Welcome to Szeged at, the first edition of the 2018 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup Series.

Szeged is looking forward to hosting the most prominent sprint canoe athletes in 2018, in succession to last year’s fantastic competition. This World Cup will be the second most important stage before next year’s Olympic qualification World Championships for 2020 Tokyo. We do hope that you are all armed with the ben-eficial experience of 2017 and looking forward to getting rid of the cobwebs and great racing in Szeged again.

It is always a great recognition and honour for the City of Szeged and the Hungar-ian Canoe Federation as well to welcome members of our canoeing family at the National Olympic Canoe-Kayak Centre.

We are pleased to inform you that 62 countries from six continents have accepted our invitation and sent their entries to the World Cup. We sincerely hope that you will be satisfied with the performance of the Organising Committee, with the hos-pitality and the competitions as well.

You probably know the facilities at the regatta course quite well but we will try to deepen that knowledge for the competition with this publication. The up-to-date information on the following pages will hopefully assist you during your stay.

The Accreditation Centre has moved to a new location and is housed on the 1st floor at the back of the grandstand.Team leaders are kindly requested to contact the Accreditation Centre directly upon arrival. After having paid their dues the team leaders may collect the necessary vouchers to occupy the team accommodation. This is also the point where you will have to pay the transfer and boat rental fee. You will not be accredited unless you have paid all your dues.All participants of the competition must be accredited. No access to the course is possible without an accreditation card.Each team will receive one parking pass (sticker), irrespective of the number of peo-ple on the team. The sticker is valid for a maximum 9-seated minibus to the parking lot behind the boat storage building.Before leaving the accreditation centre the team leaders are asked to leave their and the team headcoach’s cell phone number so that they can be reached anytime during the competition and are also asked to sign the travel info form with the official departure time of their team.

Meals

Participants of the World Cup have lunch at the regat-ta course in the Participants’ Mess Tent exclusively. The Mess Tent is open between 11:00 and 14:30. The barcode on the accreditation card serves to check the entitlement to the service so wear it all time!Dinner is served in the hotels where the teams are accommodated. Everyone is asked to wear the ac-creditation card at dinner, too.

Transportation

Competition information service

The information centre for the team leaders is located in the Athletes’ Zone. Each team will receive the initial information package from the hostesses at the Accred-itation Centre upon arrival. During the competition the staff at the Competition Information Booth will provide information not merely on the start lists and results but on the event in general as well.

Crew change

You can find the corresponding form at the Compe-tition Information Booth. You can submit your filled in form by putting it in the box marked ‘Crew Change’ at the Competition Information Booth and signing your name and time of submission not just on the form but on the paper next to the box as well.

Para athletes can do this on 16th May between 9:00 and 12:00.

Sprint athletes can do this on 16th May between 9:00 and 19:00.

After the deadline you will have to contact the Chief Official. Mr Frank Garner directly.

Paracanoe Classification

Classification of paracanoe athletes will take place at the regatta course on the ground floor of the VIP Build-ing on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday between 9:00 and 18:00. For the detailed schedule please look for Mr John Edwards at the ICF Office on the venue. The dedicated paracanoe pontoon will be permitted to be used only for paracanoe athletes during the classifica-tion period and the whole competition.

Medical Care

The following medical services are available for all official participants of the Championships: doctor on duty, hos-pital and clinic assistance. A medical centre will operate at the regatta course with physiotherapy, ambulance and first aid service. The costs above the regular first aid, ambulance and physiotherapeutic services are to be covered by your medical insurance policy, the Or-ganising Committee is not liable to cover your expenses in connection with hospital, dental or any other medical treatment.

Boat Storage, Boat rental

Covered boat racks are provided either in the boat storage building or in the tent in the Athletes’ Zone.

IMPORTANT!A national sprint pre-qualification race will take place from 10th to 12th May. The participating teams will use the whole boat storage building during the time.The OC kindly ask the early arriving teams (UZB, BRA, ARG, CHI, USA, KOR, JPN, KAZ) to load their boats temporary at the boat storage tent (this is not your final allocation) until the end (12th May 19:00) of the com-petition. You will be able to take your final place in the boat storage house after this time.

All other teams (not mentioned above) will be able to take their final place upon arrival.

Thanks for your cooperation.

You are requested to take your trailers to the designat-ed trailer parking area after unloading the boats un-til 22:00 on the day of your trailer’s arrival. No trailer movement will be permitted on the competition days. On the final day (Sunday) trailers will be permitted to be moved from 16:00 in the afternoon.

Those who have required rental boats will have to pres-ent not just the voucher that was given to them at the accreditation centre after settling the balance, but also a security deposit in cash when receiving the rental boat(s) at the regatta course. The security deposit is 200 Euros for single boats, 400 Euros for double boats and 800 Euros for K4s and C4s. The security deposit will be fully refunded (minus anything missing from the boat(s)) when you return them intact

Start Numbers And Body Numbers

The body numbers to be worn during the whole du-ration of the competition can be collected by the team leaders at the accreditation. The start numbers can be collected one hour before the race at the designated place in the athletes’ zone. The team leader must leave a deposit (Euro 50) upon collecting the start number for the first time. The deposit will be refunded at the end of the competition when the team leader has returned all the start numbers.

Id Control

The competitors can embark only from the designated place before the race where their boats, body numbers, starting numbers and accreditation cards are checked.

Second (Post Race) Boat Control

After the race the competitors must disembark at the designated place where their boat will go under con-trol. In addition to calling their lane numbers aloud black numbers on white plates will also be displayed.Sprint Final A boatcontrol procedure will be dif-ferent to serve sport-presentation endeavours. You can find more information about the whole proce-dure in the article “IMPORTANT CHANGES and NEW SPORT PRESENTATION ELEMENTS” below.

