I have great pleasure in inviting you, on behalf of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, to the 13th World Lake Conference. The conference will be held at Wuhan International Conference & Exhibition Centre from November 1-5, 2009 in Wuhan, China. The 13th World Lake Conference is jointly organized by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES), Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) and Wuhan Municipality, with support from key national agencies including the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theme of the conference is “Rehabilitate the Lake Ecosystem: Global Challenges and the Chinese Innovations”. The conference offers an opportunity for the global exchange of experiences in lake protection and allows for the sharing of best practices in the field. We expect the conference this year to be a high profile and diverse one, involving participation of over 1000 key stakeholders from all parts of the world. There will be a total of 12 plenary speeches at the conference, delivered by the Chinese Minister of Environmental Protection, Chinese Minister of Water Resources, Japanese Vice-Minister of Environmental Affairs, Stockholm Water Prize Laureates, Chinese scholars, representatives from the World Bank and the coordinator of UN World Water Assessment Programme. Special events including the Governors Dialogue, Mayors Forum and the Students and Children Sessions are also organized to maximize participation by stakeholders worldwide, facilitate international collaboration, and create more opportunities for global partnership. Further details on the conference are available at our official website (www.chinalakes.org).
