Practice - ATG: Create a Responsibility (Optional)

Overview

In this practice, you will create a Responsibility for you Assistant System Administrator.

Assumptions

• For this lab only, you will log in as Operations/Welcome.

• You must have access to an Oracle Application Vision database or comparable training or test instance at your site on which to complete this practice.

Tasks

Create a Responsibility

1. Enter the Responsibility information.

2. What is the table name where the Responsibility resides?

3. What is the MENU_ID?

4. What is the REQUEST_GROUP_ID?

5. What is the RESPONSIBILITY_ID?

Create a Responsibility

A responsibility is the primary method of security in Oracle applications. A responsibility

determines which menu you see, what Oracle Id you are connected to the database as (through thedata group), and the list of reports and programs that appears in the Run Reports (Standard Request

Submission) screen (through the request group).

Responsibility = System Administrator

1. Navigate to the Define Responsibility window

• (N) Security -> Responsibility -> Define

2. In the Responsibilities screen, enter:

− Responsibility Name: XX Sys Admin Assistant

− Application: System Administration <List>

− Responsibility Key: XXASST

− Description: XX Assistant System Administrator

3. Enter under Datagroup:

− Name: Standard <List>

− Application: System Administration <List>

4. Enter Menu: XX Sys Admin Assistant <List>

5. Enter under Request Group:

− Name XX Sys Admin Asst Requests <List>

− Application System Administration <List>

6. (I) Save.

7. Determine the name of the table into which you are inserting the new responsibility.

• Be sure that your cursor is in the top of the form.

• (M) Help > Record History.

8. Determine the MENU_ID of the menu referenced in this responsibility. _________________

• (M) Help > Diagnostics > Examine.

9. Where have you seen this value before? ___________________

The fields Web Host Name and Web Agent Name are used when the responsibility isaccessible only through self-service web applications.

At the bottom of this screen, there is a tab for Menu Exclusions. You could use this to

exclude some of the submenus or functions from displaying. This allows you to use the same

menu for multiple responsibilities.

The other tabs in the bottom of this screen, called Excluded Items, and Securing Attributes,

are used when you are creating a responsibility for Oracle Self-Service Web Applications(OSSWA). For example, if you wanted to create a responsibility which a customer would use

for the Internet Receivables product (through which a customer can go to a web page and see

how much money they owe you on invoices you have sent them), you would want to be ableto secure the view of the data so that any customer contact could only see data for their

company. In the “Securing Attributes” section of this screen, you could identify that the

CUSTOMER_ID is the value you use to secure data, and then when you create a user for thecustomer and add this responsibility, you would provide a value for the CUSTOMER_ID.
