The War Against the States

In the early days of the Obama administration those unfa-

miliar with the new US Attorney General Eric Holder might

have been surprised at his decision to drop voter intimidation

charges against members of the New Black Panther Party

Even those familiar with him were shocked by his in-your-face defense when he

said that to compare what the Panthers did to voter intimidation in the rsquo60rsquos ldquodoes a

great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my peoplerdquo

Now this type of rhetoric is just commonplace and to be expected from an ad-

ministration who has declared war against the states States that try to enforce state

or even federal immigration laws are sued by an AG who took an oath to defend and

uphold our laws Several states are being sued for attempting to purge the voter

rolls of non citizens felons and the deceased claiming that this action amounts to

voter suppression What is Holderrsquos interest in seeing to it that dead alien felons

can vote Could it be that this administration expects this to be the voting bloc that

gives them the edge in the 2012 election

This level of malfeasance and corruption should be more than sufficient to force

the Attorney General out or lacking that to insure that the administration which

defends his actions to be turned out at the next election However heaped on top of

this is the Fast and Furious investigation which AG Eric Holder has been stonewall-

ing and is now hiding behind the Presidentrsquos claim of executive privilege Is Eric

Holder head of the lsquoJust Usrsquo dept referring to his relationship with the President

Executive privilege implies that the executive (the President) had discussions with

Holder about Fast and Furious But the President has already denied this Invoking

executive privilege at this juncture implies that Eric Holder and the President have

had conversations regarding ldquoFast and Furiousrdquo and that they would be embarrassed

to share them with congress and the American people Fortunately for the Presi-

dentrsquos reelection campaign the press seems unconcerned about this issue

This morning congressman Louie Gohmert revealed that Eric Holder told con-

gressman Gohmert to this face that ldquoThere is a political dimension to justicerdquo

When we go to the polls this November remember that you are dealing this politi-

cal decision not just to Obama but also to the other member of the lsquoJust Usrsquo Dept

Itrsquos only just

The LCRC met at the Quitman Library Goode Street Quitman TX At 612 PM our president Greg Bowen

called the meeting to order

Joyce Spencer led the prayer and Greg Bowen led the pledges

Elected officials present were County Chair Helen Heavy Constables Ed Shadbolt and Steve Bowser County

Chair elect Janie Walenta Sheriff Bill Wansley sheriff candidates Dwaine Dougherty and Jim Brown and

Precinct Chairs Terrell AronSpeer and Bob Vann

Minutes were approved as written and appearing in The Sentinel

Program Reports from the Texas Republican Convention Attendees Helen Heavey and Janie Walenta

gave the majority of the program with various other attendees offering opinions and observations including

Melinda Carter who mentioned the gratifying number of young people in attendance and our newest member

Kellie Kauitzsch who commented on the behavior of certain speakers and the crowdrsquos responses It was also

announced that TFRW had a tribute to women and our Janice Logan was honored Additional honorees were

Shirley Haskins Pat Deis and Barbara Caffrey

Char announced the next Tea Party Program would be on Agenda 21 with John Tweedell

Greg expanded on Agenda 21 for those who needed further information

Terrell reporting for the Publicity Committee announced the plan to offer an essay contest on the Constitu-

tion to High School students when classes resume Prizes are planned to be $100 $50 and $25 Winners may

be welcomed to read their winning essays as a club program and the publicity committee plans to request the

newspapers publish the winners as well

Next LCRC meeting will be July 24th 2012 and the speaker will be Cathy Adams from the Texas Eagle Fo-

rum whose main focus is clarification of the Islamic situation

Before closing Greg announced to the club that on the prior Sunday Ed ldquoDead Eyerdquo Shadbolt had been in a

gun fight with an individual who was planning to lsquocommit

suicide by coprsquo but Ed was able to shoot the gun out of the

manrsquos hand (We are fortunate Edrsquos expertise prevailed)

Tree of Liberty Suffers from Drought

Shortly after the Supreme Courtrsquos decision regarding the ldquoAffordable Care Actrdquo the deceptive name for lsquoObama Carersquo I started receiving emails designed to rehabilitate Chief Justice John Roberts Some even had him being ldquobrilliantrdquo and politically savvy This says a lot more for the generosity of spirit that I have come to expect from my conservative readers than it does about the brilliance of the Chief Justice