Doping Control

The selected competitors are subject to doping control conforming to the relevant regulations at the designated place.

Media Service

After each race athletes who are required by media for an interview will be called. They need to disembark at the same pontoon which is used for the second boat control.

Official Training Sessions

Competitors are requested to use the area behind the dividing isle. The regatta course can be reached through the cuts above the 500m and 1000m start and paddle down in the direction of the finish tower.It is absolutely forbidden to use motor boats during the official training, coaches, however, are permitted to fol-low the competitors by bike on the service path along the course. The OC provides lifeguard service during the training sessions.During the training time the competitors will have the opportunity to test the starting machine.

Please note that the following competitions are held prior to the world cup:

10th -12th May Hungarian Sprint pre-qualification race13th May Hungarian Dragonboat Championship14th – 15th May ICF Women Canoe Cup and National Marathon Qualification.

It is forbidden to use the race course during these times. Competitors are requested to use the area be-hind the dividing isle for training.

Reception For The Team Leaders

*Please note that Auris, Dóm, Kata, Mozart, Soleil, Szent János, Tisza hotels are within walking distance to Art Hotel therefore there will be no shuttle service provided from these places.

Cycling At The Venue

Because of people on the narrow pavement who attend the World Cup and because of the nature of the TV coverage it is absolutely forbidden to follow the races on bicycles between the 200 meter start tower and the grandstand. The only good news we can give to the coaches is that in one year time there will be a bridge built connecting the dividing island and the road running thereon. Among others it will be built for this purpose.

Drone For Tv Broadcast

The ICF will be experimenting with the tv broadcast us-ing drones. The drones may pass in front of the boats and could be in front of the boats during the race at a suitable height. The drones will not be overhead of the boats so that the safety of the athletes is ensured. The drones being used have been tested extensively. It could greatly enhance the view of our sport. We look for-ward to the feedback on this development from athletes.

Another thing we are experimenting with is a drone-cam-era flying really close to the athletes once they crossed the finish line. Please cooperate with us trying to create a new view to present our beautiful sport to the world. Please help us educating the athletes that trying to reach the drone with a paddle is not as much fun to the pilot as it may seem at first. Don’t worry, the drone will never fly close to anyone on the actual race course, only beyond the finish line.

Internet

Wireless internet service will be available in the vicinity of the regatta course free of charge. The name of the network is szeged2018 and no password is necessary to have access to it

Victory Ceremonies

All athletes (wearing their national outfit and shoes) to-gether with the team leaders of the winning nations are requested to report to the meeting point at the Finish Tower 10 minutes prior to the officially scheduled victo-ry ceremony at the latest. We have a very tight sched-ule combined with live TV therefore we kindly ask you to fully comply with this request. Victory ceremonies will start at the officially scheduled time sharp.

Important Changes And New Sport Presentation Elements

Pre race sport presentation elementsThe following instructions apply only to Sprint Final A races, all others have to follow the usual procedure.

We would like to present the athletes more effectively on television and on local led displays before the start. The OC will set up a floating gate on the water in the vicinity of the ID control pontoon. All boats have to go through the gate one by one (looking at the camera,-waving) after leaving the ID control pontoon. Only ONE boat can cross the floating gate at a time. Athletes must follow the instructions of the coordiators on the pontoon to avoid mixing up. The camera is not live. We are going to cut the footages during the time between embarkation and the actual race start. The edited foot-ages will be played with ICF-designed graphic template before the race start.

Post race sport presentation elementsThe following instructions apply only to Sprint Final A races, all others have to follow the usual boat control procedure.

All sprint FINAL „A” medallists (1-3) must disembark on the pontoon (called: celebration pontoon) located next to the medal ceremony stand immediately after finish-ing the race. There will be a display on the finish tower which will show the first three finishing lane number. It will help the athletes to decide which disembarkation pontoon to paddle to. The athletes appearing in the first three lanes must turn and paddle to the celebra-tion pontoon, all others return to the Athlete’s Zone. If “PhotoFinish” text appears on the display the athletes wait until the finishing judges decide who are the top three. The result will appear on the display after the

judges have decided.

Disembarkation on the celebration pontoon:Short interviews by the ICF TV will be recorded right after disembarkation where trainers/family members can greet the medallists at first hand. Right thereafter

the athletes can walk away passing by the fans sitting on the grandstand. ITO’s will weigh the boats during this time.

Pre-race procedure for better sports (TV) presentationThe following instructions apply to all units in all events.

Only athletes for the next race start will be allowed to en-ter the starting areas 200-300m, 500-600m, and 1000-1100m. They will be called to the starting area 4-5min before the start. Once they have entered the starting area, they paddle towards their designated start boot and do not turn around.ITO/NTO will be placed at the beginning of the starting area – 300m, 600m, or 1100m to control the boats flow.Please advise athletes to Follow the instructions from ITOs, and do not enter the starting area if they are not invited and they are not part of the next race.

5000 m eventsThe 5000 m events will run with portage. 5000m races will start at the southern end of the course. It will con-sist of 5 laps (1 long and 4 short ones). The first turning point will be at around 900m up the course. The long lap is followed by four shorter laps meaning that the upper turning point (3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th) will be at around 250m while the lower (2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th) turning point at the finish line. Portages will be at the 1st and 3rd short laps.For the portages the following marathon rules apply:Competitors may only portage at points designated by the race organisers.All competitors shall disembark in the defined area, carry their craft around the portage and embark in the defined area.

Only sprint boat weight is allowed to be used.

Helping and drinking are not allowed at portage.
