Youth Pipe Band to Compete in Glasgow, Scotland CAPITAL REGION – Twenty-five members of the Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band are returning to “The World’s” for the third time to compete in The World Pipe Band Championships on August 11. Coming from around the Capital District as well as the Northeast, the Band is strongly positioned to qualify for the Final Round and make the prize list. The Band will have two competitions in Scotland before the World Championships. The Band is comprised of local and regional talent, with some members traveling from New Jersey and Massachusetts in or-der to participate in this unique pipe band and represent the United States at “Bagpiping’s Olympics.” The Scotia Glenville Pipe Band is a non-profit organization and donations are al-ways appreciated to help the band pay for the trip to appear on Glasgow Green in August. In Scotland, the Band will be able to compete against juvenile bands from around the world – a rarity on this side of the Atlantic. In the United States, there are few juvenile bands – whose members can only be 18 years old or younger – so on summer weekends these teenagers compete against adults head to head. For more information on the Scotia Glenville Pipe Band, visit the website at www.sgpipeband.com. For more information on the World Pipe Band Championships, visit their website at www.theworlds.co.uk. PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. L. McC.

AnabelleDomestic Shorthair/Mix,
1 Year Old, Female, Black/OrangeHowdy, I’m Anabelle, a petite tortoiseshell girl. I like to be petted and
cuddled on your lap ‘cause I’m a friendly puss. Not long ago I was struggling on my own as a stray. Finding food was hard, and one of
my canines got broken. It sure was tough out there in Albany. This is why I’m a bit skinny. If I seem a little shy at first it’s because
of all I’ve been through. Once I get petted, I relax. I’m such a good girl - won’t you take me home?
I’m Basil and I can’t wait to meet you! My previous owners had to give me up because they discovered they
were unable to take care of me. I lived with kids and other cats. I will miss them, but I am looking forward to
finding my forever home. I am a big 5 year old white boy with a stylish grey cap and solid grey, bushy tail that has a tiny kink at the tip. I love sitting in a windowsill during the day, and it’s really nice to be able to curl up at the foot of a bed at night. I don’t mind the occasional bath, but please don’t rub
my belly. I love brushing and petting, and am very affectionate when I warm up.

(NewsUSA) - Bald or poorly maintained tires won’t get you very far when it comes to driving on slippery road-ways. With improper equip-ment and maintenance, slick surfaces from rain storms are a major threat to safety on the road.
Take control by following this advice from your friends at Firestone Complete Auto Care on ways to prepare yourself and your vehicle for possible wet weather.
Discover a Better Ride on Wet Roads * During wet weather condi-tions, drive slowly and keep in mind that stopping distanc-es will be longer than usual. Stopping on a wet road can take up to four times the stop-ping distance of a dry road.
* Rainwater that mixes with oil or grime on the streets can cause slippery conditions that may result in unexpected skidding
* Drive smoothly. To main-tain control of your vehicle,
try to avoid jerky, abrupt movements when braking, accelerating or turning.
* Check your tires at least once a month. This includes proper rotation, inflation, re-pair and replacement.
* In many areas of the coun-try, the snow and ice of win-ter leave roads in bad shape. Hitting a pothole can damage your tire and/or the wheel of your vehicle. The sharp im-pact can cause immediate tire or wheel failure or internal damage that can lead to tire failure weeks later. Keeping your tires properly inflated will help reduce pothole dam-age and other road hazards.
Here’s an extra tip about pot-holes:
* If you do have to hit a pot-hole, avoid braking during the impact. Instead, attempt to brake before impact and release just prior to contact-ing the pothole. Braking dur-ing impact sets up the tire and wheel assembly for a “solid hit” against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tire is rolling, rather than skidding, over the pothole.
Save yourself money on ex-pensive repairs by following these tips to help keep your vehicle running in tip-top shape.
Check your air conditioning system before the summer heat hits to make sure that it seems to be cooling effectively. An annual full-vehicle inspection, including the air conditioning system, may help avoid costly repairs.
Check your vehicle’s fluid levels. Check the engine oil and coolant level when the engine is cold. Once your vehicle is warmed up, check your transmission fluid and power steering fluid. If any fluid is low, add only enough to bring the indicator to “full” -- never overfill. Have your Firestone Complete Auto Care automotive technician regularly check your vehicle’s brake fluid level and condition.
Do not overload your vehicle. Overloading creates excessive heat inside your tires and can cause tire failure, which could result in vehicle damage and serious injury. Remember that you and your passengers count toward the total recommended ve-hicle weight.
To get the best fuel economy while traveling, be aware of the following:
1. Due to vehicle aerodynamics, it can be more economical to run your air conditioner than to cruise with windows open. 2. When possible, maintain a constant speed to reduce strain on your vehicle’s systems. If it’s safe to do so and traffic is not too heavy, use the cruise control setting per your owner’s manual directions. 3. Do not let your vehicle idle for extended periods; restarting your engine uses less fuel than keeping your vehicle running. 4. Keep your tires properly inflated; under-inflated tires can lower fuel economy. 5. Use the recommended grade of gasoline specified by your vehicle manufacturer. Mid-grade or premium fuels are unnecessary unless they are recommended.
