COOKINGA conversation class on

“Sincere Love”

Participate in a culinary exchange in the classroom where you will learn how to make

delicious recipes from all over the world and act as true top chefs.

Create a recipe!

Your cooking show!

You are going to learn recipes from different countries.

In the box you receive, there are two pictures of typical recipes from the countries you are representing. You will also receive objects like a spoon, a pan, a bowl and pictures of the ingredients that they will use. The last thing in the box is an incomplete recipe. In groups, you must try to com-plete the recipe the best way that you can.

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”George Bernard Shaw

“One should eat to live, not live to eat.”Moliere

Create your own cooking show! Present one of the recipes to the rest of the class as a cooking show. 1. Choose a name for the cooking show.2. All members of the group must participate so divide between the group who will teach which part of the recipe. 3. Make good use of the props given and create a script of what you are going to say and do before you present. 4. Use as much of the new cooking vocabulary as possible.

The cooking show!Watch a small part of a cooking show, were the cook will demonstrate how to make a simple recipe. Pay close attention to the vocabulary and to the way the recipe is taught and presented.

1. What type of vocabulary does the host use?

2. Does he do things quickly or slowly?

3. Does he repeat any information to the viewer?

4. Is the show long or short? Why do you think that is?

On your own Keep in mind what was seen in today’s class: watch Julie & Julia (2009), an American comedy-drama fi lm starring Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. The fi lm contrasts the life of the French chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog that would make her a published author.
