4People have been cultivating lawns for centuries. Whereas about a hundred years ago only the very wealthy and the nobility could afford to maintain manicured lawns, today they can be found in almost every garden, public parks and a wide variety of playing surfaces. People have been trying

to find and breed the most suitable grasses for as long as they have been cultivating lawns. Over the course of the centuries, many grasses have been influenced by breeding. A few species have evolved into hundreds of varieties that all differ according to various properties. Some of the most important distinguishing features are the colour, the rate of growth, leaf structure and disease resistance. In addition to the features mentioned above, there are a great number of further differentiation possibilities. The individual varieties are described in various publications and classified by cultivation trials. However, in order to gain an comparison of the varieties yourself, a cultivation trial is essential. For many years Feldsaaten Freuden-berger has its own separate trial field in which such trials are made possible. Over several hundred square meters,

about 10 grass species with up to 30 different varieties are grown each year. In addition to individual varieties, dif-ferent mixtures are grown in order to test the compatability of the individu-al components to generate a suitable mixture. The trial results are used in the compo-sition of the grass mixtures to achieve the best results for the mixture's use.

By using these trials, Feldsaaten Freudenberger is continuously im-proving the grass mixtures in order to always maintain a position to offer the customer the right product. In ad-dition to lawns, a huge range of other plants are also grown in the trial field. In addition to flowers and herbs, there are a wide variety of agricultural crops demonstrated.

Coated Seed has been produced for over 30 years by Feldsaaten Freuden-berger. The first trials were carried out by the founder of the company, Mr. Siegfried Freudenberger. The aim was to improve germination and the initial development of the seedling. While only small quantities were initially pro-duced in improvised containers, today, Feldsaaten Freudenberger boasts

a modern production plant. It is able to cover different varieties with many different coats. The production tech-nology is continuously being optimised and the experience gained is constantly influencing further developments. The composition of Coated Seed is thus constantly being improved even further. Since 2005, different coating variants are available. In addition to

different ingredients, numerous col-ouring agents are available to colour the coat – allowing individual customer preference to be fulfilled. Furthermore, the coating thickness can also be varied for some varieties, so that the coat can be adapted depending on the intended use.

Classic Coated Seed is seed that is coated in vital and ger-mination-promoting substances. This coating is made up of various components, such as calcium carbonate to regulate pH values and talc. In addition to this, macro and micro-nu-trients are important components of Coated Seed. Coated seeds are easy to distinguish visually from conventional, un-coated seeds, without the shape of seeds being altered. The advantages of the coating apply both for individual seeds as well as for seed mixtures, regardless of whether they are sown manually or by machine. On extremely difficult surfac-es that are difficult to work with or are completely unworka-ble (e.g. embankments and other slopes), reparative tillage measures can be omitted.

The seed in each coated seed variant is vaccinated with humic acid and a plant strengthener. Thus, in every area of application, healthy and quick germina-tion is ensured.

In order to supply seedlings with optimal nutrients in the first days of life, Coated Seed Nutri contains fertiliser with the nutrients nitrogen and phosphate. These nutrients are immediately available to the seedling after the first roots have formed and guarantee rapid and healthy growth. The concentration of fertiliser is chosen so that each seedling receives the optimal quantity of nutrients.

The difference to conventional uncoated seed is clear to see within a few days: the crops coated with the nutrient coating display an significant growth advantage over the conventional uncoated seed and can thus take root much more quickly.

The seed is coated in an additional layer of start fertil-iser. This start fertiliser is immediately available to the seedling.

Tried and tested absorber technology has allowed us to coat seeds with a nutrient coating that stores moisture. The result is a unique power-seed that provides the seedling with vital nutrients and moisture from the very beginning, even during dry periods. The absorber material stores moisture when it comes into contact with water and then releases it to the seedling as needed. The nutrients contained in Coated Seedare dissolved in the water and then stored in the absorber as well. Coated Seed WASP increases the water absorption and storage capacity of the seed 100-fold. The swelling of the grain and the supply of moisture to the seedling are thus en-sured in the long term. Particularly under extreme conditions such as drought and heat, the additional water supply is an

enormous advantage thanks to the WASP technology. The absorber only loses its ability to store water after a few weeks and thus provides for a secure water supply until the seedling has grown.

Through the addition of a novel germination accelerator, the germination process is accelerated and the seed becomes es-tablished much more quickly. Through various natural growth aids and a novel active ingredient composition, the biological processes within the seed grain are accelerated, causing the germination process to begin earlier. The reduction in the overall germination period can save several days, depending

on the species. This process is especially advantageous in the case of strains with very long germination periods. A classic example of this is smooth-stalked meadow grass. It takes about four weeks from sowing to germination. In addition to the acceleration of the germination process, the seedlings’ growth process is optimised so that they grow more quickly than untreated seed.

ProSeed® is a completely new range of professional grass seed. This is not based on conventional evaluation lists. Instead, the latest varieties available from around the world are used. These include varieties that will only become available to the general public in a few years’ time. With the ProSeed® line, new mixtures that use only the highest quality seed are available to you. In order to keep the time to germination as short as possible, the PS 310, 320 and 322 mixtures use Coated Seed Speed, which significantly reduces the germination period. The particular aim was to gain new insights into growth be-haviour after germination. From day 9, the growth length of both subjects was determined. The traditional, non-treated seed could not withstand the extreme climatic conditions and thus dried out and died. BRIGADIER is a polyploid barres variety. The very smooth, heavy beets allows for easy clearing with little dirt, which can be done either by machine or manually. The enormous leaf mass remains fresh and healthy right up

until clearing. BRIGADIER offers a very tasty feed, which is characterised by its long shelf life and good dry matter content. The beet can be fed whole or chopped up.

Kleintiereinsaat (small animal seed) is suitable for all soils. It is a mixture of valuable fodder plants with a bal-anced ratio of clover to forage grasses, which are well suited as fresh feed or for hay production. The energy rich

feed forms a good nutritional basis and promotes animal health. The clo-ver seeds are coated with a rhizobac-teria-inoculated coating, thus result-ing in natural nitrogen fertilisation of plants immediately after germination.
