Be a Good Steward of the Advent and Christmas Seasons

December is such a busy time of year, and a month that tempts us to lose sight of the profound spiritual importance of the Advent and Christmas seasons. The best way to stay focused on the coming of Jesus Christ is to be good stewards of his pres-ence in our daily lives. Here are simple ways to exercise good stewardship of this sacred time of year.

Give God a very special gift this year: Let this gift be some-thing personal that no one else needs to know about, and let it be a sacrifice. Perhaps your gift will be to commit to spending more time with God daily. Perhaps there is a habit you know you should give up. Why wait for a New Year’s resolution? Start now. Celebrate the season of Advent: Light the Advent wreath candles each night before dinner. If you have children, let them offer their own prayers to the Christ child for whom we are waiting. Set aside a special time to read the Christmas story in the Gospel of Saint Luke 1:5-56 through 2:1-20: Consider reading this account with your family and discussing it together. Attend Christmas Mass together with your family: If you are alone this Christmas or don’t have family living near you, invite a friend or a neighbor to join you.

Immaculate Conception

"Immaculate Mary,

Your praises we sing!" December 8th is one of our feasts celebrating

Mary - the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. From the beginnings of the Church, spiritual writers and theologians have acknowl-edged the innocence and holiness of Mary. St.

Irenaeus called her the "new Eve." Both faced with the pure freedom to accept or reject God, Mary

began with work of redemption with her yes to Christ! The Church began to celebrate the feast of Mary's

conception in the early Middle Ages. In 1854, Pope Pius IX infallibly declared that Mary was free of

original sin from the first moment of her conception. On this feast day, we celebrate the beauty and goodness

of Our Lady!

Christmas Wafer "Oplatki"

The Christmas wafer is a central European Christian Christmas tradition celebrated in

Poland, Lithuania and in some parts of Slovakia during the Christmas Eve Vigil.

“Oplatki” (Christmas Wafers) available to purchase at the Welcome Center after Sunday 7:45 & 9:30 a.m. Masses or the

Parish office.

Blessing of Baby Jesus next weekend December 14 & 15

at all Masses.

Music Ministry Many of our music ministry groups have begun rehearsals in full swing. Here’s some quick info: Children’s Choir (ages 5-11) meets on Tuesday evenings at 5:30pm in the music room which is located in the large porta-ble directly behind Rosary Hall. Junior Choir (11 and up), also meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:20pm. 9:30 choir meets on Thursday evenings at 7pm in the Music Room and sings each week at 9:30am Mass. 11:30 choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the Music Room and sings each week at 11:30am Mass. Both these groups are always in need more singers, men and women. No previous choral experience required, although it is very helpful. Music reading a plus. Our Resurrection Choir sings for funerals and is open to new members. We meet a half-hour before each funeral. No previous experience necessary. If you are interested in this, you can call the parish office and leave me a message, or e-mail me at [email protected]. If you are interested in joining the Spanish Music Ministry or the Life Teen Band, please feel free to visit the following link to find out how to get involved: https://ladyrosary.org/music We have a great and vibrant music ministry which helps God’s faithful give praise and worship and grow in their faith. We can use your help to continue to make it the joyful noise

Join us for Discovering the God We Call Father. How often do we pray the Our Father without a conscious

understanding of what we ask of Him? In the Our Father, we are praying to God with words given to us by God. This Bible study of The Lord’s Prayer helps

us take on the heart of Jesus by studying how He prayed and by asking for that same heart

CELEBRATING ST. NICHOLAS DAY

Widely celebrated in Europe, St. Nicholas' feast day, December 6th, kept alive the stories of his goodness and generosity. In Germany and Poland, boys dressed as bishops begged alms for the poor and sometimes for themselves! In the Netherlands and Belgium, St. Nicholas arrived on a steamship from Spain to ride a white horse on his gift-giving rounds. De-cember 6th is still the main day for gift giving and merrymaking in much of Europe. For example, in the Netherlands St. Nicholas' Day is celebrated with the sharing of candies (thrown in the door), chocolate initial letters, small gifts, and riddles. Dutch children leave carrots and hay in their shoes for the horse, hoping St. Nicholas will exchange them for small gifts. Simple gift-giving in early Advent helps preserve a Christmas Day focus on the Christ Child. St. Nicholas is known for giving gold or coins to those in need. So, coins make a fine shoe treat for children. A simple St. Nicholas Day celebration adds a bit of welcome festivity in the early days. It provides an opportunity to tell the story of St. Nicholas ,a man of faith whose goodness and gener-osity grew out of his love for God. It enriches our understanding of Santa Claus by showing the real historical person who inspired the familiar leg-end and traditions. So tell a story of St. Nicholas’ generous example of giving in secret to those in need. Then encourage children to identify a kindly “Nicholas deed” to do for someone else. Have children fill their shoes with pieces of carrot or bits of hay for his white horse or donkey the night before St Nick arrives and place shoes outside bedroom doors. See that candy treats and a simple gift appears by morning on December 6th.
