A meaningful purpose

Our daily work may be centered around materials or software

and their application for medical therapy or training. But the

real purpose of all we do is to make a significant contribution

to improved survival: to helping save lives.

Pride in our history

Our founder, Åsmund S. Lærdal, gave rise to a company culture

based on his rare ability to understand both the patient’s and

the caregiver’s needs.

He was convinced that lasting success in business

can only be created on the basis of:

- an ability to listen

- endless curiosity

- practical problem solving

- respect for the customer

- hard work and a passion for continuous improvement

We believe his conviction is equally valid today.

A clear vision

We believe we can contribute to attaining this vision by

combining current and future abilities of our own, by remaining

loyal to our culture, and by working closely and reliably with

the emergency care community.

Our vision is

that no-one should die or be disabled unnecessarily during

birth or from sudden illness or trauma.

Our mission is Helping Save Lives.

A sound company culture

Adopting the Laerdal values in our daily work will lead to:

higher job motivation

improved products and services

increasingly satisfied customers

enhanced trust in the Laerdal brand

a growth in sales

a better economic basis for further development

A willingness to learn

We believe we add value when we:

- demonstrate a willingness and desire

to learn from our customers

- address real needs

- view opportunities in a long term perspective

- collaborate with opinion leaders and product users

A passion for continuous improvement

Being proud of our history should not make us complacent.

We need to improve continuously in order to remain

a respected partner in our field.

We will improve if we all:

- share the challenge of our mission of helping save lives

- work together to realize agreed objectives

- build trust daily through mutual respect and honesty

- find opportunities and thrive on challenges

- take and give responsibility

- seek and share relevant information

- set good examples daily

A commitment to sustainable development

Laerdal impacts a number of local communities by contributing

to their economic and social development; hence we have

a responsibility to manage our business in a socially and

environmentally sound manner.

In this respect we seek to:

- develop an effective and global organization with high

ethical standards

- share our values and ethical standards with our suppliers

- minimize our environmental impact through

sound business decisions

A dedication to help improve global health

The majority of deaths that may be prevented by modern

lifesaving techniques take place in the developing countries,

especially those of the mother and the baby during birth.

We wish to provide effective, culturally adapted, and affordable

product solutions to meet the needs in low resource settings

as well as in developed countries.

Mira (20) and Shifa survived a severe

birth complication thanks to the presence

of a well-trained birth attendant.

Living daily by the values set out in this presentation should help us to fulfill our mission

In November 1990, both Louise Owen (26 weeks pregnant)

and her baby survived, after Louise was successfully

resuscitated, thanks to CPR and defibrillation.
