ZERO TOLERANCE OF SMOKING AT HOSPITAL ENTRANCES CAMPAIGNLAUNCHED

Smoking on hospital grounds were all sick of it. Thats the message fromScotlands largest health board as it launches the countrys most ambitious everzero tolerance to smoking on hospital grounds campaign.

!S "reater "lasgow and #lyde $!S""#% has today unveiled rebrandedhospital entrances with bright red obtrusive ground hatchings and giant posters

creating no smoking zones which will be hard for smokers to ignore.

Smokefree wardens are also being phased in on our sites where they will patrolthe grounds to reinforce the zero tolerance message when people are seenbreaching our no smoking policy.

The bold campaign to put a stop to the scourge of second hand smoke on ourhospital grounds has been widely welcomed by doctors& nurses& patients& visitorsand 'S! Scotland.

Scotland& said+ This campaign sends a clearmessage that tobacco and tobacco smoke are unwelcome substances on healthpremises because of the damage they do to people. ,e need to work hard in Scotlandto protect the ne*t generation from this lethal& addictive substance which has claimedso many lives and which undermines people-s health.

,e also need to support smokers to uit tobacco where possible& and if not then toreduce the harm to themselves and those around them as much as possible.

through plumes of smoke when entering our hospital sites. 3n fact on the "43 sitestaff even submitted a petition calling for more to be done to stop people smokingon our grounds. 3n response we have launched this ambitious campaign with thevery clear and simple message that smoking on our grounds and at our entrancessimply will not be tolerated.

1ur hospital wards are filled with people suffering from smoking related diseaseand our zero tolerance approach is essential in improving the health and wellbeingof the population we serve providing a healthy and safe environment for ourpatients& visitors and staff. ,e are also able to provide very effective support topeople to help them to stop smoking through our e*cellent stop smoking services.
