Dot density maps allow the mapuser to see the extent of thepopulation boundaries and view thephysical geography underneath thepopulation distribution. Anotheradvantage of the dot density map isthat they show a smooth transitionover the data area, wheregraduated symbols display abruptchanges in the distribution making itharder for the map user to view thegeography underneath thedistribution.Disadvantages to the dot densitymap include the fact that dots areplaced randomly so areas with nopopulation can be depicted ashaving people reside there, wheregraduated symbols place thesymbol in the middle in the middleof the area where the data is from.Dot density maps can also show anincorrect visualization of the data ifthe wrong dot size is choosen