The afternoon of the day the disappointing decision was announced I went out to photograph the Tree of Liberty I first noticed it this spring As other trees were greening up it lay dormant I have long worried about the Tree It has struggled for years Now as I look at it I have to wonder if it can be revived or if it must be replanted anew This would be a lot of work I know only a few who are up to the task Why so glum has John Roberts brilliance eluded me

When the decision first came down I made a few quick notes thinking I would take a picture of the Tree of Liberty and put out a Sentinel Extra But I barely had time for the picture I had a lot of personal business to attend to and quite frankly I did not expect John Roberts to receive any good press from our side Early comments from my two favorite philosophical conservatives Dennis Prager and Mark Levin that afternoon supported my original reaction A couple days later I caught the Rush Limbaugh show Rush is more tactical than philosophical but he too saw the errors in the decision Yet I am still getting emails praising John Roberts and his decision I offer the following for your consideration

The phrase which seems to engender the most positive and emotional response is that the Chief Justice ldquohanded conservatives a giftrdquo I am assuming the gift is supposed to be an election year issue as if we did not have enough already This defines the Chief Justice as a political operative It makes the courtrsquos ruling a political stunt Even if this ultimately works in our favor it diminishes the court and postpones what should have been an easy victory It gets worse even if we are capable of winning a political victory on this issue (the repeal of the Affordable Care Act) it establishes a precedent that the government is unconstrained in its taxing authority A gift Where is the Returns Department What is painfully obvious in all this is that it is not the job of any Justice on the Supreme Court let alone the Chief Justice to act in a political way Nor

is it their task to strive to find in any conceivable way an excuse to allow a questionable law to stand Specifically their task is to see if any law brought before them is consistent with the letter and the intent of the Constitution and itsrsquo authors Where question arises intent discovered through additional writings and debates of the authors may and should be considered If Chief Justice Roberts had any question and it appears he did consulting the record he would have discovered that almost no one would have voted for the mandate if they thought it was or had it been characterized as a tax Neither the billrsquos proponents nor its detractors characterize it as a tax and almost no one embraces it as such even after this ruling

We hear many mostly on our side debating whether the mandate is a tax or a penalty However this is a false choice and of little relevance The only question of any practical relevance is is it a) constitutional or b) unconstitutional The obvious answer Mr Chief Justice is b) unconstitutional

We hear that in the majority opinion Chief Justice Roberts does much the rein in the Commerce Clause However had he found the law to be unconstitutional which it is that too would have constrained the Commerce Clause And since the law would have been struck down on the basis of the limitations of the Commerce Clause the precedent would have been much stronger

Now that the law is deemed to be constitutional the late Senator Ted Kennedyrsquos assertion that we as citizens have a ldquofundamental rightrdquo to health care will become an accepted political argument and precedent for future government power grabs Either we have that right because the state owns the labor of health care workers and can distribute it as it sees fit or we as citizens directly own the labor of health care workers In either case the health care worker (the doctor nurse or technician) becomes a slave to the state or to the citizens collectively Can there be a worse precedent If health care is a fundamental right which can be mandated by the state what are food shelter and clothing Can our lsquorightsrdquo to these things be any less fundamental Do we now own the carpenter the weaver and the farmer If not why not Where on earth does the distinction lie

Romney now can strongly make the case that to get rid of Obamarsquos unpopular health care law we must get rid of Obama But there is no guarantee that this will happen or even if we are able to pry the Presidency from his illegitimate grasp that we will then be able to repeal the law We will have to have control of both houses Small majorities may not work either as weak Republicans seem to be purchased as easily as any unprincipled Democrat There is also a debate as to whether the repeal bill could be filibustered in the Senate In this case we would need at least 63 Republican Senators assuming that only three would be on sale that particular week

And now it seems childhood has been extended to age 26 For two sentinel issues I covered with the help of our many readers jobs which people of our generation held at an early age Because of minimum wage laws and burdensome regulation young people now enter the workforce with overpriced irrelevant education and NO experience We are producing helpless and worthless citizens incapable of either supporting themselves or understanding why The citizen therefore becomes dependant on the government for his sustenance Suddenly we find ourselves back in the day of a ruling elite dictating to uneducated serfs King George III 1 Founders 0

