Lacking a Hunter, 23 December 2011, the Griot Poet

Ive read of the rise of Black Atheists on BET.com as if this were an achievement. And

to be sure, theres a lot of loot if you can write a smart tome: ask evangelical atheists

Richard Dawkins,Madalyn Murray O'Hair, Carl Sagan and Christopher Hitchens. Youcan even make a documentary and a made up word: Religulous.

To be sure: Christianity has been hijacked by operatives that have learned the whoopcall-and-response deliveryhaving a form of godliness and denying the power thereof

(from such turn away), political rallies have become de facto Sermons on the Mount

minus Jesus; instead the preaching delivered by some personalities so ostentatious,

incendiary and bombastic, its a wonder there is room enough for cameras and

reporters! Evidences contrary to any talking point dogma have been derisively chided as

part of the fact-based community (c/o Karl Rove) as if we can rub a Genie bottle and

get Barbara Eden to blink global warming away in a naval covering bikini!

America for the first time went to a black church in Jeremiah Wright James Cone

black liberation theology disciple post Martin Luther King, and the possibility dawned ona lot of evangelicals whose great-great-great grandparents either actively participated or

tacitly looked the other way at the brutality of slavery and Jim Crow that we might have

something else to say on Sunday morning!

America at least, subprime loan shark lending American banks for the first time

discovered that prosperity ministries (prosper mentioned in the Bible 17 times;

prosperity 48) might develop on a soil of American Exceptionalism that denied access to

education, decent living conditions and the ability to accumulate wealth with no less

than a Supreme Court decision on Dred Scott. And some are trying to take us back to

1953: before the ruling of separate but equal.

America for the first time went to a black funeral with Michael Jacksons and Al

Sharpton preaching him home. Whys it taking so long? Because when auntie and

them, mama and them and the baby gets on the mike, magic happens and takes over.

The emotions swirl and you now have what is the closest approximation to an earthly

rapture. It happens in black churches whether the celebrant is famous or not.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats are any more spiritual than the individuals that

claim to practice (or, not practice) their faith, as the Constitution has no provision for the

establishment of a national religion, despite the desperate revisionists claims to thecontrary. Muslims, Hebrews and Christians are considered people of the book.

Im obviously frustrated that my faith has been pimped, so its understandable that some

would look at this at the right time to end it.

I say they lack a hunter.

It was the hunter that pursued us on the Underground Railroad. It was the hunter that

birthed the coded one-hundreds such as Swing Low, Sweet Chariot that if you listen

to the lyrics, it gave you explicit directions on when Harriet Tubman was coming and

what to do when she got there! (Better, else she would have shot you!)

The hunter claimed lives by the whip, gun and noose, orphaned babies, split familiesand dumped bodies in the Atlantic during the Middle Passage.

The hunter inspired a Civil Rights movement before we got a law on that or our voting

rights.

The hunter inspired thousands of young people of all ages, and quite frankly all colors,

to join a movement, risk jail and worse. The hunter filled one quarter of a million on the

Washington Mall on August 23, 1963 and one million on October 16, 1995.

The hunter prowls, seeking whom hed steal, kill and destroy, and it prowls urban

ghettos several generations settled, with laws on first puff of weed locks up fatherless

boys and girls 5-to-10 and suburban white kids go to therapy, followed by Kaplan SAT

prep. Dont worry: your consolation prize is listening to rap music denigrate our women,

wearing sagging britches, grills and tattoos that make you look the part of the prison-

industrial-complex youll eventually participate in.

The hunter sends emails of watermelons on the White House lawn, dressing the

President and First Lady as Pimp and Prostitute in Chief, to last night on FOX news,

pundit Bozell stating, "How long do you think Sean Hannitys show would last if four

times in one sentence, he made a comment about, say, the President of the United

States, and said that he looked like a skinny, ghetto crackhead? Which, by the way, you

might want to say that Barack Obama doesand someone is later bound to say with a

straight face on the same channel the party is reaching out to the black voter? Herman

Cain was their best bet, and the serial harasser/philanderer quoting the poetry of

Pokemon said we were brainwashed.

The hunter finally made its way to suburbia, and its victims Occupied Wall Street with

the realization whether they believed in a personal God or not that the system, like

the war on drugs suddenly became unfair when it knocked on the door of their well -to-

do manicured lawns, their parents proudly displayed yard-of-the-month signs in front.

Their guaranteed jobs at uncle so-an-so (s) law/public relations/engineering firm had

been outsourced before they could begin to pay their mounting education loans. Getting

a bath is the easy part

Karl Marx the capitalist that created communism (that, ahem: didnt work just as the

Soviet Union), said religion is the opiate of the people, the kind of pompous, boorish

platitude a one-percent member utters knowing full well 9-1-1 and pizza delivery works

on his street in his exclusive gated community enclave. He can wait you out.

So yeah: I sound radical. Jesus was radical: tables turned over, kicking thieves out of

the temple, women prominent in His ministry, whether the reader believes He was

divine or not (existed or not); hope is desired, whether you believe one political avatar oranother can deliver it every 4 years. Im radical enough to say if God didnt exist: black

folks, whose language and culture were stolen along with their broken, battered, hung

and raped bodies would have to invent Him!

You better let me keep praying. I see miracles every day. I have a reason for getting

knocked down and getting back up over and over again. I have a reason to meditate

versus start an LA riot were all one cute pundit quip, one racist email, one Amadou

Diallo 19-landing-out-of-41-shot-nightmare from another one.

You that dont believe in a personal God better have another solution for justice in aworld lacking of one. My pearly gates: or reparations! Hows that defying Occupy Wall

Street thing working? Your pockets arent that deep.

The world and black folks sadly, have no lack ofa hunter!
