age limitYou must be 18 years old to hire a Le Boat self-drive cruiser; 21 years in Ireland.

Customer guaranteeWe want you to enjoy a great cruising holiday and will do our very best to ensure this is the case. In the unlikely event of a breakdown or technical problem that prevents its usage we will send an engineer as soon as possible. If your boat is considered unusable for more than half a day you will be offered compensation based on the daily hire rate.

Great Holiday Extras...

For an extra touch of luxury, why not book a Captain to drive your boat along the Canal du Midi? We can also arrange for a chef to be on board too, cooking delicious local cuisine for you and your party. Staying on board in one of the en-suite cabins, our Vision Crew will help you make the most of your journey along this historic waterway. This luxury service will only be available during July and August, and only on the Vision, so book early to guarantee crew availability. See page 79 for guide prices, and call our sales team or agents for further information.

Bikes for everyone! For collecting your morning baguette to exploring more of your cruising area - the vast majority of our customers fi nd bikes very useful to take on board with them. Flat tow paths

make for easy cycling, while for the more adventurous, your new surroundings are great for exploring on two wheels. Choose from either cross-country bikes or lighter standard bikes. Children’s bikes, including Tag-along bikes - NEW for 2012 and child seats are also available for hire from most bases, where you can also buy helmets if you forget to bring your own!

For this reason, we offer gas BBQs which attach to the railings of your boat, giving you the fl exibility and fun to have outdoor BBQs whenever you want! An extra lantern to light up the night time skies makes all the difference!

Early boarding & Late check-out

Now even earlier! Please note that due to operational reasons, it may not always be possible to offer this service. Please check with our sales teams or agents.

Cleaning serviceAfter a relaxing holiday you probably don’t want to spend your last evening cleaning the boat, so why not pre-book our cleaning service and let us take care of this for you. Prices are dependant on boat size/model, so please ask our sales teams for more details when you book.

ParasolsParasols are essential for providing shade while you cruise. They are provided on board your boats for a refundable deposit, so take good care of them!

Comfort cushionsWhy not hire a pack of top deck cushions for extra comfort while you cruise. They also double as sunbathing mattresses! Cushions are provided on our fi ve and six anchor boats.

Special occasion gift basketsIf you are celebrating a special birthday or occasion, why not pre-order one of our beautifully presented special occasion gift baskets. Full of local delicacies and regional specialities, this is a great way to mark a special occasion.

Greener holidays for a greener planetResponsible cruising….Every year we help hundreds of people discover the pleasures of inland waterways cruising. Unhurried and relaxed, this is a perfect holiday for discovering the simple pleasures of your cruising region – both on and off the water.

However it is important that we all help to protect and preserve these wonderful natural surroundings for the enjoyment of future generations. Please keep to the strict speed limits which exist to help reduce bank-side erosion and protect the huge variety of wildlife and birdlife that live there. Check the boat’s wake behind you – your wash should not break against the river bank. We also encourage you to dispose of your rubbish carefully, recycling wherever possible and to use environmentally-friendly shower gels, soaps and washing-up liquid while on board the boat – all of which are on sale at our departure bases.

During your cruise you will share the waterways with many other users – including commercial barges, fishermen, sailors, bathers and property owners along the waterside. Following basic rules of courtesy we ask you to always slow down when passing moored boats or when approaching fishermen or other smaller boats. Please also respect any signs on the banks and canal side paths and don’t tie up on private moorings or pass the ropes around trees and obstruct the towpaths.

….. Responsible tourismLe Boat is part of the marine division of TUI Travel PLC and shares in the company’s wider vision to provide holidays that respect the environment, support the culture and people of our destinations and offer real economic benefit to local communities.

We draw upon the local communities in which we operate for a range of specialist skills – from upholsterers and curtain makers, to engineers, mechanics and additional seasonal staff. We also source local produce from local farmers and vineyards to make our special occasion special occasion gift baskets.

We take our responsibility for caring for the environment very seriously and are actively working with local and waterways authorities in all our cruising regions to ensure we comply with and, where possible, shape future legislation and implement best practice procedures.

From an operational point of view we ensure our engines are maintained to a high standard to both minimise noise and CO2 pollution and maximise fuel efficiency. We use biodegradable cleaning products to keep the boats clean and all boats are designed to be capable of storing waste products. We recycle all waste materials wherever possible and comply with stringent waste oil and anti-freeze collection procedures.

We are committed to making sure our new products and fleet are as efficient as possible and have a minimum impact on the environment in which they operate - as embodied by the design and development of the new Vision, part of the 1500 Series of hybrid cruisers which joined the fleet in 2011. Key environmental features of our new boats include the option for hybrid cruising under solar-generated electric power, very low CO2 emissions and minimal noise pollution.
