Notes from Judy. (about to become the newest guild presi-dent.) Not sure how I should be addressing you at this mo-ment, but I have exciting news. Some special women have come forward and volunteered for Guild positions. Nena Turning has offered her services as President-Elect. Mary McKinney will take on the challenge. Things are coming to-gether, but we still need a person or two to market the raffle quilt. This year will be easier than last as It is the quilt show year and we have a larger audience for sales. I love that we have two chances to win. Another plus. Now have I convinced someone to take on this task? PLEASE!!!!! We need another person to assist with coordinating our monthly programs. Shouldn’t be a tough job as several programs are already in place. Just keep us on task. I have had several requests for skill building. Please send me ASAP your needs in this

area and we’ll put together a program to meet YOUR needs. [email protected].

The “word” is still embedded in this newsletter. Find it, win a prize. I look forward to

serving as your President. Bring your thoughts and suggestions. We are here to serve

Hello Mystery Quilters! Quilting Detectives -- are you following your hunches? If so, you are well on your way to solving this mys-tery! The first of the hunches may have helped you out in Clue 4. Have you picked up any the other hints along the way? Hmmmm -- what is the name of that block you sewed in Clues 2 and 3? Could that be help-ful in solving this mystery? Hmmmm……… Clues 4 and 5 will be sent no later than March 15. If you’ve signed on to be a part of this mystery fun, and have not received Clues 4 and 5 (or any other part up to this point) by that date, please let me know. I have plans to be out of town for the last half of March, so I won’t see you all at the guild meeting this month. Happy Stitching! Anita, Lead Detective, [email protected]

Raffle Quilt

We had Judy Gillen’s husband draw the ticket this morning at the board meeting. The winner of the raffle quilt is Josette Ponteri from Las Cruces. She bought the winning ticket at the Downtown Market. Final report on the 2017 raffle quilt, "Galaxy of Flowers", submitted by Elaine Doornbos, February 24, 2017 Ticket sales began on May 9, 2016 and ended Feb. 13, 2017. Ticket winner is Josette Pon-teri of Las Cruces. She came to the board meeting within the hour to clam the quilt. Photos were taken. The design for the quilt was inspired by a technique published by author and quilter Maxine Rosenthal in her book “One Block Wonders”. The design and fabric were chosen by Chris Ramsey and Libby Pruett. The almost 200 blocks were sewn by dedicated Guild members. Libby constructed the quilt sewing the blocks together, adding the border and machine quilting with bamboo batting. Binding was done by Erma Giron. Machine embroidery label by Vivien Stevens. As the Raffle Quilt Chair I organized, planned, managed and attended the raffle quilt venues throughout the year. Linnea Egbert expedited the printing of marketing materials (posters, photos, and tickets) as needed. She also saw to the ap-plication and booth payment of the Renaissance Arts Faire. It all had to be done on the computer. Frances Campbell organized the volunteers and saw to the application and booth payment of the Southern N.M. Festival of Quilts. Linnea Egbert and Becky LeRoy arranged for a booth at the Mountain View Senior Circle Holiday and Craft Show. The quilt was displayed at the Southern New Mexico State Fair. Working with Erma Giron, we obtained volunteers to sell raffle tickets for this five day event. Arrangements were made to sell tickets at the Downtown Market the second Saturday of every month. The La Casa Bazaar is a three day event, again using many volunteers to sell tickets. It would not have been possible to attend all these events without the support of the Guild volunteers. I want to thank our President, Veronica Calderon and our Treasurer, Diana Lonsway for their support. Also a thank you to all the members for selling tickets. Libby Pruett was our top ticket sales person this year. The following figures have been verified by our treasurer, Diana Lonsway. Total amount of money taken in $2852.00 Total outflows -702.98 Net Total $2150.02 Aprox. ticket sales: 3,228 Las Cholcheras Quilt Guild Members, I thank you for the wonderful experience. Respectfully submitted by Elaine Doornbos

A Sad Goodbye We sadly say goodbye to Betty Cross, who is moving away from us to be closer to family. Betty is a long time member of the guild, a Past President and a member of Loose Threads (pictured left). She will be sorely missed BUT we wish her a safe journey and all the best in her future life.

One of our new raffle quilts, Quilter’s Con-fetti. Just a peek...more to come.