Although this may be the loudest wake-up call to date it is hardly the first If you are not

prepared at this point to wake-up and defend your liberty you are no longer a free citizen Your

last free act was to surrender your liberty The Tree of Liberty still struggles and Chief Justice

John Roberts is dead to me

HBO - Helping Barak Obama

HOLLYWOOD LEANS LEFT - Thatrsquos hardly a news headline The biggest fraud Hollywood ever perpetrated on us was that McCarthy may have said anything which was inaccurate From sit-coms to dramas the language of the left pervades almost every show the Hollywood moguls offer Yet oddly the most successful from Seinfeld to The Big Bang

Theory completely avoid political content and magically their audience doubles This remains a mystery in Hollywood

We have come to expect a left leaning bias in our entertainment and for the most part we tolerate or overlook it However it is sometimes so egregious so in-your-face so manipulative of fact and viewer that someone must throw a flag on the play

This yearrsquos offering coincidentally in an election year is The Newsroom starring a cast from a left wing wax museum of horrors The first episode was designed to make you think that by watching it you would seem smart This is done by employing a writing technique using an every third word sort of shorthand a sort of intellectual lsquoubby dubbyrsquo which is hard to understand but you get enough of it that in doing so you can feel superior The second episode is designed to capture the viewer by using language of both the right and the left so that the viewer wonders ldquoWhere are they going with thisrdquo and ldquoCould it be that they are going to give a straight up balanced debate between both political viewpointsrdquo In the third episode assuming that if you are still watching they have you in their snare the exits are locked the mask comes off and the zombies start eating your brain Irsquom out and The Newsroom is off my record list

This show reminds me of another drama which erred on NBC (the Nobody But Clinton network) coincidentally also in an election year (2000) You may remember it as the ldquoaward winningrdquo West Wing also starring such left wing luminaries as Martin Sheen as a caring sincere smart and wonderful Democrat President and Alan Alda playing a sinister Republican Senator The left bills this tired predictable script writing approach as ldquoNew Fresh and Boldrdquo I watched too many episodes of this series silently fuming in my living room chair The final straw came when a new character (Dr Nora I think) loosely based on Dr Laura Schlessinger a non political talk radio host who promoted family values and righteous living was created as a lsquostraw-manrsquo to be ridiculed and dismissed

In the scene Dr Nora and a group of media types are visiting in the Oval Office waiting for the President to arrive When the President arrives everyone rises except for Dr Nora who is half sitting on the corner of the Presidentrsquos desk In front of the entire group President Martin Sheen dresses her down for this breach of etiquette

I wondered ldquoWhat sort of male drama queen expects a woman to rise when he enters a roomrdquo Apparently I could never be President This was a blatant character assassination of a good person who had always remained above the political fray It was a way of criticizing Dr Laura for something she had not nor would ever do in a venue where she could not defend herself It was a cowardly attack ldquoNever again I saidrdquo and I never watched another episode I encourage you to take the same tact with this new already ldquoacclaimedrdquo and renewed show Let me tell you why

Everything you might have suspected about the show was confirmed in the third and what is for me the final episode The first target in their cross hairs was the Tea Party Their approach is simultaneously raw bold and clever Young earnest local Tea Party leaders are put up on a screen for what they are led to believe will be an unbiased media interview by iconic newsman Will McAvoy played by the showrsquos star leftist Jeff Daniels However they are lectured (educated) that the Tea Party is just a front for the evil Koch brothers whom neither of the poor misguided and uninformed Tea Party leaders had ever heard of Most interesting is the rationale for calling the Koch brothers evil It seems they are RICH even richer than George Soros In fact we are told they could buy George Soros several times over (If only) This not only establishes the validity of the evilness of the Koch brothers it seems to absolve George Soros of any evilness because he is such a relatively small fish The shock of this revelation can be seen on the young Tea Partiers faces their mouths agape as we cut to a close-up of Will McAvoyrsquos face serious stuff Again the straw man the dressing down and what a coincidence the creator of The News-

room Aaron Sorkin also happens to have been the creator of West Wing They say that wisdom comes with age but you will have to agree Aaron Sorkin hasnrsquot aged a bit

