PrefaceThis workbook was designed by members of the AALAS Educational Re-sources Committee (ERC) to assist those who are learning about laboratory animal science and the regulations and guidelines that help provide for the humane care and use of laboratory animals. This workbook can help technicians prepare for the AALAS technician certification examinations and managers prepare for the Animal Resources examination. It may also be helpful when studying for other examinations related to the laboratory animal science field.
Each section of this workbook summarizes relevant laws, regulations, policies, or guidelines. These summaries incorporate language from the original text. However, this workbook is not a substitute for reading and understanding the original text of these mandates, nor are the exercises necessarily repre-sentative of the types of questions on the AALAS technician certification or CMAR examinations. Please consult the AALAS Technician Certification Handbook or CMAR Handbook for complete information on preparing for one of the AALAS certification exams.
Corrections (errata) and updates for this workbook and all AALAS educa-tional materials can be reported and viewed online on the AALAS website at http://www.aalas.org/bookstore/errata.aspx. When you begin using an AALAS manual or workbook, check the Updates and Errata page for the most up-to-date information.
