Newark, NJ, 7/19/2010 - Each year, nearly 1,500 minority business owners, government officials and corporate representatives attend National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week events. With a theme ‘Strategies for Growth and Competitiveness in the Global Economy,’ National MED Week is the major conference dedicated to empowering minority business owners with the knowledge and tools necessary for success. The MED Week Conference is hosted by the Minority Business Development Agency, a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce . Representatives from the public and private sector will share information and resources for growing and expanding and minority businesses domestically and globally during MED Week. This year, the conference will be held August 23 - 27, 2010 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. In addition to the general conference sessions, they will provide several other hands-on ways to empower minority businesses during MED Week pre-conference events, such as the 8(a) Mentor- Protégé Conference, enabling 8(a) participants to compete more successfully for government contracts, an International Trade Day at the South African Embassy, Global Networking Events and the MED Week Awards Gala, where the Nation's most successful MBE firms will be recognized for their contributions to the national economy and their community. Conference Speakers/ Notables include David Hinson, MBDA National Director, Ebrahim Rasool, South African Ambassador, Carol Thompson, Director, Office of Management and Technical Assistance for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Javier Palomarez, President & CEO, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and many more. 1
