General Manager’s Message Summer is finally here! Well sort of… As I’m writing this Monday, May 20, a friend from Duluth let me know that they got snow over the weekend! This is just not right. Summer is short enough here in the north woods. Enough of my rant about the weather and on to more positive things. We’ve got some great television viewing for you this month with quite a bit of new local content that our staff have been hard at work on. We have new episodes of Backroads, Common Ground, and a mini documentary about the city of Hackensack that debuts both online and on our main channel on Thursday, June 13 at 7pm. In addition, we have some new national shows that I’m sure you will enjoy this month. Check out this edition of Highlights and mark your calendars so you don’t miss anything. We seem to be getting more questions from viewers lately regarding watching via streaming over the internet. You have likely seen our promotions for LPTV Passport. LPTV Passport is a member benefit that gives eligible donors and supporters extended access to an on-demand library of quality public television programming online. The LPTV Passport library currently offers members more than 1,000 episodes to watch, with new PBS programs being added weekly. You can enjoy past episodes of many of your favorite PBS shows on demand using your computer, smartphone or tablet and other devices as follows with more devices coming soon! Currently, PBS content is available via: • Desktop computers and laptops at video.lptv.org • PBS Video iOS and Android apps for smartphones and tablets • Apple TV • Roku • Chromecast • Amazon Fire TV • Amazon Fire Stick If you aren’t already a member, you can become one now and gain instant access to LPTV Passport. Members of $60 or more, only $5 per month, will receive this added benefit. Consider becoming a member today. If you are already a member, you may already be eligible for LPTV Passport. Members who contribute $60 or more annually get the added benefit of LPTV Passport. If you’re already a member and would like to see if you’re eligible for access to LPTV Passport, please send a request or contact us at 800-292-0922. Folks have also been asking us how they can watch our channel 24x7 streaming live online. Currently we aren’t allowed to stream our channel live over the internet due to program rights issues with some of the national content. PBS is working hard to secure program rights for all of our content and we are hopeful that soon this will be a viewing option for you. That said, right now you can watch Lakeland News at 10 live online. If you go to lptv.org at 10pm, you will see a notification pop up that will link you to the live news program. We are also experimenting with streaming Lakeland News live on Facebook. Below are a few more Lakeland online viewing options for you: Lakeland PBS’ local content on YouTube (including news): https://www.youtube.com/user/LakelandPTV PBS national content along with select local content: https://video.lptv.org/ PBS kids shows: https://kids.lptv.org/ Regardless of how you watch, we very much appreciate our viewers and members. As always, thank you for your generous support!
