Mr. Melton’s Art Classes
LaVille Jr-Sr High School 12
3-D CLASSES For the Ceramics class, students have been making projects to give to their mothers for Mother’s Day. Students looked online for ideas and made drawings of what they wanted to create. I hope all of the ceramics class kids’ mothers get their gifts! In the Sculpture class, students are making abstract plaster sculptures. Students learned about the art of Henry Moore, looked at his work online, drew a sketch of the sculpture they wished to create and then created a sculpture like something he did. All work will be painted and have a protective coat applied to them. Projects will be on display in the library.
JUNIOR HIGH The 7th and 8th grade art classes drew portraits of famous Americans. Students had the option to pick from a list of famous Americans that included businessmen, frontiersmen, entertainers, presidents, and many more. Drawings were done with pencil and had to incorporate dark, light and middle values in their work. Students were encouraged to mix and blend to make their images look more lifelike and real. Each figure had to be drawn to scale and be drawn to look as close as possible as the original. Students had to write an essay about their famous American to be read to the class and then displayed in the library with their matted drawing. We also read and learned about their historical importance in American history.
2-D CLASSES The drawing students drew portraits of Native Americans. Each drawing student signed up to draw a Native America and found a picture online to draw. Drawings were done in just pencil and had to have a variety of values to show form and make their portraits look realistic as possible. Students also had to do research and write an essay on their Native American and present it to the class. Drawings turned out great and are on display in the library with their essays.
Painting students got to paint canvas panels in class. Each student received a canvas panel and had to come up with an idea to paint. Students had the choice of using acrylic, oil or tempera paint.
Various students also had a chance to paint a wooden cutout fish to be decorated up and displayed in and around Lakeville. The wooden fish have and are really turning out great. The kids are pretty proud. We hope to do many more.
