Executive Head teacher: Mr C Cole Head of School: Mrs S Voisey Thought for the week: Never, never, never give up – Sir Winston Churchill We have been lucky enough to enjoy another week of spring weather. The blossom is growing on the trees and spring flowers are popping up everywhere. We have a very full newsletter this week as there has been lots going on and a lot coming up. Please take the time to read it – we welcome your comments and suggestions. The year 6 children have been busy working on their mock SATS this week and hope that their hard work shows in their results. Thank you for your patience and understanding with regard to the roadworks taking place outside of the school. We are confident that the end result will help make the road safer for all. Could you please take the time to read the notice over the page regarding the summer fair. With your help we could make this our best summer fair yet!

Lost Property
If your child has lost an item of school clothing, please ask them to see Mrs Dyer and/or check the lost property bin. We currently have several items of clothing in lost property. Please remember to put your childs name in every item of clothing so that if it is lost, it can be identified and returned to them.
Cross Country Competition
We are delighted with the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our Cross Country Team this week. Although the sun had been out all day on Monday, once we got to the course at Abbotsfield School, the weather became much colder for both runners and spectators. Although we had spent many hours running around our own school field in preparation for the event, the actual course had much steeper banks to overcome. Our girls’ team were first to compete, having to run a total of 1700m. We fielded a very young team of Year 4 and Year 5 girls, who ran their very best against older children. Our fastest to finish was Renee Swinton in Year 5 who came 26th, which was fantastic for her first time competing in this event, and the team finished in 10th place overall. The boys team, which was made up of children in Year 4, 5 and 6 also made a fantastic debut, with the fastest runner being Abdirakar Hassan, who finished a brilliant 11th. Overall the boys ran 2000m and finished in 6th place. A huge thank you to all the children who gave up their time to run laps round the school field, their parents who cheered them on so enthusiastically and Miss Walton and Miss Hardie who stood in the middle of the cold field, carrying out their marshalling duties. A final thank you to the Ridgewell family for providing the children with bananas to eat after the competition. The children’s behaviour was exemplary and we are very proud of them all. Roll on next year when we hope to use the experience we gained this year to do even better.
RUN A MILE FOR SPORTS RELIEF AND LAUREL LANE BAKE OFF
On Friday is a non uniform day for Sports Relief – please send your children in their favourite sports clothes and donate £1 to a worthy cause. If you have an entry for the bake off, please bring it to the hall during Breakfast Club, or the Front Reception area by 10.00 am on Friday morning. Mrs Voisey will be judging the cakes at lunch time. Please remember no nuts. All entries will be sold after school in the hall with proceeds going to Sports Relief.
Football News Our football team played the final match of the season on Wednesday against Cowley St. Laurence. We weren’t lucky enough to win but the team coach said that they "played very well and the children were excellent!” The children have worked very hard this season and it is great to see such great team spirit! After school football is now finished for the moment and will be replaced by another activity, which will be announced in due course. However we cannot wait for next season!...

WRITER OF THE WEEK I am playing this music, yet it brings tears to my eyes. I am looking back on all of my memories and none of them are lies. Then it appears that my wife is sitting next to me, and she can always open my heart up with a very special key. I ask her why does she have to go. But she tells me it’s better if I don’t know. Then she starts to fade away even though I really want her to stay. Then I move on to a different memory, me and my brother in the army. One moment he was there. The next ‘’BANG’’ he wasn’t there. It had to happen to someone who matters to me. But I want him back, ill beg ill plead. But look here comes a happy one, and here comes out the sun. I was given this toy, now I’m full of joy to specially give it to you. You played with it all day and all night. But let me just tell you, it was a beautiful sight. Now my grandson has sat next to me. I look him in the eyes very deeply and I know it’s time for my memories to leave. I have finally realized I am happy right now, I just really don’t know how!
