LDCHA RESIDENT SERVICES
My name is Danae Nelson,
and I am excited to serve
as the new Americorps
Member at Resident
Services. I will be assisting
housing applicants with
looking for community
resources and completing
applications and Section 8
voucher holders looking for
units. My background is in
child welfare, specifically working with young
adults who have aged out of the foster care
system. I graduated from Washburn with a
Bachelor of Social Work and am working on a
Master of Social Work degree at KU. I’m a HUGE
college basketball fan, which makes being in
Lawrence all that much better. I am eager to
start this journey with LDCHA residents!
Not able to make it to a focus group? Contact Christina at 785-842-1533 or
at [email protected] to set up a one-on-one meeting. Gift cards are
available for these meetings as well (1 per person).
Christina Gentry, Community Liaison with the
Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, wants
to talk to you! She is seeking input from working or
work-able adults on employment barriers. What makes
getting and keeping a job difficult? What would make
it easier? She wants your input! Christina is focusing on
Edgewood and Eastside neighborhood residents for
her project over the next two years.
Christina will host “Occupation Conversation” focus
groups at the Huppee every Wednesday in November
from 6-7 pm. Call to RSVP, 785-842-1533. Participants
will receive dinner, childcare, and a gift card for
attending (1 per person). Come add your voice to the
conversation!

FINANCIAL LITERACY/HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
Zoë Johannsen Employment & Financial Literacy Specialist
Resident Services Office | (785) 842-1533 | [email protected]
My name is Zoë Johannsen, and I’m the
new Employment Specialist at Resident
Services! My main focus is helping clients
with financial literacy. I’m a recent
graduate of the University of Kansas where
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
Though not a Lawrence native, I have
made it my home for the last 6 years and
have fallen in love with the sense of
community here! My hobbies, aside from
activism, are spending time around art –
any and every kind, reading, attending
concerts, watching films, camping and
traveling. My hope is to offer a friendly smile
and listening ear to anyone who needs it!
Owning a home comes with more costs
than renting. Rebecca Buford, Tenants to
Homeowners, will walk us through preparing
and budgeting for home maintenance.