A new character was introduced in this third episode the CEO of the parent company played by none other than ldquoHanoi Janerdquo Fonda another Hollywood leftist icon who hasnrsquot aged a bit Interestingly she was introduced in the background in the shadows of a large room as if they could not bring her to the fore too quickly as it would tip off too many discerning viewers It looked like her but neither my honey nor I could be sure until the mask of the shadows was lifted and she began to speak Interestingly her character wanted to do ldquothe right thingrdquo (expose conservatives as the evil destroyers of collective American compassion) but she feared the retribution of the evil Koch brothers and instructed the head of the news division played by another leftist Sam Waterston to tell Will McAvoy to ldquotone it downrdquo What do you think are the chances of that happening In episode two Will McAvoy had an epiphany that they lsquowould report only the facts with no political spin and no evil commercials But the report-ing would not be right up the center because the facts are never found there No they are al-ways found (surprisingly enough) on the leftrsquo It was in the show

For those already involved in the show let me give you the long and the short of what will happen as the show progresses First the long If Obama wins reelection and the world fails to come to a merciful end before he is inaugurated for a second term expect the show for the next four years to extol the virtues of both the President and his policies Expect Republicans to be blamed for all of his failures and for obstructing the one additional socialistic policy initiative which would have made it all work However if Providence intercedes on our behalf and the Republicans retake the reins of government expect the show to become a thorn in the side of the administration by having every policy decision questioned the populace rallied to oppose it and every success spun into a failure

In the short term for the duration of the 2012 campaign and this is the important meat of this editorial expect the history of the last two or three years to be re-litigated and rewritten Here is how this will be done Real events of the past several years from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill which they have already covered to the latest Supreme Court decision will be covered fac-tually and then spun in such a realistic way that the real and the fictional will become insepara-ble in the viewersrsquo minds When remembering actual events the viewers will now include in that memory misinformation which comes directly from the show The Newsroom

This is the sinister intent of the show The Newsroom is an assault on reason an affront to facts and a weekly slander of good Americans It is nothing but a propaganda piece designed specifi-cally to rewire the voter before they enter the voting booth in this presidential election year It is a raw manipulation of an unsuspecting populace who have been purposefully lsquodumbed downrsquo and never exposed to the concept of critical thinking

FNC just aired a piece in which young college-aged people and recent graduates were asked things like who the United States declared independence from and who was their favorite Founding Father Young Paraguayan street urchins would have given more accurate less em-barrassing answers This over-educated and uninformed American youth is the target audience for The Newsroom and they are easily susceptible to these manipulations Be creative On eve-nings when The Newsroom will err invite members of this demographic over to your home for game night and Jello-shots and hope they were too stoned to remember to lsquoTivorsquo the show By not watching and by encouraging others not to watch we deprive the show of audience and rat-ings the life blood of any show Satellite and cable are now interactive They know exactly what you watch and no longer rely on Nielsen surveys As your weekly game night guests leave hand them a copy of the Constitution (available for $1 per copy from the Heritage Foundation) A few days before voting day give your guests tickets to an amusement park good only for No-vember 6th On voting day show up and vote The Republic you save may be your own

Presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is reported to have narrowed his VP possibili-ties down to four Rob Portman (jr senator from Ohio) Bobby Gindal (governor of Louisiana) Paul Ryan (rep from Wisconsin and chairman of the Budget Committee) and Tim Pawlenty (former governor of Minnesota) It appears Romney is risk adverse and plans to play it safe If the Sentinelrsquos 6 rule holds this could be a winning strategy but it has some Republican in-siders nervous It may not be enough to say that the Obama economy stinks He needs a plan voters can envision as being better

Romney has put out a 56 point plan The size alone makes this a mistake The Sentinel sug-gests the governor boil the plan down to only three points that the voters can get their heads around In this spirit the Sentinel recommends the following three points the details of which could include his 56 points for the wonks out there

