Restoran Yat Lai

Restoran Yat Lai is one of the very few Chinese food outlets found in Kuala Kangsar. The shop is handled by a pair of twins; one usually in the kitchen and the other manning the cashier. And to further strengthen the muhibbah concept, they employed a Muslim girl as one of the waiters.

They offer four different flavors of 'pau's. Home-made red beans (literally), kaya, curry beef and roast chicken are the different fillings you could make your effort to travel there for! Best way to guarantee your purchase is to call 05- 776 6369 to make reservations in the mornings. You can collect them anytime between 2pm and 6pm.

The Hainanese chicken chop, my personal favorite, is one of the specialties of Restoran Yat Lai. This dish is slowly becoming a lost art, so I always make it a point to drop by whenever I'm at KK. The crispy fried skin of the chicken and the onion strong gravy defines the Hainanese flavor, separating it from the conventional chicken chop dishes.
