Term 2 -- Week 2
Dear Parents and Caregivers, I would first like to welcome Mr Jay Mulherin to our staff who was successful in the merit selection process at the end of last term. Mr Mulherin joins us with great experience. His most recent posting was at Walgett Secondary College. He is a trained English teacher and will also be working in the areas of History and Geography. This week we had many great extra-curricular activities happening including the Science and Engineering Camp in Cobar, where students in secondary had the opportunity to be involved in various challenges hosted by Newcastle University. We also would like to thank Nicole O’Neill from Landcare who has worked on Wednesday with Mr Dean and students to beautify our newly cleaned up area behind the canteen. I am very excited as this is the start of a school wide project at improving our grounds and utilising student’s expertise to assist with this. I wish all of our competitors’ lots of luck at the Lower Lachlan PSSA Cross Country today in Ungarie. Run hard and do your best representing our school. Students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be completing NAPLAN tests next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Your child should’ve received information about this on Tuesday. I wish all the best to the students next week and encourage them to try their best as that is all we expect of them. Next week I will be heading to Darwin on leave to complete my learning about Public Sector Management as I had postponed this last term. I am continuing to work on a project this semester that is about building positivity across the school and the wider community. I look forward to sharing my report in August with you all. Mrs O’Neill will be acting Principal for the duration while I am on leave.
Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to hearing about all the great learning experiences while I am on leave.
Yours in Education, Mr Allan Johnston Principal

Library - craft day Mrs Sanson finished reading "The Twenty-Seventh Annual African Hippopotamus Race" by Morris Lurie to Year 3. This funny, exciting story takes you behind the scenes as eight-year-old Edward the hippo trains for the greatest swimming marathon of all! Year 3 painted swimmers onto Edward so he can swim in his race!
Landcare Grant Mr Dean and Year 5/6 are cleaning up the area behind the canteen to make a vegetable garden as part of the Landcare grant of $1700 that was awarded to the school. Mrs O’Neill, the local Landcare co-ordinator, was here to oversee the hard work that the students and Mr Dean were doing. Potting mix, planks for garden beds, gardening equipment were purchased with the grant. Thank you to Landcare and Mrs O’Neill for their support.

Guitar lessons - Recess and Lunch Our school was privileged last week in receiving 14 acoustic guitars from the Musica Viva organisation. Students began their lessons with Mr Fitzgerald this week. Thank you to the Musica Viva In School program that inspire, educate and enrich the lives of students and teachers across Australia.
Science and Engineering Challenge Our Year 9/10 students travelled to Cobar to participate in the 2 day challenge. The Science and Engineering Challenge is a non-profit, STEM outreach program run throughout schools. The goal of the program is to challenge student’s perception of science and engineering and experience aspects of those fields that they normally would not encounter in a school environment.