1) Lower Tax Rates with no loop holes - lower than other industrialized nations

2) Less Regulation with fewer regulatory agencies and real oversight

3) A Balanced Budget with a plan for a steady reduction of

4) the national debt

Ann Romney claims that Mitt is also considering a woman for the VP slot If this is true I would suggest Condoleezza Rice but there are several other good choices as well However I doubt Ann will get her way on this as any woman nominated in this critical year will be seen as a dis-traction The leftist media will make sure of it

Putting Us All On The Dole

One in seven of all Americans is now on food stamps but thatrsquos not enough for the bureaucrats at the Department of Agriculture

Theyrsquore determined to increase that number and to do that they must eliminate the ldquomountain priderdquo of certain Americans who value personal responsibility and independence above all else and get them on the government dole

They arrived on the continent desperately poor as described by the historian Vernon Louis Parrington ldquoSo armed with axes their seed potatoes and the newly invented rifle they plunged into the back-woods to become our great pioneering race Scattered thinly through a long frontier they constituted the outposts and buffer settlements of civilization A vigorous breed hardy assertive individualistic thrifty trained in the democracy of the Scottish kirk they were the material out of which Jacksonian democracy was to be fashioned the creators of that western type which in politics and industry became ultimately the American typerdquo

Just the sort of material you might say to frustrate a community organizer with illusions of hau-teur Nevertheless community organizers donrsquot quit easily The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP of the Agriculture Department gave ldquoa Gold Awardrdquo recently to the local social workers in tiny Jefferson NC between Husk and Deep Gap and not far from the Tennessee bor-der for bravely confronting ldquomountain priderdquo and increasing food-stamp participation in Ashe County by 10 percent

ldquoHearing from the outreach worker that benefits could be used to purchase seeds and plants for their gardens turned out to be a very important strategy in counteracting what they described as lsquomountain pridersquo and appealed to those who wished not to rely on othersrdquo SNAP explains ldquoEventually many accepted assistance from the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program and others in some cases doubling a house-holdrsquos net income In 1 year SNAP participation increased over 10 percentrdquo Therersquos enough alpha-bet soup there to feed a medium-sized multitude

The group has an ambitious agenda which should appeal to constitutionalists of any political stripe At this point John is trying to staff the organization They are looking for ldquoConstitutional Monitorsrdquo people who are willing to go to Town council and PTA meetings commissionerrsquos courts and all institutions of governance and report any activity which is outside constitutional limitations They need regional and state coordinators as well This is a ground floor opportunity

Handicapping the 2012 election

Most political predictions are made by biased pollsters pundits or prognosticators who are either rooting for Republicans or Democrats I am neither I am a former Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee and a well-known Vegas odds maker with one of the most accurate records of predicting political races Neither Obama nor Romney are my horses in the race I believe both Republicans and Democrats have destroyed the US economy and brought us to the edge of economic disaster My vote will go to Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson in November whom I believe has the most fiscally conservative track record of any Governor in modern US political history Without the bold spending cuts of a Gary Johnson or Ron Paul I donrsquot believe itrsquos possible to turnaround America But as an odds maker with a pretty remarkable track record of picking political races I play no favorites I simply use common sense to call them as I see them Back in late December I released my New Years Predictions I predicted back then- before a single GOP primary had been held with Romney trailing for months to almost every GOP competitor from Rick Perry to Herman Cain to Newt- that Romney would easily rout his competition to win the GOP nomination by a landslide I also predicted that the Presidential race between Obama and Romney would be very close until election day But that on election day Romney would win by a landslide similar to Reagan-Carter in 1980 Understanding history today I am even more convinced of a resounding Romney victory 32 years ago at this moment in time Reagan was losing by 9 points to Carter Romney is right now running even in polls So why do most pollsters give Obama the edge First most pollsters are missing one ingredient- common sense Here is my gut instinct Not one American who voted for McCain 4 years ago will switch to Obama Not one in all the land But many millions of people who voted for an unknown Obama 4 years ago are angry disillusioned turned off or scared about the future Voters know Obama now- and that is a bad harbinger Now to an analysis of the voting blocks that matter in US politics Black voters Obama has nowhere to go but down among this group His endorsement of gay marriage has alienated many black church-going Christians He may get 88 of their vote instead of the 96 he got in 2008 This is not good news for Obama Hispanic voters Obama has nowhere to go but down among this group If Romney picks Rubio as his VP running-mate the GOP may pick up an extra 10 to 15 of Hispanic voters (plus lock down Florida ) This is not good news for Obama Jewish voters Obama has been weak in his support of Israel Many Jewish voters and big donors are angry and disappointed I predict Obamas Jewish support drops from 78 in 2008 to the low 60rsquos This is not good news for Obama Youth voters Obamarsquos biggest and most enthusiastic believers from 4 years ago have graduated into a job market from hell Young people are disillusioned frightened and broke- a bad combination The enthusiasm is long gone Turnout will be much lower among young voters as will

