At Lakeland, our students are leading TODAY. All colleges say they are educating the leaders of tomorrow.

“I don’t think there is any better way to teach young people responsibility, teamwork and professionalism than the Student Managed Farm. The SMF pushed me beyond my comfort zone and allowed me to grow as a professional, a leader and as a friend.” – Grayden Kay, Class of 2015. Grayden completed our Animal Science Technology program.

· Coordinate the Fashion on a Budget show by recruiting participants, selecting high-profile judges, managing an event attended by hundreds and webcasting the show to the world.

· Lead a team of firefighters as the captain or battalion chief and battle the most realistic fire simulations in Western Canada.

· Create and run your own play program for children. Plan and prepare activities, interact with parents and work hands-on with children, from infants to age five.

· Plan the next Band in the Sand. Select the entertainment, market the event, sell 1,800+ tickets, set up the stage and run the show.

· Bring energy and light to campus, literally. Working as a team in our Energy Centre, generate heat and power for the Lloydminster campus.

· Research and select the next crop of species for the on-campus green “living” roof.

First steps to success

Start your Lakeland experience off on

the right foot by participating in our

NET ZERO ENERGYOur Renewable Energy Learning Centre operates as a net-zero energy classroom and office building. Solar photovoltaic, wind energy, solar thermal and geothermal systems all work together.

Work directly with faculty and industry in Applied Research & InnovationOur live-the-learning mandate goes beyond hands-on courses. Working on a research project is a great boost to your resumé and an excellent way to put your classroom knowledge into practice. Participate in applied research projects through volunteer and employment opportunities. Be the solution-provider in applied research.

New heightsWe’ve taken our research to new heights with our unmanned aerial vehicle system (UAS), equipped with image acquisition and processing technologies. The new research tool helps with research in agriculture, energy, environmental sciences, and fire and emergency services.

#20 is reason to celebrate We’re sitting in 20th place on the latest list of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges. Thanks to investments from our partners, our applied research funds increased from $640,000 in 2012 to $2.6 million in 2013.

“Lakeland has helped us to get to this next level by providing and modifying commercial potato equipment for the project. They are also advancing the science of weed control, application of biochar to crop development, and more. Their combination of agricultural know-how, combined with a scientific approach, adds essential discipline and capability to project advancement.” – Barry Farquharson, co-founder

of NovaGreen, of their work with

Lakeland on the Jerusalem

Artichoke (JART) project.
