Landscape Architecture Drawing intro
A landscape architects profession Design and manage open spaces both of the
natural and built environments. Plan and produce projects which are both
sensitive to their environment and efficient to construct and manage.
Projects they handle range from designing the layout of parks, gardens and housing estates to city-centre design.
Work closely with landscape contractors, architects, planners and environmentalists.
Landscape Architecture Design Process
Bubble diagram is the start of landscape drawing when the next step is quick concept.
A detailed diagram can be done after quick concept.
Type of Landscape Plans
o Site analysis plano Bubble plano Plot plano Concept imageso Rendering / perspective o Planting plan
Site Analysis
Site analysis is an evaluation or judgement about the conditions of the site elements.
Advantages : Saves energy by restricting site disturbance; Allows land to be developed efficiently with the minimum
degree of environmental impact Helps preserve the natural and qualities of the site and its
surrounding area.
Example of a site analysis executed for a rural site in a steep, heavily wooded area
Bubble Plans Bubbles are used to designate areas for
specific purposes in a simple drawing.
Refine the design based on the needs of the client
Advantage : help us understand space adjacency, layouts, and
relationships, and relative space sizes among other things.
E.g. dining area, seating area, cooking area, play area, gardening area. Where are the good views, problems areas, slopes, sun areas, wind area, utility lines?
Plot Plan
General idea of the entire landscape's features, structures, layout and dimensions.
Concept images Photo examples of features similar to those included in
the plot plan Help give you an idea of what things will look like.
Renderings/Perspective A drawing or computer generated image
that shows the colours, texture, lighting, shading and depth that will be present in the landscape.
Advantage: Helpful in conveying ideas Give the illusion of space and distance.
Planting Plan
A labelled diagram that shows the quantities, location, size, shape and colour of specific plants to be used in the landscape.

Scaled Drawings
Most landscape plans are drawn to a scale of 1:10 ( 1 inch on paper : 10 feet on ground )
Other popular landscape scales are 1:4, 1:5, 1:8, 1:10, 1:16 and 1:20.
Scales of 1:4, 1:8 or 1:16 match the common increments used on a conventional ruler, but scales of 1:10 and 1:20 are used by engineers and landscape architects.
Lines used to represent the rise and fall of the land that appear on maps and plans.
Represent a line at a certain height traced upon the surface of the land.
Landscape architects use contours to create grading plans for a site.
Plans that show how the surface of the land is to be shaped, so that ground may be cleared and ready for buildings to be built
