The best performance is obtained by placing the left and right speakersat ear level, 6 - l0 feet apart. The speakers should be facing the listeners.. If you are mounting the speakers above or below ear level, pivot them

up or down to direct the sound towards the listeners.

. You can orient the speakers either horizontally or vertically withoutaffecting the sound quality.

CONNECTING AND ASSEMBLING THE SPEAKERSWARNING: Turn the amplifier's power OFF until you havecompleted all ofthe connections and have detennined that they arecorrect. (If the amp's AC pIuC is accessible we recommend thatyou unplug it fuom the waJI outlet to avoid accidental fitrn-on andpossible damage to the amplifier.)

1. In most cases you will be able to attach the mounting brackets directlyto the mounting surface. Run thespeaker wires from the ampli8erto the speaker locations andthrough the holes in the mount-ing brackets.

Note: To increase water resistanceand make installation easie4 thespeaker wire terminals are located onthe Mariner speakers'front panel. Besure to leave enough wbe at thespeaker location to feed through thetunnel in the speaker encloswe andconnect to the terminals on the front.

3. If the installation requires that the speakers be mounted vertically and

that they pivot in the vertical dimension (or be mounted horizontally

and piyot in the horizontal dimension), you must use the included

mounting bases in addition to the brackets:

3a. Run the speal<er wite through the hole in the wall half of the base.

3b. Attach the wall half of the base to the mounting surface using

hardware (not included) that is appropriate for the type ofsurface'

3c. Pass the speaker wire through the slot in the braclcet half of the base'

. Before attaching the bracket tothe base, pass the speaker wirethrough the hole in the centerofthe bracket.

. To adjust the speaker, loosen

the hex screw with the sup-plied allen wrench, pivot thebracket/base and tighten thehex screw.

5. Feed the speaker wires from the 5. Wirebrackets into the wire entry 9ntryg."--.t on the backs of th! gr?mTet

speakers, through the wire tun-nels and out the openings onthe speakerd front panels.

. The grommet forms a water-resistant seal around the speaker wire.

. Make sure there is enough slack in the wire to allow the speaker to

pivot on the bracket.

6. Slide the speakers onto the brackets until the locks snap into place.

. Pull enough wire through the front of the speaker to allow

connection to the terminals'

7. Corurect the speaker wires to the speakers'terminals:

a. Strip about 72" ofinsulation from each

conductor and twistthe strands togetheror tin them withsolder.

b. Press-down on thetops ofthe connectorsto open them.

c, Insert the wires intothe connectorholes as

shown.

d. Release the connectors.

. The binding post connectors can ac@pt wire uP to 14 gauge'

. Double-check that you connected ill of thb wires properly (amplifier

IMPORTANI: Be sure not to let any sfray'+' and '-' wires touch adtother. Toudting wires an cause a shott-circtrit that could ilamage

8. Fit the wiring terminal covers

into the recesses in the sPeakers'

front panels. The covers should

fit tightly, but can be removed

and replaced ifthe speakers need

to be disconnected.

. The Sonance logos can beremoved, rotated 90o andreplaced in their center-ing dimples. This main-tains the correct logo ori-entation on speakers thatare mounted vertically.

i0.If youre placing thespeakers on shelves with-out using the brackets, attach the 2 plastic inserts to the speaker's top and bottom ends so

they snap into place.

. If you wish to mount the speakers on their brackets at a later time youcan remove the insers by pulling-down the tabs behind the grille.

Note: Nl Sonance Madner speakers are compatiblewith Omnimount 20.5Seies qteaker brackets. The 20.5 seies includes several differeat mountsthat accommodate a wide range of different mounting rcquireraents. Formore information contact your Sonance Authorized dealet or go towww.omnimounLcom.

WIRE GAUGEExtra resistance in the speaker wire can make a speaker sound less

dynamic and reduce definition of the bass frequencies. In entreme cases,

it can even ailenuate high frequencies. Also, ampliEer power is wasted inwirewith errtra resistance, reducingyour sptem's maximum ou@ut level.

To prevent degrading sound quality, the total wire resistance should be

less than l0o/o of the speakert impedance. This means that for an 8-ohmspeaker, the total resistance of the wire should be less than 0.8 ohms.

Refer to the following table when selecting the proper wire gauge foryour system:

Distance ln Feet 50' 100' 150' 200' 250'. 300'

PAINTING THE SPEAKERS AND GRILLESAll Mariner speakers feature a tough polypropylene enclosure that can

be painted. Sonance recommends using a weather-resistant outdoorpaint and a spray gun to paint the Mariner speakers.

1.If theyhave alreadybeen installed, remove the grilles from the qpeakers.

2. To protect the speaker driver units during Painting, place the grilles ona piece of cardboard and trace around their outlines. Then cut the

cardboard just inside of the trace line and fit these "paint plugs" intothe speakers'bafles. (Be carefirl not to damage the driver components

while fitting the pfit plugs.)

INSTRUCTION MANUALSONANCE MARINER@ SERIESWEATH ER.R ESI STANT S PEAKERS

3. Paint the speakers the desired color according to the paintmanufacturer's instructions. Remove the paint plugs after the painthas thoroughly dried.

4. Remove the Sonance logos before painting the grilles. Paint the grilleseparately from the speaker using very thin paint (5:1 thinner:paintratio). Avoid plugging the grille holes with excess paint.

5. After the paint has thoroughly dried, re-attach the Sonance logosto the grilles and attach the grilles to the speakers.

PIVOTING THE SPEAKERSYou can rotate the speaker in the bracket todirect the sound towards the listeners.

1. Unlock the slide locks onthe speaker pivots bymoving them towards therear of the speaker.

2. Rotate the speakers to thedesired position.

3.Lock the slide locks bymoving them towards thefront ofthe speaker.
