It's a long and bumpyroad for drivers, storesSTREET, FROM lA F..JOT d o e s n ~ tofferof rubble. Pedestrians hur- . compensation fordIe over wans an d scamper across th e street.

At night, the mess completely takes , over th eroad, which closes , fo rmore intense work. Policeofficers hi t their bluelights to swerve traffic toNortheast Second Avenue.
TOUGH O N STORES
When it 's all finished,th e road will ' be smoothand flowing an d beautiful.
Meanwhile, it 's killingbusiness.
"Horrible," said Victori a Newton-Dunn, wh ohas seen business declineat an outdoor furniturestore, STOAI OutdoorConcept, because of th econs truction.
"It 's so bad that wecould get ou t of business."

It's similar to what hasbeen done on northernstretches of Biscayne Boulevard in past years.
" I t ' s an overa l limprovement of the road,"project spokeswomanMaria Palacios said.
But it's painful f ~ rcommerce.
At the furniture store, sales have plummeted inrecent months, said N ewton-Dunn, the store's manager. She says she looksaround somet imes and
'there's no t a customer insight.
And no wonder. Withall the construction, it 'stough to turn off the mainstreet or even fInd a breakin the work to enter.
