• Remember – you must check in prior to the day you will reassess, have your original test, and complete a reassessment study guide.

• There are two kinds of clauses: independent and dependent.
• Ex. Some students work in the food pantry because they care about helping hungry people.

• An independent clause expresses a complete thought and cant stand alone as sentence.

• A dependent clause does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone as a sentence.
• Dependent clauses depend on being connected to an independent clause to make sense.
• In other words – it is a fragment.

• Most dependent clauses are introduced by conjunctions (because, when, if, while, and that) or a relative pronoun (who, whose, which, that).
• Ex. Some students work in the food pantry because they care about helping hungry people.

• A dependent clause can be joined to an independent clause to add to the complete thought that the independent clause expresses.
