LANCELIN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Friends A Huge Thank You In the last newsletter I thanked the P&C, staff and community for the amazing efforts that culminated in the Monster Fete for 2019. I would again like to express my sincere appreciation to the P&C for their support of the school and its programs. Your P&C has donated over $14 000.00 to the school for the projects. For a detailed outline of where the funds will be allocated please see the P&C news section of this newsletter. The students, staff and families of Lancelin Primary School thank the P&C for the wonderful support shown.

Making a Splash Since the last newsletter, your children have had the chance to participate in the Faction Swimming Carnival and the Interschool Swimming Carnival. Friday 8th March saw Iluka Aquatic Centre a rainbow of colour, as Year three to Year six students from each faction cheered along their team mates in a variety of competitive swimming and novelty events. Competitors tried their very best to earn points for their faction, pushing themselves to achieve a personal best in the pool. The result came down to the wire, with the final result being very close. Congratulations to Endeavour who earned the Faction trophy and to the students who earned individual championship and runner-up trophies/medallions. Photos of this event are on the front of the newsletter. Thank you to staff who assisted at this event, manning bays, filming the photo finishes, judging, starting the races, supervising students and allowing the younger students to have a wonderful day of water activities while the older students competed; a special, big thanks to Mrs Sue Collins for organising this event; to parents who acted as time keepers, judges and water starters; to the P&C for the sausage sizzle; to parents who brought their children to the event and stayed to cheer them on; and, to our students for participating in the events with a great sense of fun and sportspersonship. Friday 15 March saw selected students from Years three to six return to Iluka Aquatic Centre to represent the school at the Interschool Swimming Carnival. All of our students displayed exemplary behaviour and swam to the best of their abilities. Due to the tremendous efforts of all our students, we brought home the handicap shield. Congratulations to all the students who competed on the day and especially to Connor McLean who was the Year 4 runner up champion boy. Bullying No Way! Take Action Every Day The National Day of Action is over for another year. All students were involved in classroom activities that clarified for students what is and is not bullying and emphasised the message of Bullying No Way! at Lancelin Primary School. The message that I hope parents will reinforce with their children is that this is important every day, not just on the National Day of Action and everyone needs to play their part in the prevention of bullying. Children’s University Please get your forms in as soon as possible to enrol your children in the Children’s University. If you are the

parent of a child in Year 3-6, and you have misplaced your letter and form, please request one to be sent home

with your child.

Harmony Day Celebrations – Wednesday 27 March Next Wednesday we are celebrating Harmony Day at school. We encourage students to dress up in traditional cultural costumes: could be their family country of origin, or just their favourite country they are learning about. Students who do not have a costume to wear are encouraged to wear orange on the day. Each class will be undertaking a number of activities on the day, including preparing and eating some international cuisine. Student Leadership We are looking forward to hosting Mark Clayden of 4theteam on Friday as he takes our Year 6s for a Leadership Skills Training Day. The day will consist of presentations, group challenges, trust activities and some time for personal reflection. I would again like to thank the Bendigo Bank for their support of this program as we fit our students for the future. Calling for Tenders The P&C are disposing of a 2001 trailer and we are calling for tenders. The trailer is registered for 3 months and will be sold “As Is Where Is”. Tenders need to be received in a seal envelope at the school office by Friday 29 March 2019.The school reserves the right to not accept any or all offers made. If two bids come in at the same value, the School Principal reserves the right to hold a ballot to decide the winner.

Take care

Linda Toms Principal

Thank you

to Jessica Andrews, a lovely young lady who volunteers every Monday. The students have the opportunity to write a short story using some weird and whacky words they have created. The favourite word so far is...

Giorgia’s creation in year 2/3 “Snacka-lacka-lacka-dood”

(We think she was hungry at the time) Giorgia recieves a raffle ticket in the draw for library book prizes. The Library is open every Monday from 8:20-3:30. Parents please pop in before or after school and see what the kids have been doing.

Thank you
