2C have had an exciting, interesting and action packed second semester. We have been busy in Maths learning about measurement, space and geometry and data. We enjoyed measuring, manipulating 3D objects and drawing graphs and tallies. Our favourite Maths activities are the Count Me In Too games we play every morning. The Environmental Maths day last week was so fun and at every activity, we practised a different Maths skill. In Literacy, we have been learning to write expositions and some of our writing samples can be read in this newsletter. We enjoy giving both sides of an argument and trying to persuade each other to agree with our opinions. We are reading Roald Dahl books in shared reading and we love these hilarious stories! We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion in Term 3 to the Australian Reptile Park where we had the opportunity to observe many fascinating creatures and get up close and personal with them. Now, we have moved on to learning about our local Aboriginal community and celebrations in Human Society and its Environment lessons. In art, we have been learning about the different techniques you can use to model clay. We have made snakes and snails by coiling and pots by pinching. We can’t wait to glaze and fire our beautiful artworks. 2C continue to be role models for other students in the school by displaying courteous, cooperative and caring behaviour, as well as independent work habits and a wonderful passion for learning. We have `had both girls and boys out playing cricket in the Milo Cup Gala Day with both girls and boys bringing home the trophy as winners. Well done to all who participated and represented our school with pride. On Monday we had the most enthusiastic Year 5 students give their Student Leadership speeches. I would like to congratulate all of these students who gave a wonderful speech in front of their peers, staff and parents. From this very large group of nominations and after student voting, I would like to congratulate the following students, listed in alphabetical order, who will now go onto the next round. ENVIRONMENTAL MATHS DAY 2010 In the last couple of weeks all classes have been participating in maths sessions that have taken place outside of the classroom. Students rotated through various activities, which included gaining data on passing cars, identifying whether or not 3D objects would slide or roll down a slide and learning skills on how to measure the height of trees in the playground, to name a few. Students enjoyed transferring classroom skills into the playground and will benefit from seeing the real life uses of mathematics.

On Tuesday 23rd November all of Year 3 went to an excursion to Girrakool and Bulgandry. We travelled on a bus. When we got to Girrakool we had recess. After that we went for a bushwalk. In the bush we had to eat sour berries and make soap out of a leaf off of the grass tree. Then on the way back we went to a big rock with a lot of Aboriginal engravings. Then when we got back to our bags we had lunch. After lunch we got a stick and we tried to make a fire with the stick. When we finished lunch we got back on the bus and went to Bulgandry. At Bulgandry we went for another bushwalk. Then when we finished the bushwalk we had to get out face painted with mud. When we all had our faces painted we went on the board walk to look at more engravings. Then we walked out of the bush. When we got out we went on the bus again. Then we got to school I had the most fantastic day ever! by Danielle Bridle

On Tuesday 23rd November our class went to Girrakool and Bulgandry, it took us one hour to get there and back. On the way there I sat with Ryan and on the way back I sat with Jacob. When we got to Girrakool we had recess for 10 minutes then my group went to have a talk about Aboriginal people and Gail showed us some Aboriginal weapons. Then we went for our walk. The walk takes one hour but it doesn’t feel like an hour. We went to a log and sat down to have a look at an engraving in the rock, then we kept walking. Then we stopped at the waterfall for Gail to talk to us about the waterfall. We sat there in silence for 30 seconds. Then we walked down a hill. We walked over stepping stones and over a waterfall. We had to sit down and wait for the other people. After that we walked the rest of the way to the cave. Gail gave us another talk about the cave. Then we went back to the buses and had lunch then the bus took us to Bulgandry. At Bulgandry we got our face painted in aboriginal paint. then we walked around a path and looked at all the engravings. Then the bus took us back to school. It was a very tiring day! by Bailey Horswell

CLASS 2C — STATEMENTS OF POSITION AND ARGUMENTS

All beaches should be closed

I strongly, undoubtedly believe beaches must not be abandoned for families. I have many strong ideas about why beaches must not close. These are: beaches help you learn, they give you good experiences, families holiday there and Nippers can run. I strongly believe beaches must not be closed. Taylor Stirton I think beaches should not be closed. Here is why: beaches cool you down, no one would be able to surf and no one could fish. I strongly believe that beaches should not be shut down. Josh Daniels I strongly disagree that all beaches should close down. I have many very, very strong reasons why all beaches must not be closed. They are: people can have fun at the beach, life savers will have jobs, the water cools you down and children can still do Nippers. Beaches must not close. Asher Barron- Hyland Cats are the best pets I undoubtedly believe that cats are the most magnificent pet in the world. I have 3 firm reasons why cats are the best pets. These are: you can sit and relax with cats, kittens are playful and cats fight off other pests. My first reason is cats are a pet you can sit and relax with. It is a good thing you can relax with them because if you are sick, they will sit with you. Cats give you company and relax with you. They relax with you when you come home from school. Natasha Fisk I strongly believe that cats are not the best pets. I have very strong arguments I want to share. These are: cats are really smelly, they scratch hard and other pets are much more playful. Firstly, I disagree that cats are the best pets because cats are really smelly. They lay in the wet grass. When people come over, they sit on your lap. They leave fur on your lap when you don’t want them to.

Cats are the best pets

I strongly, undoubtedly believe that cats are the worst pets ever. I have many arguments on why cats are the worst pet. These are: cats are not smart, they scratch, cats pounce, they have sharp claws and they bite things. Cats are not smart. They run away and they hang on your clothes. Cats hide away when they are supposed to get a bath and they get lost easily when they see dogs. They squeal at their owners and at other people and things. Arno Van Der Wateren

I think cats are the best pets. I have a lot of good arguments why cats are the best pet. Firstly, I believe cats are the best pet because cats kill rats and mice. This is good because they have germs that make you sick. Blake Windle

I strongly believe that cats are the dodgiest pets in Australia. Here are my strong reasons: cats run away easily, they scratch, they eat birds and they cough up fur balls. Firstly, cats are not a good pet because they run away very easily. That is bad because they can get into the neighbour’s yard and disturb them. Joel Gilchrist

I strongly believe that cats are the very best pet. I have many strong arguments. These are: cats are cute and nice, cats can purr, they sleep quietly and cats can curl up. Firstly, I believe cats are the very best pet because they are cute and nice. They are cute because they are soft. They are nice because they play with the wool. Cats are nice and cute and this is good for a family. Ashlee Gosper

Cats are like the worst pet ever. I have some good arguments to support my opinion. They are: cats annoy you at night, they have too many kittens, they waste your wool and they can scratch you. Firstly, I believe cats annoy you at night. Cats jump on your bed and leave hair on you. Joe Johnston