actual voting percentages This not good news for Obama

Catholic voters Obama won a majority of Catholics in 2008 That wonrsquot happen again Out of desperation to please women Obama went to war with the Catholic Church over contraception Now he is being sued by the Catholic Church Majority lost This is not good news for Obama Small Business owners Because I ran for Vice President last time around and Im a small businessman myself I know literally thousands of small business owners At least 40 of them in my circle of friends fans and supporters voted for Obama 4 years ago to ldquogive someone different a chancerdquo I warned them that he would pursue a war on capitalism and demonize anyone who owned a businessthat hersquod support unions over the private sector in a big waythat hed overwhelm the economy with spending and debt My friends didnrsquot listen Four years later I cant find one person in my circle of small business owner friends voting for Obama Not one This is not good news for Obama Blue collar working class whites Do I need to say a thing White working class voters are about as happy with Obama as Boston Red Sox fans feel about the New York Yankees This is not good news for Obama Suburban moms The issue isnrsquot contraceptionhellipitrsquos having a job to pay for contraception Obamarsquos economy frightens these moms They are worried about putting food on the table They fear for their childrenrsquos future This is not good news for Obama Military Veterans McCain won this group by 10 points Romney is winning by 24 points The more our military vets got to see of Obama the more they disliked him This is not good news for Obama Add it up Is there one major group where Obama has gained since 2008 Will anyone in America wake up on election day saying ldquoI didnrsquot vote for Obama 4 years ago But hersquos done such a fantastic job I canrsquot wait to vote for him todayrdquo Does anyone feel that a vote for Obama makes their job more secure Right Forget the polls My gut instincts as a Vegas odds maker and common sense small businessman tell me this will be a historic landslide and a world-class repudiation of Obamarsquos radical and risky socialist agenda Its Reagan-Carter all over again

But Irsquoll give Obama credit for one thing--he is living proof that familiarity breeds contempt

I am encouraged that Governor Perry and a growing list of Governors are taking a firm

stand against Washingtons health care intrusion In America we still have a constitutional

system of dual sovereignty and that means the national government cant force the states to

comply with its every whim

The health care law tries to bully states into setting up health care exchanges Texas should

refuse Washington says it will set up an exchange for us if we dont but we know from the

experience of other states that DC will have control of any exchange set up under the

health care law - whether we set it up or they do So there is really no advantage to Texas

establishing a health care exchange And if enough states refuse to set up exchanges the

federal government could have a very difficult time doing it on its own We should not help

them implement this law which we so strongly oppose

The law also attempts to make us dramatically expand the Medicaid program Thankfully

even the Supreme Courts ruling (flawed as it was) acknowledged that the national govern-

ment cannot compel the states to expand their Medicaid rolls Medicaid is a horribly broken

system Patients dont want to be in it fewer and fewer doctors will accept it and the costs

are increasing astronomically (nationwide approaching $500 billion annually) Forcing mil-

lions more Texans into this system would be wrong

By boldly saying no to the exchanges and no to expanded Medicaid Texas and other states

can force Washington to consider real health care reform There are free market solutions

that will bring down the cost of health care and expand access And as for Medicaid the na-

tional government should give the states their Medicaid funding in the form of block grants

so that each state can come up with the best solution for its unique population We did this

in the 1990s with welfare reform and the results exceeded everyones expectations better

outcomes for folks receiving benefits and dramatically lower costs for the taxpayers

I am optimistic that November will give us a new President and a new Congress that will

repeal this misnamed Affordable Care Act But we dont have to wait until then to decide

what Texas should do

Texans have always stood for liberty and for personal responsibility and once again we are

called on to lead the way By drawing this line we can help to reestablish limited constitu-

tional government and move our country toward a true reform for our health care system

