I understand that academic integrity creates a strong academic and ethical environment at Milton High School. pledge that I will be personally responsible for upholding the values of academic integrity by being honest and notolerating academic dishonesty.World Language Recovery Policy

Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from low or failing tests (or major projects at the discretion ofthe teacher) will be allowed when students preparatory work ( 90% homework av. and recovery packets) has beencompleted to the satisfaction of the instructor. Students should arrange to recover the grade within three (3) weeks of

receiving the grade. The recovery materials will be related to course objectives but may be modified with differentquestions. A student who fails to attend an arranged recovery may only have an additional opportunity to recover at thediscrection of the teacher. The teacher will take the average of the original grade and the performance on the recovery

    opportunity as a replacement grade.

Recovery PolicyI have a liberal recovery policy towards summative assessments. If you fail an exam please come and see me and

you can retake the exam as many times as necessary to pass it. That said, all make-ups will be done BEFORE school inportable 119 at 7:45am and the student is REQUIRED to talk to me the day before he/she comes in (lest I have a meetingalready scheduled and also so I can have the exam prepared). Formative assessments do not need to be made up andrecovery will be via extra credit. Crustula makeup will be done on an individual basis.

Help HoursMonday-Friday 7:45am-8:15am; 3:30pm-4pm (please contact me in advance)

Please feel free to come to me with any questions about materials, translation difficulties, and the like. I wantevery student in my class to become a successful Latin scholar. However, if you want help from me you must be in class

every day, completing your homework assignments, participating in class and making some effort to study outside of theclassroom. Coming to me is not a replacement of the work assigned in class; instead it is supposed to be a supplement.

Make-up work please see the student handbook.

Crustula:You will receive a homework/class participation grade of 100 points each six weeks. In order to receive these

points you will need to collect crustula, which are worth 5 points each for the first 20 you collect, and then 1 point foreach additional one. You may collect these for completing translation assignments as homework or on the board, as wellas for other activities. Just as crustulacan be earned, they can also be taken awayif you come to class unprepared (e.g.

no textbook) or leaving class for any reasons including going to the bathroom. You will turn in these crustulaat the endof each six week section, and your homework/participation grade will be formed accordingly. YOU MUST KEEP UP

WITH YOUR OWN CRUSTULA. IF YOU LOSE THEM, YOU WILL HAVE TO START COLLECTING THEM ALLOVER AGAIN.

Notebooks:You are responsible for bringing a 3 ring binder to class with you each day. Not having this binder will cost

crustula. This binder must include copies of the English and the Latin for every translation we do as daily or homework. There will be 6 sections in the notebook clearly labeled as: information sheets, grammar notes, vocabulary,worksheets/quizzes, mythology/culture/history, and translations. Notebook checks are never announced but will happenfrequently, successful exhibition of a notebook with appropriate and updated information will earn crustula. No notebook

on a check will cost crustula.

Formative Assessments (quizzes):Quizzes will be given almost daily. They are not weighted very heavily. However there is a very large amount of

vocabulary to cover and only daily assessment can adequately prepare you. There will essentially be 2-3 vocabulary

quizzes a week, a grammar quiz, a culture quiz, and one translation/chunking quiz. At least one vocabulary quiz eachweek will be cumulative. There will be daily extra credit available for each assessment aligned with the assessment

content, this will vary from worksheets and flash cards to online gaming. Because of the frequency of formativeassessments, missed work will generally not be counted in the average: i.e. I will simply drop formative assessmentsmissed for EXCUSED absences. Unexcused absences will still need to make up missed quizzes.

Summative Assessments (tests):There will be 4 tests in the class each semester, not including the final. The first test will be on the first stage of

the Cambridge textbook, the next test on the following 4-5 stages, and the third test will be on the final stages as well ascumulative material from the first 2 tests. There may be an additional grammar-intensive examination as well. Thecounty-wide final assessment will cover the width and breadth of the semesters material.

    Research Paper:

There will be a research paper exploring the Roman literature. This paper will be 4-5 pages long, follow MLAcitation rules, and require a minimum of 5 sources. The paper will be an ongoing project for the class, with firmly

    established timetables and specific expectations.

Parent Contact:I believe that communication is key in securing academic success for all students. The best way to contact me is
