Launch of the Careers Hub and our Year 7 Aspirations Ambassadors

Wednesday 28 April saw the long awaited launch of our Careers Hub and the appointment of our first ever

Aspirations Ambassadors. Year 7 students were invited to formally apply for this prestigious position. Mr Lloyd

Richards, Head of Tudor House and Strategic Lead on student aspirations, was very impressed by the quality

of the application forms completed by our Year 7. John Ambrose, the Strategic Lead Director at Complete

Careers (virtual appearance) along with Mr Hardy, officially opened the Careers Hub. John Ambrose posed

many questions: What is a career? Where are the jobs? What does Lincolnshire have to offer? What is the

Careers Hub for? to the assembled newly appointed Aspirations Ambassadors. Mr Hardy challenged the

students to not only raise their aspirations, but, also those of their peers to be the best they could possibly be.

John also offered his support for the Careers Hub by donating ‘The Bonkers Book of Jobs’, of which he is a

co-author, and also the brand new ‘Fulfilling Futures - Greater Lincolnshire’ produced resource.

Personal Development Day

Our fifth Personal Development Day of the academic year saw our Year 7 involved in their Snack Bar Idol

enterprise challenge. Re-worked due to Covid 19 restrictions, this meant students could not use IT or present to

the whole of Year 7 and local Employers in the Main Hall. However, these restrictions did not impact on the quality

of the work produced. Using Microsoft Teams to beam the presentations into the Year 7 form rooms, the

representatives from each form performed to a panel of judges that included Mrs Ransome, Mrs Watson and

Assistant Head Teacher Miss Davis, in a socially distanced Library. Students and tutors could be heard cheering

their representative on from their form rooms. Each group offered something unique in their presentation and

made it very difficult for the judges. Individual trophies and a gift were handed to the winning students along with

the Snack Bar Idol Trophy and a framed photograph of the winning team with their form tutor.

Miss Earnshaw was denied a record breaking third win when her form was pushed down into second place by 2

points by 7W/JW.

Well done to everyone.

Sessions on Happiness and Well Being, Respect, Gender and SRPA Voices were delivered to all year groups, where one of

our own students spoke about his religion and culture.

Year 8 looked at the Risks of sexting and managing requests or pressure to send images. Art took the opportunity to showcase

their subject to the Year 8 with a Still Life Drawing activity.

Year 9 took part in a session on The Risks of Sexting. Maths showcased their subject to Year 9 with a session on Cryptography

and Ciphers.

Year 10 worked with the University of Nottingham on Building Confidence and Resilience. They also took part in a session

on how social media may distort, misrepresent or target information in order to influence beliefs and opinions.

Year 11 looked at evaluating readiness for parenthood and identifying positive parenting qualities and took part in a House

Rounder’s Competition.

Year 12/13 had their Independent Living Skills Day taking part In sessions on Basic Car Maintenance, Handy DIY Skills,

payslips, tax and looking after your money, Flying the Nest which included renting, bills, council tax, registering at a doctor’s

surgery, and Domestic Skills which included ironing, sewing on buttons and cleaning windows. In the afternoon, Year 12/13

took part in the Independent Living Skills challenge or Brand or Bargain, Duvet Challenge, A-Z Careers Challenge, A-Z Skills

Challenge and Myth Pong.

Joint Second 6W/SP & 6T/GI.

Aspirations Ambassadors Our newly appointed Aspirations Ambassador have been presented with their badges in their house colours

and received an Aspirations Ambassador certificate. Their role is to:

Promote the use of and events in the Careers Hub

Support other students with raising their own aspirations

Plan career and aspiration activities

Plan and organise careers house competitions

To support the running of the careers hub at lunchtimes

Lead on Unifrog activities on PD Days

Since their appointments the students have attended four lunchtime meetings where they have started to

plan a Careers House Competition and develop their role as Year 7 Unifrog specialists.

We will be looking to increase our Aspirations Ambassadors after half term as we recruit year 8’s to the role.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS UK:

Virtual Work Experience program specifically for Year 11. We have some big companies taking part in the

programme including; PwC, Sky, IBM, Capgemini, EY, HSBC, GSK and Berkeley Group. We have a few

more companies lined up but are just waiting to confirm their participation. We have tried to cover all sectors

of interest and each company workshop will be skills based as well as opportunity focused/next steps after

school.

The Virtual Work Experience will be running from 7, 8 & 9 June, 9am - 3pm every day. 9am - 10am

each day will be led by Young Professionals and will be skills based sessions (looking at CV's, Interviews,

Assessment Centres, LinkedIn/Networking etc...) 10am - 11am, 11am - 12pm, 1pm - 2pm, 2pm - 3pm will

be employer insight/workshop sessions and lunch will be between 12pm - 1pm. All of this will be online via

Zoom webinar. All students that take part in the full 3 days will get a certificate on completing the programme

as well as a reference to put on their CVs. There will be 2 individual based projects that will be set to work

on in their own time (out of school hours) which will form part of their Virtual Work Experience interactive

GOLDSMITHS YOUNG WRITER COMPETITIONS: Do you fancy yourself as the next young

writer?

Become the next Young Writer (a short story writing competition for creative writers), Young Columnist (for journalists with a historical angle), or Young Anthropologist (for writing about identity and culture). All three competitions have a £1,000 first prize, and two runner-up prizes of £50. All shortlisted entries will also receive a small prize.

The day will give an oversight into the different technology programmes Morgan Stanley Offers, as well as giving the participants the opportunity to take part in interactive challenges, panel sessions and career workshops.
