Energy situation
The total energy consumption - 50 833 GWh, including Latvian electricity consumption in 2012 - 7042 GWh;
around 72% of electricity consumed was produced in Latvia;
In 2012 the 33.4% increase in the amount of electricity from RES
Produced energy in Latvia
Hydro electro stations produce 3457 gwh.
Wind electro stations produce 50 gwh.
Biomass (wood, wood waste) stations produce 4 gwh.
Biogas electro stations produce 44 gwh.
and total they produce 3555 gwh.
Energy from renewable sources in Latvia:
· Wind power
· Biomass, biofuels, biogas
· Hydropower
· Solar energy
· Geothermal energy and heat pumps
Renewable energy resource which obtains increasing popularity in Latvia
Latvia gaining increasing popularity Woodchips
Woodchips - logging wastes,
which was originally was used
to get heat, but now it can be used to get electricity-
cheap cost,availability,
heat output.

Wind resources in Latvia
The biggest wind farm is «Grobiņa» near Liepaja on the Baltic sea.
There are 33 wind generations, power 600 kw, one generator height is 77 m. In 2002 when the park started to work, it was the biggest farm in the Baltic States.
Biogas
Situation on. 30.06.2013.
Biogas as a renewable energy source:
50 working equipment, including
6 - municipal solid waste landfills,
3 - production and domestic waste water,
41 - agricultural biogas plants
The average size of agricultural biogas plants - 0.93 MW (total of 38,26 MW)

Solar energy
Average global radiation gain Latvian territory is 1000 kWh/m2 - 1200 kWh/m2 per year. It can be concluded that the use of solar energy to electricity pay off in Latvia only with high-efficiency technologies and potentially lower capital investment. Solar collectors for hot water production of households have already proved their efficiency in Latvian.

Geothermal energyGeothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth. Thermal energy is the energy that determines the temperature of matter.
In Latvia this type of energy is used only in private sector mainly heat production. This type of energy is very expensive process of setting, but the use is relativity simple.