Mark Zaid a national security lawyer in Washington DC said he had confirmed that Kahlili was a longtime operative of a US intelligence agency adding He has insights on Iran most people in the US intelligence community dont have For covert operatives clearance agreements with the CIA often prohibit public acknowledg-ment of the agreement itself or of the CIA A CIA spokesman Todd D Ebitz said the agency had no comment on Kahlili Brian Weidner program coordinator for Iran instruction at the Joint Counterintelligence Training Academy confirmed that Kahlili is a paid lecturer for the Pentagon agency Other instructors are videotaped Kahlili says but his lectures are audio-only to protect his identity Kahlili says he lived a double life until the mid-1990s passing along secrets to the CIA and re-cruiting Revolutionary Guards for the agency In a sense he resumed his double identity after publishing his 2010 memoir he was now a former covert agent who had thrust himself into the public eye He rarely leaves home mdash my bunker he jokes mdash and shuns social situations For years his mother in Iran berated him for working for a regime she despised she died never knowing about his CIA spy work he says His children know nothing of his background His Iranian wife was unaware of his spying for years and was hurt angry and terrified when he finally told her It took a long time for that to heal and for her to understand why I did it Kahlili says Though his wife is pleased that he has publicized Irans human rights abuses he says she has begged him to go back into hiding He is pained by regrets I put my family in danger without giving it much thought he says They didnt know what Id done but they were in as much danger as I was The spy story Kahlili tells in his book and in several interviews with The Times features coded messages disinformation clandestine meetings and international intrigue After graduating from USC Kahlili returned to Iran just before the 1979 revolution toppled the Shah A childhood friend recruited him into the Revolutionary Guard where he gained an in-siders access to the new Islamic government mdash and where he was to turn against the regime The Guard executed teenage girls for associating with opposition groups but first raped them to deny them the heavenly paradise guaranteed to virgins One of Kahlilis best friends and the mans two siblings were tortured and executed Eventually he persuaded his superiors to let him fly to Los Angeles telling them that his aunt there was ill He looked up the FBI in the phone book and persuaded two agents to meet with him They sent him to a CIA handler in London He passed polygraph exams and returned to Iran as Wally a secret agent who communicated via coded letters and radio messages Kahlili says Iranian terrorist cells inside the US have weapons explosives money and safe houses they use contacts with Mexican and Latin American drug cartels to smuggle explosives and weapons into the US They have very detailed information about sensitive sites such as bridges railroads airports military bases power plants nuclear sites water plants railway stations he says

A Nation of Laws No More Editorial by Adrian Murray Texas Insider Report Austin Texas June 22 2012 For at least three times in his presidency Obama has taken the posi-tion that if he doesnrsquot agree with existing laws he can just ignore themhellipWhat is especially con-cerning about this latest development from this rogue administration is the specter of Obamarsquos dislike ofmdashif not utter disdain formdashthe rule of lawhellip

If one does not agree with a particular law there are proper remedies in our system of govern-ment to change a law to onersquos likingmdashor at least there was

The 1st time the President didnrsquot agree with existing laws and simply ignored them was the Phila-delphia voter intimidation case in which thugs from the New Black Panthers wielded clubs at a voting location tin November 2008 The Obama Justice Department decided that was perfectly okay and dropped any charges

The 2nd instance was the administrationrsquos unilateral decision not to enforce certain provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act If yoursquore of the opinion that the federal government has no business determining which consenting adults can and cannot get married (which it doesnrsquot) the proper remedy is to petition a change in the law Obama simply chose to ignore it

The 3rd instance once again demonstrates Obamarsquos total disdain for existing law

The immigration statures that are in the United States Code are the law of the land Obama simply has no authority to ignore existing law or create his own And yet he has done just that [and now federal agents will ignore an Arizona Immigration law upheld by the Supreme Court]

If the President of the United States can by his own volition pick and choose which laws he will observe and which he will not is he not then practicing dictatorial powers Our system of govern-ment was intended to restrain such an abuse of power not protect it

One would think that if nothing else this would awaken the gutless wonders in leadership on the right Unfortunately so far the silence has been deafening

