LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY : Monday, 24 th October School recommences on Tuesday, 25 th October at 8.55am. Newsletter No 33 Phone 03 547 7399 Cellphone 021 629 635 20 October 2016 Email: office@ naylandprimary.school.nz Kia Ora Family and Whanau I was incredibly proud of our Kapa Haka Group who performed at Red Stage 1 as part of the Nelson Arts Festival on Tuesday. Disappointingly I was unable to be at the performance, but I have viewed some videos of this and the students were stunning! Their voices, their appearance and their on-stage behaviour have made me very proud to be a part of Nayland Primary. A special THANKS to Whaia Tamika, Whaia Belinda and all parents who supported this performance. Our grateful thanks also to those parents and whanau who took time off work to see this performance. It was great to have such a supportive crowd! At the end of last term we had the Nayland Primary Variety Show in the Nayland College Hall. We have received some wonderful feedback about our show and it was very cool to read some Letters to the Editor in the Nelson Mail about this event. The Fundraising And Community Team raised $763.10 from the raffle ticket sales and $2564 was received through show ticket sales. On behalf of the Fundraising Team I am passing on a special thank you to everyone who generously donated goods for the raffle. Your support is very much appreciated! This is the time of the year when teachers start planning classes for next year. I encourage parents/caregivers to share with me, in writing, (email is fine) before the end of October, any information which you think will help us in planning 2017 classes. This does not mean requesting a teacher for your child; but providing information to help us to make these decisions. Please understand that we take the organising of classes very seriously and if your information is late, it will not be able to be used in our decision making process. Please send emails to [email protected] I hope that you have set aside Monday, 31st October to come along to school to join in the Family Fun Night organised by the Fundraising And Community Team. Bring along your tea and join in the fun and games together! Your child should have brought home a notice on green paper about this on Monday!

Did You Know?

Research has found that it is the number of times each day we consume sugary drinks or eat

foods high in sugar that increases the rate of decay in our teeth. Foods and drinks which

contain sugar increase the production of acid in our mouth which attacks and rots our teeth. It

is therefore helpful for children to learn which are ‘anytime’ foods and drinks. Cheese, raw

vegetables, nuts, unsweetened popcorn, milk and water are just some of the ‘tooth-friendly’

options. REGULAR UPDATES FROM THE NELSON MARLBOROUGH COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTH SERVICE

Calling all old Mobile Phones to help Sustainable Coastlines look after NZ’s coastlines and waterways. After $2.5 million donated to the Starship Foundation from the sale of unwanted old mobile phones it is time for a new multi award winning NZ charity - Sustainable Coastline to benefit from this scheme.

It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have. Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and also the environment benefits by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.

KAN TABS FOR KIDNEY KIDS (AND SCREW TOPS FROM WINE BOTTLES) Your contribution DOES make a difference. Collect tabs and tops from relatives, friends and neighbours. “Each time a tab is torn from a can and placed in a pocket or a bag, a conscious thought is made to support a sick child.” The Kan Tab is A Symbol for Hope. It is estimated that one tab is worth one second of support for a child waiting for a better chance of life through dialysis or a kidney transplant. Keep the Kan Tabs and screw tops separate and take them to Nayland Primary School office.