Rule by decree is the most undemocratic of governmental systems We do not elect our presi-dents to create our laws There is no Constitutional basis for a president to do so We elect our presidents to uphold the law and protect the Constitution

The Amateur by Edward Klein

As Texas Goeshellip by Gail Collins

Both these books ndash As Texas Goeshellip and The Ama-

teur ndash were written by New Yorkers Edward Klein is

a former editor of the New York Times Magazine Gail

Collins is a long-time New York Times columnist

The dot-dot-dot in Ms Collinsrsquos title implies ldquoso goes the nationrdquo We get it Her subtitle is

ldquoHow the Lone Star State Hijacked the American Agendardquo in case anybody failed to get it

from the dot-dots

We rough Texans know already (or at least suspect) what some sophisticated and rather

snooty New Yorkers think of us donrsquot we Still Collinsrsquos book is an interesting read Talk

show host Mark Davis calls it a ldquogreat mental exerciserdquo and of course Scots poet Robert

Burns called it a great gift ldquoto see ourselves as others see usrdquo

Collins has a theory about ldquoempty placesrdquo versus ldquocrowded placesrdquo that makes some pretty

fair assumptions She has two whole chapters about education Three if you count her

chapter on ldquoThe Textbook Warsrdquo And four if you count a chapter on sex ed Our State

Rep Bryan Hughes is quoted briefly (p123) Therersquos a lot about Phil Gramm and the fi-

nancial mess wersquore in today And apparently we Texans have a bad attitude about global

warming As Texas Goeshellip concludes with a look at our likely future ndash a ldquogreat mental

exerciserdquo indeed

Less mentally challenging perhaps but also seriously enlightening is the Klein book The

Amateur That title comes from a Bill Clinton quote While trying (vainly) to persuade

Hillary to challenge Obama for the presidential nomination this year Bill the ldquopolitician

par excellencerdquo delivered his judgment that ldquoBarack Obama is an amateurrdquo

From early days in Chicago when Jesse Jackson helped him polish those famous oratorical

skills to present-day influential Obama insiders David Axelrod Valerie Jarrett Samantha

Power et al Klein lays out a story that even semi-serious Obama-watchers may not fully

know He interviewed close to 200 people for this book

As Texas Goeshellip by Gail Collins

Both these books ndash As Texas Goeshellip and The Ama-

teur ndash were written by New Yorkers Edward Klein is

a former editor of the New York Times Magazine Gail

Collins is a long-time New York Times columnist

The dot-dot-dot in Ms Collinsrsquos title implies ldquoso goes the nationrdquo We get it Her subtitle is

ldquoHow the Lone Star State Hijacked the American Agendardquo in case anybody failed to get it

from the dot-dots

We rough Texans know already (or at least suspect) what some sophisticated and rather

snooty New Yorkers think of us donrsquot we Still Collinsrsquos book is an interesting read Talk

show host Mark Davis calls it a ldquogreat mental exerciserdquo and of course Scots poet Robert

Burns called it a great gift ldquoto see ourselves as others see usrdquo

Collins has a theory about ldquoempty placesrdquo versus ldquocrowded placesrdquo that makes some pretty

fair assumptions She has two whole chapters about education Three if you count her

chapter on ldquoThe Textbook Warsrdquo And four if you count a chapter on sex ed Our State

Rep Bryan Hughes is quoted briefly (p123) Therersquos a lot about Phil Gramm and the fi-

nancial mess wersquore in today And apparently we Texans have a bad attitude about global

warming As Texas Goeshellip concludes with a look at our likely future ndash a ldquogreat mental

exerciserdquo indeed

Less mentally challenging perhaps but also seriously enlightening is the Klein book The

Amateur That title comes from a Bill Clinton quote While trying (vainly) to persuade

Hillary to challenge Obama for the presidential nomination this year Bill the ldquopolitician

par excellencerdquo delivered his judgment that ldquoBarack Obama is an amateurrdquo

From early days in Chicago when Jesse Jackson helped him polish those famous oratorical

skills to present-day influential Obama insiders David Axelrod Valerie Jarrett Samantha

Power et al Klein lays out a story that even semi-serious Obama-watchers may not fully

know He interviewed close to 200 people for this book
